True Story: Clint Eastwood, the Gorillaz song, came out when I was in 8th grade. I memorized literally all the words fairly quickly, and I would go continually around the school just rapping it throughout my 8th grade year. Yeah, I was such a cool fucking kid. Fuck off.

But I still feel massively insecure regardless. Good tidings x.

Foo Fighters- I like Dave Grohl and think some of there songs are good but they get away with releasing the same song every 2 years. Oasis got slagged off to high heaven for not changing, yet the public seem to love the Foo's no-nonsense rock year in year out. Apart from Best of You, Everlong and All My Life, the rest are pretty average. Just once I'd like to hear a song and go 'wow, that's good, it sounds like Dave's voice but it doesn't sound like the FF, who is it?' Then be pleasantly surprised when it is then. Now it's just 'yeah it's ok, meat and two veg rock, standard formula, it's like All My Life but not as good
Also Coldplay haven't done anything really good in 7 or 8 years and neither have Radiohead. Not sure you can call them overrated because what they did before then but both need to pull something out of the bag to make them still relevant today

I don't mind if people create the same kind of songs, as long as they're good and not too similar. Sure, I prefer a fresher sound, but if I want that then there's enough other music to listen to. Btw, the Foos have been slagged off because of that often enough.

Although given the type of people who live in St. Helens, the gift of sight is not necessarily a good thing. Oh, and TV on the Radio are overrated - even though DLZ is an absolute tune.

I don't expect every band to be Radiohead and reinvent themselves every album but they don't seem to change at all!
You could literally pick any song of theirs from there 20 year history and move it onto any of their albums and it'd fit seamlessly. I can't think of many other bands with such monotony.
It works for them so fair play and for the odd song they're great but could you imagine listening to their back catalogue? I'd get very bored very quickly. You have to be in that Foo Fighters mood as it is all the same. Whereas I can be in a Definitely Maybe mood, Be Here Now Mood, SOTSOG mood etc or The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby Moods etc.
The albums are still very much the same band but with twists,

Incredible how the cult of personality that surrounds Dave Grohl covers up the fact that they are immensely dull. Proves that the appeal of image in music doesn't just appeal to pre-teen girls, but people who should know better. That sounds really arrogant I know but this is coming from my experience of people I know saying Oasis are shit yet listen to Foo Fighters. Bizarre!

I buy my glasses from a small local opticians when I'm up in Orkney which doesn't have all these major height street chains, so I'm very ignorant as to how useful they are.

They're the only place I've ever been to so I couldn't make a great judgement, but they have a great selection to choose from. Eye tests are quick and easy, and good service. Prices are steep though, luckily I get them for prices tantamount to robbery for being under 16 or still in full time education

I'd also like to add the Sleaford Mods. What the fuck is that all about?
And also the entirety of the Mercury Award Nominees

Oh, and TV on the Radio are overrated - even though DLZ is an absolute tune. Have a listen to Wolf Like Me from their second album (you probably have already anyway..), but I imagine, just by reading your posts, I slightly got to comprehend (and appreciate!) your taste in music and this is a tune you'd absolutely love.

It's good, and I like the propulsive feel it has - but it does also feel like DLZ with a weaker melody. Production is great as usual though.

Royal Blood - A pretty decent duo whose success more accurately reflects the lack of 'heavy' rock outfits appealing to mainstream rock and indie fans, rather than the quality of the small amount of material they have produced so far. An exciting sound for the indie-kids.
Taylor Swift - Is it any coincidence that she exploded in popularity after she teamed up with Max Martin? He's namechecked as a writer in every single one of 1989's singles and the only single I can recall from her the album before that. Can pop singers sell out? Because it looks like she gave in.

Totally agree with the first. There just another cute British hyped band. Pretty generic rock, but at least it has a bit of balls to it. Still hardly the rock n' roll gods that the NME make them out to be. Dude's make "ight" rock, but its pretty damn forgettable to be honest. Great to go to a gig, but on record its just "meh". T-Swift's move to Martin is something that needed to happen especially after she dipped her feet into full fledged pop music on Red. She's always been big, but as she's moved toward the monogenre of pop (led by Martin's production) she's lost her shine with me. Still 1989 has some tunes (Style). Like seeing Taylor become a legit pop star, but she's kinda became more generic has she's gotten bigger. Like a lot of the tunes on 1989 could have been down by some else. I don't want another 1989 and I hope she won't follow suit. I'd love to her a stripped down singer songwriter album from her but I can't see that coming out until she's in her 30's. She'll probably follow 1989 with another legit pop album, which makes sense just I hope it isn't solely a Martin produced project.

Adele, obviously. Amy Winehouse.
What, you have "sooo much soul" because your voice sounds like you smoke 3 packs of cigs a day (which they do/did)?

Her musical sentiment is drenched is sappy syrup, but I gotta disagree with you on Amy. This isn't so post-after she's dead acclaim either, Amy was and is legit. Name me a jazz singer (she's not a neo-soul diva like Adele, although adele and duffy rode the motown vibes of Back to Black), whose been popular in 00's besides Amy. The best thing is, is that she brought something new to jazz. She had a spine and ruthless unapologetic sass to her, that she effortlessly delivered in her lyrics and in music. "kept his dick wet with his same old safe bet" you'd NEVER hear that line on an Adele record or on most modern jazz records. Its just brutal, upfront honesty delivered with a jazzy croak that'd make Billy Holiday proud. She was 23 when she made Back to Black and her debut Frank honestly deserves more love. What a career she had in front of her. She died when she was 27 and didn't make but two records. She should have made many many more records. its a shame that fame and addiction destroyed her, but when you listen to the music her talent is bigger than than those ever were, and more importantly it comes from a genuine place. She could have been one of the greatest, its honestly fucked up that we (fame, celebrity, british press) destroyed her.

Walk, Rope, Congregation, I'll Stick Around, Aurora, Stacked Actors, Hey Johnny Park, My Hero, Big Me, This Is A Call, Break Out, possibly Learn to Fly, Times Like These, DOA, Cold Day in The Sun, Long Road To Ruin, Arlandria, Outside, In the Clear. B-sides arent really up to scratch, think World is the only one worth mentioning.

Arctic Monkeys: Just totally generic indie as far as I'm concerned, like indie for people who want to like indie. Boards of Canada: I just don't think their influence over electronica is that great, you can hear similar sounds all over WR before Music has the Right to Children etc... Blur: A decent pop band, absolutely nothing more. Bruce Springsteen: Ok, this is where shit gets heavy. I can't stand Bruce Springsteen. I respect him both as a singer and creative talent but his songs make me feel borderline depressed with their American blandness. The Rolling Stones: Don't know why I don't like them, I just know that not once in my life have I enjoyed listening to them. Led Zeppelin: Meh. Keane: Just to annoy mystoryisgory ...At least we're both cool enough to like Coldplay Still pretty much agree with this. I wouldn't say Adeles overrated as I never really hear her being praised or critically admired, she just sells loads. Although, I can't believe I didn't mention the big one - ABBA. I fucking despise ABBA. Sound tracking middle aged weddings the world over. You can throw Nirvana in there too.
