I use the term "act" meaning both his act on stage and the one he uses in his interviews and his whole round general persona since the early 2000s when he become distinguished from Liam to the British public as the more intelligent, witty "brains" behind it all sort of image.
Since the Oasis split, it's all on the surface gone Noel's way. If you take the opinion of the most casual of casual fans then Beady Eye have nothing worth listening to and Noel Gallagher has developed mature new sounds. Noel has the album sales figures, numerous festival appearances and appears on chat shows with a great reception.
All that is really without analysing it further. The first HFB album was a sales success, that is undeniable. But the formula and marketing sold that album. He did everything right that Beady Eye did wrong. He put his name out there, he sold the album with a song on a commercial and it worked. Well done Noel. But looking back on it, this forum seems to now see it as the 6/7 out of 10 mediocre effort that gave Noel a decent start rather than the rave reviews it got initially. This formula was pretty much repeated on the new album but without the commercial song and the sales reacted accordingly. All be it we got some "new" territory for Noel with the recent Gallagher discovery of Brass sections.
The question is studio wise, are we happy with this? 2-3 year gaps of 10/11 songs. Albums that by Noel's own admission feature "throwaways". I just don't think it's good enough. His selections of songs are always with this "success" in mind. Never the fans, never the people who really put him where he is. Same goes for his setlists. A terribly tiresome act now after this many tours. But to Noel, he still sees sales, he still sees fans in front of him, so he doesnt care. He might even try and get Sardy back now CY didnt quite get the same amount of sales as HFB!
I know people will say if it aint broke dont fix it but i really do not think it will be long until the cracks really start to appear. He sort of has this untouchable reputation where he can say what he likes and he can get away with it. But during this second album cycle i've noticed even he appears to hate the fact he is under more scutiny than ever now Liam is off the scene completely. The comments from the public have become a bit less haha witty old Noel and more slagging off his arrogant outlook.
To me, the general public, and critics could not wait to bring Oasis down a peg or two. They wanted to do it with WTSMG, but because that was so undeniably brilliant they had to put it off. They then got both barrels as the albums declined, but Noel has since made sure he's distanced himself from that and almost looks as if he wants the solo career to be a juxtaposition to the late Oasis and almost blame the rest of the band for that poorer output. These recent comments about "doing it for the money" might just come back to bite him more than even he realises.

his setlist has been boring for quite a time now. i am also not very impressed by how he performs certain songs. dlbia, fucking lame. and he's doing it over and over again. same goes for champagne supernova. lame. in general he should get rid of capoing the shit out of his songs to lame them down like he does. i'm wondering if he is actually still able to play anything else than a variation of a G-Cadd9-Em7-Dsus2 chord progression. cos due to his capo he's been using, that's all he plays, the lazy fuck. just in different frets.
i still have hope though. wtsrts is up in my all time top 3. brilliant, brilliant song!

I dunno, I still get excited in the build up to new material, enjoy his interviews hugely and try to watch gigs when they are on. I think his band is a bit pants though and wish he'd freshen things up, but I really enjoyed Chasing Yesterday and it sounds like he is taking a different approach to the new record. He needs to get Gem on board, really, then I'd be a bit happier.

I really don't know what you're talking about - Noel is more liked and respected by the music fan community / general public than probably at any other time since 1996. He's making the best music he's made since 1997. His voice is getting better and better, and so are his albums. His debut is a solid 7.5/10 (add another point with better production), and was the perfect start to a solo career - setting the score back after Oasis' later hit and miss efforts with a solid collection of good-to-great songs. Chasing Yesterday is even better, with some totally fresh sounds and influences. If anything, the Noel Gallagher "act" is more exciting than its been in 20 years.

I enjoy the records but live is boring now. I like how Noel has matured with his songwriting. Songs like TDOYAM, The Right Stuff, TBOTMI and others are actually quite brilliant. His interviews are naff and boring and his football interests are the same.

No. I completely agree with everything The Escapist just said. There is one thing that bores me though, and that is his setlist. It doesn't get changed enough, but that's been discussed to death, and a lot of bands don't do that (and a lot do). Edit: no there are actually two things that annoy me. Besides the setlist, his choice of words sometimes grates me. Best example is the Esquire interview. You all know what I mean.

Creatively Noel's solo records are not doing it for me. Musically there is also nothing new to me since Be Here Now ( that was actually something interesting) Both albums are filled wit typical ballads , bar Lock All The Doors and maybe the Mexican.

His setlist is pretty boring and i'm not a fan of his new album at all. The right stuff is one of the greatest songs he's ever released..without a doubt but aside from that its a boring album imo.
He's doing well for himself and his albums are doing well at least, which isn't easy after leaving such a big band.
IMO BE shits on CY but as mentioned earlier, Noel's albums had much better marketing. BE was wrong from start to finish..bad choices led to poor sales unfortunately. The album has some really good songs, especially Flick of the finger, Soon come tomorrow, Back after the break (should have been on the album), Iz rite and Start anew.
I think Noel's 3rd album will also perform well but he needs Liam if we wants to earn 10x the amount of money and sell out huge stadiums.

I still love Noel's studio work. To me it's just as interesting as anything he did in Oasis and I'll eagerly welcome any b-side or remix he releases.
Not too fussed about his interviews - they're usually fun to read but I won't usually buy a magazine anymore just because it has a Noel interview in it.
His concerts are good - trouble is he does the same concert every night for the entire tour. Once they've been to one - or heard one online if they can't go - fans can stop paying any attention to the tour. Even if Noel picked up the acoustic guitar and played just one different song each gig it would be enough to keep fans interested. There would be that thrill of "what's he going to surprise us with tonight?".
When Jim's blog was active at least he was keeping us going every few weeks with a few rarities or remixes. We were still getting some sort of regular Oasis fix.
Currently being an Oasis/Noel/Liam fan consists of buying Noel's new album, perhaps catching him in concert once, then switching off for three years until something new from him comes along.

If Noel carries on like this set lost wise, and he is still strumming along to listen up and its good to be free in 5-10 years, will anyone honestly prefer seeing that to an Oasis reunion?

Imagine that long-sought for Oasis gig kicking off and it starts with Noel coming out first and singing It's Good To Be Free. I wouldn't know whether to cry or laugh myself dead.

Noel's gig during HFB 1 were amazing tbh. He needed to prove something so he gave it 100%. Seen him twice in 2011, both amazing gigs. Way better than latter Oasis gigs.
Live shows : Now i've seen him two times during CY tours, first time wasn't so good, at the beginning of the tour. The second one was much, much better. I guess he wasn't too confident with the new songs and got to play them more.
But he also only plays the "safe" ones and that's no good for us die hard fans, but Noel has the casual fan in mind. And those people dont wanna hear about the Right Stuff or The Songs remain the Same. those people are bored easily and get their phone out when Noel play a relatively obscure song. So that makes sense that he doesn't want to change the setlist. He has to remain relevant one way or another. It's a business after all.
As for the records : CY is (a very small) step down from HFB1, coz, and i stand by what i said when it was released, it sounds like a rushed record put together when AA sessions fell appart, based on his demos : The Girl With the X Ray Eyes demo is the proof of that.
People may not like HFB1 but there are some really good tunes on it, well produced, bar Record Machine and Stop the Clocks. Who wasn't surprised when What a Life was heard for the firs time ? Or Everybody's on the Run ? Even The Death of You and Me was a good surprise.
Can't say the nananana song was good surprise, on the other hand... CY has more ups and downs and really shit first two singles. 5 years later i still listen to HFB1 it regularly and it flows really well, when CY sounds like a weird best of, put together by some record label exec.
Noel's problem is that he's stuck between staying relevant by pleasing ringtones people and us, wanting him to explore other musical territories... But seriously, can he do it ? I doubt that.
As he's always said, he's good at writing chords and melodies. He will never go Disco-Ambiant, but he could release a different kind of record, something more spontaneous. Beady Eye tried something different but with BE, and tbh, with the right choices of tracks, it's a strong record. I think Noel should try something like that. Like an acoustic record, or a lo-fi record.
As for the interview, i thought Noel is still entertaining, provided the questions are good...

They put out the music and turn up and play the gigs.

Noel as an act is really suitable for the constant scrutiny and dissecting this forum places on him. Ive stopped listening to every interview, watching every gig and keeping up to date and its so much better. Noel keeps his cards close to his chest at all times, he sticks to the same formula and wont vary his setlsts and gets asked the same questions in all his interviews. Just stop watching his every move and see how much of a difference it makes

Noel as a act. Or say a touring entity. Is over. He will never write another wonderwall. And he was never the consummate live act. So what you get now is. Noel. 20 plus years removed from his best days. But he still tries. I respect him for that. But he is like a pitcher who lost his fastball. Or Peyton who can. No longer throw. Noel. Can still manage a concert much like Peyton can manage a clock . But he can't hold the crowd in the Palm of his hand anymore. Honestly. He never could live. But now it's obvious You go to a gig. And unless your a fangirl. Your wondering when will the encore be Cause I want to best traffic. He is no longer MADFERIT. and neither am I In this version of Noel TBH
