Yep, agree with SOULDIGGER, this is well said. This aged well... The album is unambitious shite for the most part.

Incredible. Messi properly doing it at the World Cup. Overall team performance so great, what a tactical masterstroke bringing in Alvarez and Fernandez. Alvarez is so much fun to watch. A bit of chaos up front and cool headed stability from Fernandez in the middle of the pitch.

Yan Bingtao suspended amid match fixing investigation, that's a huge scalp.
Worrying trend here too. I was at the Scottish Open a week back taking in a couple of days and in all honesty, I doubt the majority of players there make serious money when taking overheads into account (they are not contracted so pay for accommodation, coaching, travel, etc). Go far in tournaments and you can recoup and gain a hefty profit but obviously only a select few.
To really reap rewards you have to be an elite player. Outside of that, more will be tempted to throw a game.

It's one of the only times I can remember when England played better than the opposition and lost - certainly in a big game. At least we came out and played ... unlike the Euros where we got exactly what we deserved. Nothing. Probably keeps Southgate in the job until the Euros do you think? He's probably done enough, I've seen a lot of folk criticising his tactics and suggesting Thomas Tuchel as a replacement. But Tuchel has awful man management, and is just a downright weird and unlikeable individual. He might be tactically superior but the dressing room culture and togetherness under Southgate counts for a lot as to why England have done relatively well under him. Can't underestimate that aspect of management.

YouTube has been utterly ruined by ads. Capitalism is so grubby and lame. Yep. Ruined it. But have you tried AdBlock? I use it and it works a treat.

Given that I got every quarter final prediction wrong so far, I have an announcement to make: Congratulations England for having beaten France and made it to the semi finals! 🏴🏴🏴 I won't be so bold to say whoever wins tonight wins the World Cup but whoever does is definitely favourites.

Portugal out. Ronaldo gone from the World Cup for good. Good fucking riddance.
Congrats Morocco, the best Africa side we've ever seen.

Fucking hell. But if you build a team around that little prick Neymar and his massive ego, then it's a team that hardly screams mental giants.
They'll never win it until that shit is out the team. Get him the fuck out.

Noel is playing Audley End in August and support comes from The Zutons and Tom Meighan. Not happy about Meighan at all. That's no right decision. Noel should not let him do a support gig, no matter if they are still friends or whatever. Fucking hell, does Noel ever have support acts that aren't washed up has beens? Old timers who haven't been around for years and the other a woman beater. Do something interesting for once Noel.

If you have a spare 20 minutes, watch this beautiful little documentary about a Welsh shepherd called Wilf Davies. Touches upon a sense of place and a sense of identity, a true character formed by the land and rhythm of seasons but very mellow too in that he seems to be the last of a dying breed in declining community.
There's none of this middle class 'lone enraptured male' bollocks that surrounds rhetoric about the beauty of the countryside, he's the last of a dying breed in being an honest, hardworking, salt of the earth individual that is rare in society.

Haha, really nice. Both Liam and Noel seem to have cottoned on to Stand By Me's popularity in the last few years, which I'm still curious where it has come from in all honesty.
Also, is that the first time he's played the Royal Festival Hall since his unexpected lead performance for MTV Unplugged?

Interesting comments from Larry Mullens regarding U2 in an interview with Washington Post. The article says if the band plays live in 2023 it will likely be without him, as he needs surgery to continue playing. www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2022/11/28/u2-kennedy-center-honors/"You only do this if you’re having the best time. And not everyone is going to make it because the price is so high. So I think the challenge is for more generosity. More openness to the process. I am autonomous and I value my autonomy. I don’t sing from the same hymn sheet. I don’t play to the same version of God. So everyone has their limits. And you only do this if it is a great time you’re having, you know?” He also claims band decisions would be made by what they called the “Politburo,”. In Larry’s view, the system that served the band well for so long has now become more of a benevolent dictatorship. Some rumours that they are setting their stall out for (a) a future without Larry (b) continuing with other drummers and letting him contribute when he can or (c) demanding Bono and The Edge be more flexible and accommodating with touring/album plans. I can't imagine U2 without any of the four of them so would be a sad day without him. What with Bono's heart operation a few years ago and Larry's back problems, it's striking for what seemed like an invincible band not that long ago are so much older and fragile now.

Sam Matterface single handedly destroys every game in the World Cup.
He could be commentating on the greatest game ever and it would be ruined just by his presence alone. Such an awful and annoying commentator and I hope he gets binned.

Knebworth wouldn't rank anywhere near any of the band's best performances. There's loads and loads from the golden era that are superior. Maine Road far and away the better.
It's a shame then that Oasis management seem to think bigness equates greatness for these live releases. Familiar To Millions is utter shite, with a crap setlist, and Knebworth is only an occasion for its size and indication of their popularity, nothing else. Just thinking about all the genuinely great Oasis performances that haven't been released.

You want album that sounds like lost classic from 70s with sexy singer with long hair? Why wasting your time with The Car when Paolo does everything better, he even has better hair 😁 I think he's more soul than the vocal jazz/lounge vibe Turner is going for, but that's irrelevant because Paolo Nutini has tunes which is Turner's failing at the minute. I really love Mirrorball and was hyped but that's the only one that's grabbing me so far, believe me I've really tried but I'm struggling with it primarily because of the lack of tunes. I respect the change in style but I was expecting this to be a more finessed, tightly crafted tuneful evolution from Tranquillity Base Hotel. I like the vibe and I like the style but the songs just aren't there for me. If I like the sonics of an album without attention to the songs, then it's nothing more than just pleasant background music. No I'm not looking for MOR pop, I've been listening to some of the old vocal jazz songs this week, and stuff like Scott Walker too, and they are great because they have (a) the vibe + (b) TUNES! The whole dispensing with melody and tunefulness in today's indie/alt rock crowd isn't some kind of cool subversion of the genre, it's just lazy and a lack of execution.

I was a big fan of Blur 10 years ago, got all their albums and listened to all of them. But I slowly realised I stopped listening to them and I haven't listened to them for years.
I don't know why, nothing of theirs resonates anymore. There's some bands you grow out of and some that stay with you eternally, Blur must be the former.

Giving The Libertines another shot this weekend. I've tried so many times to get into this band over the last 20 years to no success. I do own the "best of" but that never really grabbed me. Gonna do their debut album top to bottom. As musicians intend. If a Best Of/Greatest Hits fails, then I don't bother with a band. By that, if there's not at least five songs that catch my ear, then it's a no go. That's the ultimate litmus test of whether you can get into a band or singer.
