The official (aslong as there isn't another, I didn't check ) Manchester United thread for next season. I think our transfer business has been pretty good, Valencia may not have the goal scoring ability of Ronaldo but he's an established Premier League winger and with the right training etc, he could bag 7 or so this season, maybe even 10. Owen, imo is a superb signing and if we can get atleast 30 games a season out of him, he'll hit between 15 and 20 goals. Obertan is one for the future, thats about it. Were also still being linked to Ribery and David Silva, both of whom could hit 10-15 goals a season and get a few assists too. I think we'll get one of them, and if we do, this would be my ideal team for next season... GK - Van Der Sar RB - O'Shea/Brown (depends on how he bounces back from injury) CB - Vidic CB - Ferdinand LB - Evra RM - Valencia CDM - Carrick CAM - Anderson LM - Ribery/Silva or if we don't get either, put Anderson down the left and put Fletcher at CDM and Carrick at CAM ST - Rooney ST - Berbatov

The premiership is between themselves and Liverpool again. Maybe Chelsea but i'd have to see them play a few times before I comment fully.

Wenger may aswell of gone insane with the people he's sold in recent years and even more so for trying to re-sign Viera, a man who's made just 51 appearences over the last 3 seasons. I'd be surprised if you don't lose Fabregas, Gallas and Arshavin in the coming year or two.

I say the top 6 will end up like this by May...
-----------
1st - Manchester United 2nd - Chelsea 3rd - Liverpool 4th - Everton 5th - Tottenham 6th - Arsenal
If Spurs can sort themselves out, they'll be contenders to the top 4 again I think in the coming years, hence the 5th place I predict for them.
EDIT - Not City at 4th, Everton. Was reading something about them and put 'em in. City - 7th I say.

Villa at 8th imo, maybe even 9th or 10th if Fulham can build on momentum, but the Europa League may destroy both of them and allow Sunderland to creep in and nab 8th or 9th. I reckon the league itself is between us and Chelsea, who i've always been a fan of, probably due to Mourinho's arrogance. Liverpool will have their moment as per usual where they think 'Fuck me, we could win the league' and then come March, fizzle out and end up 3rd or 4th. The table in all...
1st - Manchester United (Still the strongest team even without Ronaldo and Tevez. Rooney will shine though as will the youngsters, like Anderson, Nani, Gibson, Macheda, Rafael, Evans, Fabio and Welbeck. Have a depth no other team has, will gell as a team unit without greedy Ronaldo)
2nd - Chelsea (Have world class players and a world class manager. Just the lack of depth and ego's which ruin it for them)
3rd - Liverpool (Will start strong but when injuries begin to set in and Gerrard, like he always does misses 2 or 3 games in a row, the team drop a few levels in quality and begin to draw with shit teams and lose to them)
4th - Everton (Bar Ferguson, Moyes is the best manager in the Premiership for what he's done on his budget. Have great quality and some depth, they'll impress from the start and remain consistent)
5th - Tottenham - Have always had the potential and could get 4th instead of Everton. Bentley's crossing will finally have an impact with Crouch up front and with Lennon beginning to hit the start of his peak, they'll make a huge dent on the big 4)
6th - Arsenal - Great quality in some areas, no quality in others. Lack of depth and experience and in particular, a lack of a defense will bring them down big time. Fabregas, Arshavin, Walcott and Van Persie to save them)
7th - Manchester City - (The spending will make them a bit better, but not good enough to make the top 6. They'll gel towards the end of the season and then Hughes should sign players to fill in the edges and they'll break the top 6, maybe top 4 depending on ego's in 2010/2011, maybe the season after)
8th - Fulham (I have this feeling about Fulham, there the team that you always forget about, a consistent team who get two wins in a row, draw one, lose one or two, win two in a row, draw, lose one or two etc etc)
9th - Sunderland (Steve Bruce is a great manager and now finally having a good budget and a half decent side, he'll carry on where Keane finished)
10th - Aston Villa (as you said, the squad is way too small and with Europe next season, there gonna fucking perish)
11th - Blackburn Rovers (Will be the same as Stoke and Bolton, just they'll keep dipping in and out of the top half and eventually stick to the bottom half)
12th - West Ham United (Zola's good, but alas, Ashton isn't, Cole isn't, Di Michelle isn't, the whole team's sub-par but not bad enough to be relegated)
13th - Bolton Wanderers (Read below)
14th - Stoke City (Will be the team that will never look like getting relegated, but never look like reaching the top half)
15th - Wigan Athletic (Everyone's fucked off, plus a manager used to League 1 and 2)
16th - Wolves (Will steer clear of relegation with a game or two left)
17th - Birmingham City (Will survive on the last day)
18th - Portsmouth (Don't care if they have a rich owner, everybody's fucked off)
19th - Hull City (Lucky as fuck last season, but still I think down to the last game)
20th - Burnley (Small squad, not even experience, another Derby/Sunderland/West Brom)

Ben Foster is a mug. He gifted Chelsea their goals today.
As long as he's inbetween the sticks, you lot are fucked. Hell, even Almunia > Foster.

Ben Foster is a mug. He gifted Chelsea their goals today. While I'll admit that he looked a little edgy yesterday, to state that he's to blame for either goal is just plain wrong. The first was the result of bad marking on Nani's part - Foster had already done all he could to prevent Drogba scoring from Malouda's cross - and the second stemmed from a very poor decision from Chris Foy, United's players reacting slower than Chelsea's and becoming overexposed at the back. Anyone who's seen Ben Foster prior to yesterday's game will know that he's top-class, and with more games under his belt he'll become a much more accomplished goalkeeper. Besides, I think you've recently proven yourself to be no judge of goalkeepers.

No. Foster should have saved both, especially the first - wtf was that shit he was doing?
Ben Foster isn't as good as you make him out to be. But I guess that's fine cos I don't know a 2nd GK to be of high quality - Fabianski has his moments of utter shitness, too
Chelsea in no way deserved either of their goals. You're fucked until Vanders returns.

I'd rather have Foster in my team than Fabianski at the meantime. As for Man Utd's title chances? I haven't the foggiest who will win the league (I believe Arsenal can challenge) but I'm going to say Man Utd and Liverpool to top it - probably just edging towards Liverpool but I don't have full faith in them because Benitez is so stubborn at times. I think Chelsea will come fourth.

Im pretty happy with the way United have played during the pre-season and against Chelski on Sunday, the football looks better than last season tbh. We will miss Ronaldo, ofcourse, but i hope Rooney will step up (Oh and Berba too, anyone would have noticed him making more of an effort on Sunday, and FUCK that guy's got a great, great touch).
Alan Hansen (that vagina) pointed out something to which I agree, which is that one of the most important things that Ronaldo brought to United was the edge against smaller teams. Whilst the 'Pool drawed lots of matches against said "lesser" teams, United's record was really good, and most of that was down to Ronaldo.. Lets hope we can still do it w/out him.
Defence should be sound, probably the best in the world. And, I have faith in Foster, he's proved that he had the talent before, lets just hope that he fares better than he did against Chelsea, i reckon he really should have stopped the second.
The midfield though doesn't really convince me. Carrick can let go some nice passes, but seems he's caught "Liam Miller syndrome" flows in and out of games, not really bringing much. Fletch on the other hand, just WOW. Who would have guessed Scotty boy would have had such an evolution? I wonder if we would have been smashed as we were in Rome if he was here.. Scholes is getting old, so is Giggs, won't get as many matches. Anderson really needs to step up and be consistent, and SCORE FFS! That free kick was a beginning, but please, how can an offensive midfielder be that crap at scoring?!
Nani, Park and Valencia are now our only wingers, none of which really compare to Ronaldo.. Valencia is one thing that we probably haven't had at United since Golden Balls; PROPER CROSSES! No nonsense winger, dribbles well, has pace, and can whack in a proper ball for Berba, Roon and Owen. Ahhh the pleasure of having Owen at United.. the looks on my 'pool friends was enough, i dont really care if he under-performs! And I feel Rooney's and Berba's partnership will bloom, they're both just too good to not click together.
Pretty excited for the start of the season, cannot wait. Can't really predict who'll finish where yet, much too soon, need to see the teams' performances first, but i really do think United's got a chance of lining 4 in a row. Here's to next May!

Carrick has been sheer class for the last two seasons, and if he hasn't convinced you of his ability by now then I don't know that he ever will.

Dont get me wrong, Carrick really has been great the last 2 seasons and half, but really since the second half of last season, this pre-season and the community shield, he has not brought a lot to the team. I really do think he's class, and thats why I'm kinda pissed at him, he doesn't seem to be doing as much as he should lately. And Fergie's left him out against Brum, he wasn't even on the team-sheet, which may point out that he's not too satisfied.. Lets hope he regains his form
