Another fun, inclusive topic that should spark some good discussions and debates. Basically, list any and/or all of the bands you think are over rated - including reasoning would be good, too. I'll kick off: The Killers - Hot Fuss is brilliant, and they're good for their one-trick big single. But really don't deserve the hype they get. I know they're loved in England. As far as I'm concerned, they can fuck off (for the most part. Leave Hot Fuss, and parts of Sam's Town). Brandon Flowers is an irritating twat, too. Sam's Town is in my top 3 albums of the 21st Century by any artist, I love that record but I forget it's nearly 10 years old and they haven't done a decent thing since. They certainly don't deserve the recognition they still get because their decline has been worse than 21st Century Oasis!

It is really weird when you live outside UK to listen about that Libs are overrated. When you go to google.rs it is enough to type ,,oa'' to get oasis from google suggestions but you have to type whole word libertines.

Arctic Monkeys. Are they really that good? I like a few songs by them, but the rest? Half baked ordinary indie.
Blur. And not because I'm an Oasis fan. I just can't get into them... I really like some stuff, but most of their albums leave me quite cold and bored. And I've always found very strange that so many people praise Blur and hate Oasis without knowing more than three-four songs by each band. It's cool to like Blur, apparently.
The Libertines. I never understood all the hype behind them. Decent indie rock band but nothing more, imho. It probably is a different thing in Britain...
Foo Fighters. I like Dave Grohl, he seems a genuine guy. But every album by them includes one great song, another good one and the rest is just uninspired filler.

I don't agree with the Arctic Monkeys. Alex Turner is one of the best lyricist ever in Britain, his metaphors are pure genius.
I agree with Adele, The Killer, The Libertines, Blur (although I like them) and Radiohead.
I'd like to add someone I think is overrated but I can't remember.

"They made only one good record" etc. etc. That's what people usually say about the Roses. The truth is that they made an almost legendary record and a good effort on their second work, and they influenced a generation. Plus the fact that they were, they are and they will ever be unique.

Robbie Williams
(To be honest, I'm not sure whether we're even able to consider him as an artist.)

I like them but when I hear that they re not just a "beatles wannabe" band like Oasis, it makes me laugh, when you know they were heavily influenced by the Kinks (Parklife, Modern Life Is Rubbish, for example)

Blur are a better band than Oasis, but Oasis had better songs. I'm actually on a Blur kick right now, but shit they're great. They evolved as a band too in sound and perspective. I really like their artistic journey and Damon/Coxen's chemistry. Parklife and 13 are probably top 50 albums for me. The rest of their albums are all very good to great with their first being mediocre (sing and there's no other way are great though).
I can see The Libertines being overrated on here and in Britain, but meh they never really got their due. Two pretty good albums. Not overly bothered by them being called over or underrated, maybe cause I'm American.
The Door's aren't overrated but Jim Morrison is overrated.

Led Zeppelin And I tend to agree with theyknowwhatimean - I like The Stone Roses, but that first album is overrated. 10 songs and I think three of them are duff - for me anyway, that's not good enough for an apparently great album. And there is this whole myth surrounding the band - Spike Island is mythologised yet the gig itself was, in reality, shit. John Harris wrote how awful it was, and Noel himself says it wasn't any good. Taking that as an example, I am wary of any other apparent myth that surrounds the band.

A lot.

Arctic Monkeys: Just totally generic indie as far as I'm concerned, like indie for people who want to like indie. Boards of Canada: I just don't think their influence over electronica is that great, you can hear similar sounds all over WR before Music has the Right to Children etc... Blur: A decent pop band, absolutely nothing more. Bruce Springsteen: Ok, this is where shit gets heavy. I can't stand Bruce Springsteen. I respect him both as a singer and creative talent but his songs make me feel borderline depressed with their American blandness. The Rolling Stones: Don't know why I don't like them, I just know that not once in my life have I enjoyed listening to them. Led Zeppelin: Meh. Keane: Just to annoy mystoryisgory...At least we're both cool enough to like Coldplay

Not to mention that the lead singer can't sing; not in the way that Morrissey and Liam are not technically gifted, but on the right song can prove effective, I mean Ian Brown cannot sing a single note.

Also, I partially agree. I'd say the last 8 years they have been overrated in that nothing of late has been worthy of listening (Thom Yorke's solo record so predictable now) but I like everything before then, In Rainbows would have been a great swansong. Aside from a few songs, King of Limbs was shit and I remember fans saying it may have been part one of something else - read between the lines, they weren't satisfied so were expecting a bit more. Plus the fact that really annoys me about them of late - why not play your best songs at a live gig? I'm not saying play a greatest hits set but stop being so fucking precious and pretentious Thom Yorke.
