This is going to be a bit ambitious and will probably fall flat, but let's try anyway to create the Live4Ever forum's most perfect album. The rules are relatively straightforward - this forum comes up with the most perfect album of all time, a 12 track album that is sequenced perfectly and flows beautifully.
So let's start with the album opener. Rather than me dictating what is the best, nominate your personal favourite and it shall go to a poll!
Polling will open when we're done nominating.
1. I Wanna Be Adored 2. Eleanor Rigby 3. Live Forever 4. Wish You Were Here 5. How Soon Is Now? 6. Unfinished Sympathy 7. You Really Got Me 8. When The Levee Breaks 9. You Can't Always Get What You Want 10. White Rabbit 11. Nightswimming 12. All Apologies
---------------------
1st Track Result 1. I Wanna Be Adored 2. Gimme Shelter 3. London Calling
2nd Track Result 1. Eleanor Rigby (9.3%) 2. Paranoid Android (7.6%) 3. This Is Music (5.8%)
3rd Track Result 1. Live Forever (17.8%) 2. Heroes (11%) 3. Come As You Are (7.4%)
4th Track Result 1. Wish You Were Here (tie break winner against Drug's Don't Work) (10.4%) 2. How To Disappear Completely/God Save The Queen/Stairway To Heaven (7.3%) 3. The Scientist (6.1%)
5th Track Result 1. How Soon Is Now? (11.4%) 2. Lithium (8.9%) 3. Lola (8.1%)
6th Track Result 1. Unfinished Sympathy/tie break winner against Karma Police (7.7%) 2. Good Vibrations/ Feel Good Inc. / Kashmir / That's Entertainment (6.5%) 3. Enjoy The Silence (4.5%)
7th Track Result 1. You Really Got Me (6.9%) 2. The Universal (6.5%) 3. Viva La Vida / Loaded (5.5%)
8th Track Result 1. When The Levee Breaks (tie break winner against God Only Knows) (8%) 2. Violet Hill / God Save The Queen (6.2%) 3. Mr Tambourine Man / Idioteque / The Only Living Boy In New York (5%)
9th Track Result 1. You Can't Always Get What You Want 9.2%) 2. Won't Get Fooled Again (7.5%) 3. Strawberry Swing/Purple Rain/Lucky Man (5.8%)
10th Track Result 1. White Rabbit (13.8%) 2. Man on the Moon / Ultraviolet (Light My Way) / Love Will Tear Us Apart (8.6%) 3. Surf's Up (6.9%)
11th Track Result 1. Nightswimming (20%) 2. Everlong / Under The Bridge (7.5%) 3. -
12th Track Result 1. All Apologies (tie break winner against Riders on the Storm) (20%) 2. This Is A Low/ Hurt (7.9%) 3. -

No oasis? Boo! What else are we here for?!
Only joking. It's a good idea, Matt, I like it.
Let me see...
I'll go London Calling by The Clash.

So many amazing tracks that could be named here it's hard to know where to begin. Boy... I'm very, very tempted to nominate 'Airbag' (Radiohead) but something would be amiss in my soul if I didn't vote 'Debaser'. It's just too fucking good.

Good and interesting choices - I'll put up a poll later when we get more. I'll chip in with my own personal favourite and nominate Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen.

Sure, I could go through all of my favorite albums in search for the perfect opening track. But since the opening track almost single-handedly defines the entire album because it's the first thing the listener hears, I almost feel like we should select the "meat" of the album first and then pick an opener that suits the rest of the songs. But since we're not doing it that way, I shall exercise my power in setting the album's tone by suggesting DJ Shadow's Building Steam with a Grain of Salt. Yes, this is a deliberate attempt to hopefully create a more daring and experimental compilation rather than the mix of Beatles, Stone Roses, Smiths, AM, and Kasabian tracks that it will inevitably be.

Taxman and Teen Age Riot. Or is it Airbag? Sunday Morning! No, it's Plain Song either/or Disorder. Summer Babe!? Blitzkrieg Bop perhaps? La Femme D'Argent? Perhaps every single Pink Floyd opener? What about Rock'n'Roll Star and is it a sin to mention Smells Like Teen Spirit? I'm just trying to say that to find the perfect opening track is quite a difficult matter, because most people would probably just name the first song of their favourite album. The hit single comes second or third, isn't that the rule? Mine's always gonna be The Queen Is Dead. Or Hello. Or... EDIT: Sorry matt for talking too much, and to give a defintive answer, my choice would probably be:

Ah fuck it. Airbag, Radiohead. Final Answer. It hurts my soul but the Pixies won't have to wait long...

I was thinking similar and asking folk whether we should ban a few bands which are Live4Ever staples. But as they say, when you start banning one thing then where does it end?! I hope it turns out a more interesting result than the usual cliched stuff like 'Bittersweet Symphony' as the opener and 'A Day In The Life' as the closer for example. I absolutely adore those tunes too but something interesting to start off with would be cool. Anyway, a band/singer will be limited to one song only. That choice of yours is great by the way - it would be the perfect opening to lure the listener in. In fact, all the choices are really interesting but personally, I'm swaying towards voting theyknowwhatimean's choice of London Calling. It's an absolutely outstanding opener and for the reason I have a couple of songs in mind for the second track that I think would sequence in a cool way IF that wins.

Well, if it's supposed to be a vote it makes no sense to nominate something people won't vote for, right? I'm going with The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead. Such a great opener and one of my all time favorites.

Haha, I think part of running any poll like this is accepting that the result will not turn out exactly the way you wanted. You can't influence the results too much otherwise it'd just be a reflection of your tastes rather than the forum's! That's why I wouldn't ban any of the Live4ever staple bands because, if that's what most people on Live4ever like, then that's what should be on Live4ever's Most Perfect Album of All Time! But still, just imagine if a seven-minute haunting electronic epic composed entirely of chopped-up beats and atmospheric snippets - pretty much as far removed from Oasis as you can get - was the opening track of the definitive album of an Oasis fan forum. Now THAT would blow some fucking minds!

I'd also like to mention the sheer fucking brilliance of Placebo's Pure Morning: What a way to get rocking! Turn it up loud to see what I mean...

But whatever wins this round will greatly influence what I nominate for the next tune (for sequencing reasons). It's a tough choice so far - an understated opening like yours or a massive sounding tune?

I'm just thinking, what does everyone think about allowing to nominate an Oasis number on here - as any act is only limited to one song anyhow, I think we can allow it?! P.S. Anyone wishing to nominate Bittersweet Symphony please feel free to do so (although I personally prefer A New Decade)!

Came here to post this one. Brilliant album opener. Three other brilliant openers worth a nomination: Drive by R.E.M., Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan, Come Together by The Beatles

Is there a limit on the number of songs a user can nominate? If not, here's a shout out to U2's A Sort of Homecoming. Incredible tune.

Fun challenge! I limited myself to ten candidates:
The Doors - Break on through (selftitled) The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the devil (Beggars Banquet) The Stooges - Down on the street (Funhouse) David Bowie - Five years (Ziggy Stardust and...) Joni Mitchell - All I want (Blue) Fleetwood Mac - Second hand news (Rumours) The Smiths - The Queen is dead (<---) Red Hot Chili Peppers - The power of equality (Blood Sugar Sex Magik) Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock (Siamese Dream) Queens of the Stone Age - You think I ain't worth a dollar, but I feel like a millionaire - (Songs for the Deaf)
If I can nominate one song only, then I'll go with Cherub Rock.
