Another fun, inclusive topic that should spark some good discussions and debates. Basically, list any and/or all of the bands you think are over rated - including reasoning would be good, too.
I'll kick off:
The Killers - Hot Fuss is brilliant, and they're good for their one-trick big single. But really don't deserve the hype they get. I know they're loved in England. As far as I'm concerned, they can fuck off (for the most part. Leave Hot Fuss, and parts of Sam's Town). Brandon Flowers is an irritating twat, too.

Not a warning, not a question. A bullet. So pay the money and take a shot Leadfill the hole in me I could burst a million bubbles All surrogate and bullet proof Seriously, like apparently everyone, I love Reservoir Dogs (there's a film poster on my wall looking down on me right now) and Pulp Fiction. Jackie Brown is great too and I loved Death Proof. But I'd rather watch, let's say, my Godard boxset or Eraserhead 20 times in a row than watch Kill Bill/Django Unchained/Inglorious Basterds ever again. His latter movies are so overly ambitious and superficial, they just heavily fail to be the outsider work of art they aim to be. Perhaps they just not appeal to me. There's nothing and absolutely nothing spontaneous and innovative about them. They are nice to watch though, while you have nothing better to do.

Agree on Queen.
Pink Floyd has some great songs/albums, but sometimes i feel their reputation far exceeds the lite-prog that is their actual music.

Ahh... the pain is instant. It's a difficult balancing act between this thread and the other, however I'll happily nominate Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Weezer. Queen's a solid shout too.

The Libertines. I cannot fucking stand them and never have.
I think a lot of my annoyance stems from the fact that retrospectively they've been given this Cultural Phenomenon tag but I assure you they were nothing of the sort.
I was a 17 year old lad in England when Up The Bracket was released. Massively into guitar music I went to gigs every week and the scene at that time was great. Surely I was a prime target? If they did have a cultural impact it must have passed me by. They were just another band amongst many, and a poor one at that. They weren't even around first or anything. I don't remember an abundance of Libertines t-shirts or hearing their music in pubs.
I brought their album because I brought practically every new album back then. Didn't like it and didn't think much of it and moved onto the next band. Then the 2nd album follows, I didn't buy it but I know a few who did. The general consensus was it wasn't as good as the first but I don't remember a great deal of hype around it.
Then they split up and Pete becomes famous for being a smackhead, breaking in the Carl's house and going out with Kate Moss. A few years later this myth starts building around 'legendary, influential Libertines!'. Surely this isn't the same Libertines who were always in the background during the 02-05 music scene? Who didn't headline a festival, sell many records and don't even have an iconic song which crossed into public consciousness?
It appears to me of a case of Chinese whispers and people who weren't around at that time, over hyping a thing which didn't exist.
People like there music, which is good for them but that's all they were/are, a band which some people liked and some people didn't

This thread is brilliant yet saddening, especially when you see bands you love called overrated (particularly Gorillaz and Libertines, ouch! 2 of my absolute favourites!)
Alas, that is the nature of this discussion.
My choices:
The Black Keys. A dreadful band, dreadful songs, to me they are a shite copy of the mighty White Stripes. Their self-arrogance about how good they are is appalling also. Don't know why people like them so much
Bloc Party. That lead singer, what a c*nt. Again, people that think they are so above other artists when they clearly aren't, how frustrating!
The Rolling Stones. Great band don't get me wrong, I just don't get it, I can't stand Mick Jaggers voice, its anything but iconic if you ask me. I don't think they're as great as people make out, nothing like the Beatles or the impact they've had (to me)
Can't think of any more right now but I'm sure I'll be back with more..
