Yeah, looks like you don't understand the word appropriated. Nah, I get it. It was just pathetic. Hmm by your reasoning I don't think you do. About as enlightened as your anti-vaccine theories.

He will most certainly never please his entire fanbase. WBTM suffered a lot of backlash from fans and yet there are many other fans who crave for more in that direction. I just hope he keeps releasing new music and pay less attention to criticism, which seems to have a lot of influence over Noel despise his general "i don't give a fuck" attitude I've been saying the same thing since HC. SOTSOG was a change in direction and a big one at that but they didn't have the songs. But he just threw everything away for HC and they still didn't have the songs. SOTSOG should have been the beginning of Oasis MKII as it seemed to be at the time, not just a sneeze in the bulk of their career. Them getting rid of DIV saying it was because they didn't have the songs is bullshit in my opinion. They didn't call them back once they had written more songs did they? Same thing with AA. Noel's always been influenced by the fans no matter what he says. With WBTM I thought "Finally! He's loosening up a bit!" and he was saying that he decided to do like he wanted and not care about what the fans said (yes I know he was quite contemptuous when he was saying that but that's not my point). This is what he needs to do, stop listening to every Tom, Dick, and Harry and just trust himself and do what he wants. There's always a part of his fanbase that will complain. Ah to be fair, I don't think they did have the songs. I think a lot of the songs on DBTT were recorded with DIV? I know A Bell Will Ring was, and regardless of who is producing that, that song ain't sounding good. I do believe Noel when he said they were polishing a turd. Death In Vegas just wouldn't work if they were just brought in to add bells and whistles to conventional songs. As with any dance/electronic acts, they need the songs built from the ground up, based on a groove, drumbeat, bassline, etc. It would have been cool if Oasis approached it in that manner.

Lol, touched a nerve! Yep. That brain-dead, overused rhetoric used to explain your dislike of a movie filmed four years prior to that maniac being elected, was, indeed, obnoxious to me. I own it. Yeah, looks like you don't understand the word appropriated.

I didn't say it was made for them, it was appropriated by them - completely different thing. Like Fight Club or American Psycho. It's not a 'fun' movie, that wasn't Scorsese's intention. The message that was critiquing the people it was aimed at took it the wrong way and thought it celebrated them. Christ... It's still fun movie. Maybe it wasn't his main intention but it is still fun. And good movie is good movie and bad movie is bad movie. I don't give a fuck how someone understood it. It's like hating Beatles because Charles Manson. And you didn't even watch it. It is art, grab a beer and popcorns and enjoy, don't let other people tell you how you should feel about movie. If you don't like it, ok, but you didn't even see whole movie. I watched two hours of it, and it was just hedonism after hedonism, and it just got tiresome. No real plot to it and was so loose. Regardless of what's in it, it just seemed drawn out beyond belief without reason. Regardless of the message or content, I thought it was badly executed.

Shite film mate, sadly wrongly interpreted and appropriated by sad virgins who support Trump. Message might be on point but it’s boring and repetitive. Story goes nowhere. You can like or dislike movie but it has nothing to do with Trump or virgins. I think that I didn't even know who Trump was when I first watch it. So, it is just movie and nothing more for 99% of people. There is no wider context. And I don't remember anything that can be wrongly interpreted. It was just fun movie with some really great acting. I didn't say it was made for them, it was appropriated by them - completely different thing. Like Fight Club or American Psycho. It's not a 'fun' movie, that wasn't Scorsese's intention. I just feel unmoved by Noel's career right now. Have you considered that maybe you have changed as a person also? And maybe you are looking for something that just isn't there anymore? You referenced songs from the SOTSOG era and the HC era, songs written 20+ years ago and songs you probably first heard when you were at a very different part in your life. New Noel songs are never going to hit like they used to, is how I feel like about it. I just try to enjoy them for what they are and I still enjoy the live shows immensely. "They" haven't take that away from me! (yet) Sorry to get a bit deep on a Thursday morning lol In fairness, I think there's that aspect to it. If this was his first solo album when I was 20 years old, I'd probably be delighted with it, and it would hold a place in my heart ever more. These days I devour less new music because a lot of it just doesn't strike a chord with me. I don't know if that's just getting older or you understand yourself a bit better so you're more particular with the things that do speak to you.

To be honest, the time for Noel to radically alter his sound was 2000.
I don't think Standing on the Shoulders was it, it's a very mellow record but aside from a bit of psychedelic window dressing, the songs are as mid tempo and conventional as you'd expect (barring Fuckin In The Bushes). He wrongly retreated from going further than that.
To mix it up as a 50 year old on Who Built The Moon is far too gone to stick with it. That's the only album that doesn't sound like Noel retracing old steps and the one with a bit more of an kaleidoscopic up tempo sound for the most part. Old habits die hard though and looking at his career as a whole, I suppose it would have been shocking to see him stick to that change that only started in his fifties.
I wish he had. While his melodic gifts are still there, they're not at the ear grabbing elite level they used to be. They're nice and pleasant but on the same level as a Travis album. I like Travis a lot, but there's a reason why Noel Gallagher is far greater than them as a songwriter and I just don't want him being part of that pleasant melodic mid tempo rock crowd. Pleasant and fine can be as much an insult as a compliment though, especially if you hate acts like Travis, and he's too good for that.
While he still can, he should use those melodic gifts to vary the sound and feel of his songs, mix it up. That apocalyptic feel of The Man Who Built The Moon, that euphoria of Holy Mountain, the pure energy you get from things like Keep On Reaching (a song I love by the way), these are all grand statements in his solo career and they stand out because of the feel they give me, I don't feel like a passive listener like with Council Skies or Chasing Yesterday. That's got a lot to do with the real punch of that David Holmes produced music. Mix it with his melodic sense and he'll be grand. Notice that I don't mention any of his EP 'dance' tunes that I think are fairly tame sounding. And that goes for most of his self-produced songs since then, barring A Dream Is All I Need and Sail On which I adore.
He can't rely on lyrics so it's got to be all about the music and melody. Council Skies is pleasant but it's nothing I haven't heard before, I've just heard it done better by him in his glory days.
Staying in your comfort zone is fine, as Noel previously said rebelling against accusations of his musical conservatism, 'that's where your comfy, why would you change it?'. But staying in your comfort zone for too long ends with you becoming numb and eventually becomes a pain in the arse. I'm at the numb feeling, I don't feel anything with his new music. Keep things fresh and exciting.

On a Bruce binge; Tracks has bundles of great albums in the making. Astonishing that so many gems just left on the cutting room floor. Can't wait for Volume II from his last 30 years.

Got to the stage where I'm not overly fussed about another Noel solo album. Same goes for Liam. Something interesting needs to happen, things are getting a bit stale. You see the likes of Springsteen/macca etc doing 3 hours live. If Noel did an hours worth of new material then even 1 hours classic oasis it would be a show worth seeing. Of his live set the only thing I really love is Dead in The Water. I’m bored of the rest. He's just not willing to take risks, barring Who Built The Moon (his dance EPs, for all that people harp on about him trying to be different, are pretty dull and too polished in the studio much like his usual stuff). I'm just bored of his solo career. Council Skies is probably the most inconsequential album he's released as far as I'm concerned. Not the worst, but the point at which I'm checking out. Which is fine for a lot of people, he could churn out Chasing Yesterday's or Council Skies every year and some people would lap it up, but there's no element of surprise to his songs. When I hear dreary mid tempo plodders like There She Blows, well, I've heard it a million times already in the last decade. Goes for so many of his songs these days.

Getting second hand car salesman vibes from Shaun Murphy's commentary tone. As much as I love to see O'Sullivan win, against Ding, he's up against a player I'd quite happily see win in Ding. Still a big snooker memory was seeing him winning this tournament as a teenager against Steve Davis back in 2005. Even Ronnie has said he’d be happy if Ding won today. It’s a nice match so far and there’s no way I’d be able to predict a winner. Murphy has such a chip on his shoulder. He absolutely dispises Ronnie and he doesn’t even try to hide it! He's so passive aggressive and snarky. I also feel like he's on the verge of saying 'I could do that, but I just don't want to' any time any player does something impressive that he never does!

Don’t really want to bring this up for fear of creating arguments or controversy. We’ve been over the split and Noel v Liam many times but I’ve never heard this mentioned before. In this interview Liam mentions that back on the last Oasis tour in 2009 he overheard a conversation between Noel and the manager, this would be Marcus Russell about Noel possibly leaving the band and going solo. He said it happened before the gig at Bridlington Spa, which was on 20th August 2009. He heard Marcus telling Noel that “it’s now or never”. He says they spoke of renting a house in LA and doing something with Dave Sardy. It is mentioned at 22:30 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-first-time-with/id383609641?i=1000444521386Marcus Russell’s input into Noel’s creative decisions is laughable. He who advocated for Sardy and advised the ditching of the AA collaboration. He’s like a really shit Jon Landau (Springsteen’s manager). It’s partly because of him that Noel’s solo career has, with the exception of Built The Moon, been dull as dishwater. Another boring yes man in Noel’s entourage, on top of the likes of Sardy, culminating in the blandest safest solo career. Of course, it’s ultimately all up to Noel but you can’t help but detect insecurity with Noel refusing to work with people who might just have a different idea to offer him. Liam’s solo career doesn’t reinvent the wheel of course but at least his doesn’t sound tired. Noel’s songs do at this stage.

Okay, so I'm going to sound like an iconoclast here... but if Wonderwall was the only song by Oasis I'd been exposed to, I won't have been compelled to look into them any further.
In no way am I saying its shit, I've learnt to love it, but I remember the first time hearing it and not being that fussed by it.
I love Liam's vocals, the iconic simple acoustic rhythm, the e-bow cello like effect, the freakin drums... all individual elements that make it stand out from everything else. For a band that was so raw in the studio, it's almost surprising how sophisticated, nuanced and polished this production is. But sometimes I think I love the execution of the song over the actual tune itself. The rest of the time, it's the other way round.
I don't know, it just lacks that special magic that represents Oasis for me.

Weird one this. The day it was released something pretty horrendous happened in my personal life, so I just don't listen to it. Not because it's a bad song, it just reminds me of that day and it's something I don't really want to think of. His voice is great in it. I know how you feel, I've got painful associations with that time too. I was going through grief of losing somebody close, and at the time I was in social work for homeless clients doing a lot of night shifts, on top of everything being shut down with another lockdown. It was an incredibly lonely place to be, and while music is comforting (and I think the sentiments of this song are probably spot on from hearing it), it's just not something I revisit due to that time. With similar sentiments, just recently I tried revisiting Bruce Springsteen's album from around that time too, Letter To You, and I know it's a brilliant album but it just brings up those memories unfortunately.

Time to revive this thread. This genuinely has to be the worst government the UK has ever had? An absolute cabal of chancers making it up as they go along and greasing the palms of their rich mates. The evidence coming out of the covid enquiry alone is just frightening. By some massive distance Name one thing the government has done that leaves a positive legacy since Lord Snooty Cameron was elected in 2010. Absolute fuck all.

Killers of the Flower Moon Out-bloody-standing film. Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro and Leonardo Di Caprio give maybe the strongest performances I've seen in the cinema for years. I'd expect one stellar performance but three in one go is a treat. I gotta watch it this weekend. How would rank it in a post Casino Scorsese's movies list ? Ashamed to say this, but this is the only Scorsese film I've seen post-Casino (tried watching Wolf of Wall Street but I hated that one and switched it off so I can't really count it). Admittedly I'm interested in the Native American history and experience so I watched it in curiosity due to that, but its an historical piece that I found totally immersive despite its long running time.

I take a look on social media and see that the Oasis page shared a post a little while ago. I click and what's new? A clip of The Masterplan (song) reshared for the millionth time in a month. If he shares it again I will remove the "follow" from the Oasis page. It could win the award for "Best Monotonous Page" in the history of social media. Your constant irritation with Noel is honestly nothing to get worked up over. It's variations of the same post time and time again. Christ.

Was watching it again recently, but the one issue I have with the Supersonic documentary is when Noel claims he can't remember Melissa Lim's (the inspiration behind Talk Tonight) face or name, almost bordering on cruel. For a song so heartfelt and for somebody who meant a lot to him, I highly doubt this. My thinking is that he said that to keep the peace with his then wife! Brief drug fuelled encounter happened 30 years, 2 wives and 3 kids ago. His reaction is to be expected. People make too much out of the whole thing. She was with him for what? couple of days at most, during a time when he was incoherent from drugs, she did a nice thing for him, he wrote a song about her, end of story. If she meant that much to him at the time he would've kept seeing her instead of Meg. Fans like James Hargreaves saying the entire album was about her blow the encounter entirely out of proportion. Not quantity of time but quality of time, you make it sound like he just had a one night stand with her! Nah, you don't write a song as sensitive and heartfelt as Talk Tonight if it was just a meaningless liaison.

I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but this is always a talking point that has bothered me about the Oasis canon and something I believe people have got wrong. My belief is that Noel wrote the songs at a key that was comfortable for him and Liam just had to manage. If he couldn't, then Noel would take over. I'm absolutely open to having my mind changed but most people I have spoken to about Oasis online (particularly casual fans) believe that Noel wrote Oasis songs with Liam's voice in mind which is backed up by interviews like this one here with Matt Morgan (cannot remember the time stamp) where he explicitely states this. However, when you look at the recording of specific songs, the song and key selection in live settings, and lack of adjustement for Liam's continual vocal deterioration, I don't believe this to be the case. I will address each of these points in turn. [li] Force of Nature - This was supposed to be the lead single for Heathen Chemistry so Liam did a take but Noel's demo featured a better vocal so they went with Noel's take instead mad4gem.tripod.com/interviews/chemistrylessons.htmThis article is quite interesting, even if its for one of the worst recorded albums in rock history. Something crossed my mind when reading it though, the unheard terrible song Noel mentions that Liam wrote that name drops all Oasis singles (when they're discussing Songbird), I'm just wondering if elements of that turned into One Of Us. Said it has a shuffling rhythm and "You say you're gonna live forever" (replace it with "you said we'd live forever").
