You can think they're rubbish and their songs are not up to much (although you might need your hearing checked), but you can't say The Beatles are 'overrated'. Not when you consider their influence on music and their cultural reach, on top of the billion records they sold.
"I think they're rubbish", fine. I think they're 'overrated'....that's just denying facts.

**deep breath** Firstly, agree Arctic Monkeys are overrated. I really like a lot of their songs, but I still think broadly they aren't that incredible. Can't stand Bob Dylan, or any music of that sort of genre. Country sucks. Rolling Stones = meh (other than a few songs) The View are a massively underrated band in the UK, their new song "Feels Like" was huge, but they still get no attention. The first two Gorillaz albums are light years ahead of anything they have done since. I still enjoy a lot of their new stuff, but those 2 albums are masterpieces, for different reasons. Plastic Beach ain't got nothing on them. Miley Cyrus should quit pop and launch herself into the rock genre, she has an incredible voice for it The three best artists in the UK right now are Wolf Alice, Sam Fender, and The 1975 (fight me) Aaaaaand finally, excluding the dreadful Beady Eye, and the awful Noel EP title tracks, I enjoy almost all of the solo Noel/solo Liam output. Most of it is really good. People here are too critical/analytical about it. I listen to post 2010 gallagher MUCH more than anything between 2000-2010 **phew** NOTE: Emphasis on opinions^ I agree about those first Gorillaz albums, particularly Demon Days which is a masterpiece. But I think Albarn has been shite since Plastic Beach onwards. His solo stuff is just some bloke mumbling into a pint glass in the corner of a pub, that Blur album was rubbish, and Gorillaz is now nothing but tuneless dirges with some fancy window dressing. Maybe the most recent Gorillaz albums are okay, so I’ve heard, but his output in those large swathes of the 2010s made me stop caring.

Franz Ferdinand's debut is a far greater album than any of the other more heralded indie debuts of that time (Arctic Monkeys, Strokes).

Ugh, I was thinking about this recently. From 2008 to now, we've been through the lifespan of Oasis from first to last album and it only feels like yesterday. Fucking hell. And never in a million years when it happened did I think we'd be 14 years on without a reunion. If it's ever going to happen, it has to happen now before they both get too old to be credible. The window is closing. I know people will say McCartney and Stones and Dylan and what not but Gallagher brothers are different. Just don't see them rocking a first time Oasis reunion with them being properly old geezers. They can still pull it off if they act now. Reckon Noel knows it too, with his recent comments about bad back and not being as confident, must be feeling his age. That's why he's been making noises about 'call my people' etc. I do think about rock n roll being a young mans game, and that there needs to be an element of energy involved. With them both in their fifties, an element of good health and fitness is required. Sorry to say, but hedonistic partying in your 20s can catch up with you in later years, and there's no way Liam and Noel are going to have the energy of, say, Bruce Springsteen in ensuring consistent great gigs. Case in point is Bono who lived a life of excessive drinking and partying during U2's peak, and struggled with a heart issue a few years back. I'd like to think they are taking care of themselves. Attitude and motivation was one thing when they were going through the motions, but add age on to it, and a reunion is a lot more difficult and disastrous if both are doing it without passion and a care in the world.

The guys in NGHFB would need a sizeable bonus for time off from Noel to even make Oasis work in any capacity. Same with the guys in Liam's touring band. The labels would have to coordinate together and revive Big Brother Ltd. in order for the old crew to come back. Chris and Gem would have no say in whether or not they could join the reunion as Bonehead would be in there in no time. Alan has expressed interest, by always somehow saying "Bags are packed!" just like Liam does in a joke-y way. So there's no ammo there for Alan. Guigs... Well hard to say with him. No word from Jay Darlington either, and he's absolutely gonna need to be apart of it if they were to bust out the old setlist. Liam will continue to tweet everything happening and maybe stir some trouble. A lot of aging up has happened for our Oasis lads. But not any actual growing up has been done. To answer your question in a more direct way, it comes back to what I said above. Sizeable bonuses. There's definitely no way Noel would let the High Flying Birds project go just to restart Oasis in any capacity. In what way is Jay Darlington an absolutely necessary part of Oasis? Finding a keyboard player would not be difficult. Yeah, if anything, Mike Rowe has a bigger claim as he was part of many legendary Oasis shows in the 90s. He's far bigger part of Oasis history than Darlington.

Timespan between the release dates of Definitely Maybe and Dig Out Your Soul is 14 years. Timespan between the band splitting and today is 14 years. Let that sink in. From Reddit Ugh, I was thinking about this recently. From 2008 to now, we've been through the lifespan of Oasis from first to last album and it only feels like yesterday. Fucking hell. I could take my enjoyment of a lot of modern pop and my disinterest in a lot of classic rock to paste together all kinds of brain-fizzling opinions, I suppose. I'd honestly rather listen to WAP than a good portion of Pink Floyd songs. I enjoy "Beautiful People" by Ed Sheeran and Khalid more than I enjoy Stairway to Heaven. On the other hand, these opinions would be completely benign to most people out there just living their lives; I suppose it's the emotive cultural hierarchy of music that emerges in more intense fan cultures that I dislike. After all, most music fans outside of here would disdain us all for loving Oasis more than Radiohead, for instance. But you like what you like! It's all wobbly air playing havoc on the wet stuff in our skulls in the end, I like to just have fun with it. Pink Floyd and Led Zep is Jeremy Clarkson music. I imagine everyone who likes them looks like him!

Just a bit more on Rolling Stones, how they are on put on a pedestal with The Beatles is beyond me.
The Beatles could actually sing and write great tunes. They were more eclectic and experimental, and just generally funnier guys.
I honestly think it was a bunch of posh southern English journalists who hyped them up as they couldn't stomach four northern English scruffy lads being better than them in every single way.

Let's go to town here.... Rolling Stones are middle class posh boys pretending to be rebellious Americans, playing derivative blues with a singer who’s voice is weak as piss.

So lads and lasses, aptly rising from the dead this Easter Sunday, it is time to complete the ultimate Live4ever album!
After six long years with this album in gestation, lets go nuts on this one where you can choose up to five results. As ever, I've taken the first suggestion of a nominated act, limiting each artist to just one.

Do people really think this is good? Losing the prospect of musical endeavour being real. It’s diverting sure but I think it’s worry. This. This sums it all up for me. It's not good and like yourself I worry about all of this. Even if it is just being used as an enhanced method of autotune to correct bad performances (such as Liam's Gas Panic). Technology perfects everything, it's all sanitised, scrubs away the imperfections and 'what ifs'. To be human is to be flawed and curious and this doesn't achieve that. I saw an interview where Brian Eno said its in our subconscious to appreciate what feels human and that modern technology that perfects every song is leaving us further astray from experiencing authentic, raw emotion. On another level, this stuff is absolutely destroying human curiosity. It's all part of society's need for instant gratification. It leaves us with no exploration, no 'what if', no sense of what it is to discover. If all my desires about Oasis is going to be satisfied through AI, my curiosity and wonder about this band will take a beating. I don't need to hear Liam singing Don't Look Back In Anger if it doesn't exist. I can only wonder, and sometimes that's good enough.

Best result from Scotland in years, since against France in 2007 - but more meaningful, this team is much better. It's a low bar, but can't remember form like this in my lifetime!

Half the world away appears to have approximately double the amount of plays that Roll With It has on Oasis's official upload youtube pages. So it isn't binding, obvious evidence but broadly HTWA seems to be "twice as liked" as RWI. Don't use Spotify so don't know how many plays each has there. I'm probably talking out my arse, too much listening to BBC Radio 2...

Alexis Petridis's argument is spot on.
And while I agree with D'Souza's comment that there's not one person who'd rather listen to Noel and Liam's solo efforts over the best of Oasis, their solo quality is still lightyears ahead of the mediocrity of post-90s Oasis. That's ultimately what we're up against, not the glory years, and I know what wins out every time.

If you gave the general public a vote between Roll With It or Half The World Away, they'd definitely opt for the former.
Easy Now definitely the most radio friendly of the singles released. It has grown on me after I initially dismissed it, I'm not digging it out all the time but it's a pleasant song whenever it pops up on shuffle.

A good 7/10 at the moment. I like it, a really nice tune. It's very dreamy, more haunting than his usual stuff and I'm liking that style - yes I am all for Noel becoming the male Kate Bush! I can hear bits of Scott Walker, Nick Drake and Burt Bacharach again (the latter influence always a welcome presence on any Noel song) and great news that he's diverting away from the usual 'yer da's' Britrock inspirations. I'm not blown away by it like others though, it and it doesn't have the emotional impact of Dead In The Water (which is the benchmark tune of this kind). It seems a bit slight, for me it just lacks that killer touch to move from very good to genuine classic. But overall the song is definitely a vibe and direction I can get on board with. That's just me though. I get why folk love it though. I also love seeing so many folk bowled over by it and if it works for so many of you, then that's the main thing. Change the seven to a six and this is where I am. What's your hype-level for this album, matt? And theyknowwhatimean, don't starve me of your thoughts on the tune. I'm definitely looking forward to it but I'm certainly not hyped for it. The moment he said he was producing it himself a few years back is the moment I mentally put it by the wayside. It's nowhere near the sonic drudgery of Dave Sardy but Noel's production is workmanlike at best. Heck, it doesn't even need to be an experimental producer for me to be excited, just somebody who would be a better arranger for his songs. On the actual creative front for a conventional sound, even somebody like Nigel Godrich or Rick Rubin would ensure quality control. Sure enough, I don't find any of the new songs awesome. I like them though, they're all different from one another in mood and I hope he keeps up some kind of eclecticism that failed the first two albums (barring a couple of exceptional songs on each album, I never revisit the albums as they've become increasingly dull over time). In that sense, I'm still hoping - and optimistic - it will be better than the first two. I expect to file it alongside the EPs in terms of quality. Solid if unspectacular.

Been dipping in and out of Songs of Surrender in the last week since it came out. It's great fun. Inevitably for a 40 song package, it's hit and miss.
The misses are mostly the stone cold classic hit singles, so ubiquitous and delivered to perfection at first time of asking that it's all but impossible to hear them in another light. Also, far too much attention given to Songs of Innocence (their worst album). But pleasantly surprised at just how much they've really reigned it in (it really is just a Bono & Edge album), and even more surprisingly they haven't brought in some flavour of the month collaborations to ruin classics in a desperate bid to remain 'relevant'.
Such a big collection makes it easy to ignore the misses however. A couple of deep cuts that I'm a big fan of...
Hard to believe they were 18 when they wrote this one! Very other worldly and earnest for a band at that age, this one is performed solely by The Edge.
And probably my favourite ever U2 song, this reinterpretation showing that its impossible to screw this song up. Bono varying his vocals on this one from lower to higher, not emoting as much which I prefer. The masterpiece amongst masterpieces they've written.

This is not good, I read on Focusing On Wildlife that Nepal's vultures, recovering from a poisoning crisis, fly into another. I'm sure you're aware of David Attenborough's latest series Wild Isles on BBC. Check out the first episode and the first scenes with the orca whales in Shetland (a great place where I originally come from).

For a long time, it seemed to be a song lost in the ether. Suspicion amongst the fanbase here is that it developed into something else like Stop Crying, was just a sketch, forgotten completely or didn't even exist.
But for those who know better, and correct me if I'm wrong, did Noel not mention recently that it is a thing and that he uncovered it fairly recently?

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65054294It would be a miracle if this happened, but Man Utd being owned by 50% of the fans would be a gamechanger for ownership in the sport. Can only hope. It would be great to see, but will no doubt be sold out to blood money.
