Thought this shit-show deserved a thread of its own for discussion. She's only been PM for three weeks but by god she's really making a right c*nt of things is she not? If you thought Johnson and his gang were incompetent, you aint see nothing yet! Unconfirmed reports of some Tory MPs already handing in letters of no confidence The big lenders pulling most of their mortgage deals, with the thought that the base interest rate might hit 6% within the next 3-6 months. So many folk are going to be screwed with their mortgage if that happens. Their conference is next week I believe, cannot wait to see how she spins things there, should be a wonderful watch.

I would be excited to see Starmer back nationalised energy and Proportional Representation if I had any faith in him to stick by those ideas, or any doubts that billionaire-owned media would convince enough of the public that they represent Chaotic Communist Stalin-era Lunacy (TM) in the event that Labour campaigned on them in an election.
As always, things will get worse before they get better. Truss will be part of that, I'm sure.

All I can say is God help us all with this government. Like I've already said in another thread last weeks budget was an absolute disgrace doing nothing for normal people who are struggling while giving the rich a tax cut. But that's the Tories all over and they will never change.

Well, I've heard it all now I've just read in the news pages on Google that the Lincolnshire County Council ( who are Tory apparently) have rejected Β£1.5m cost of living plan to help people with the living crisis which Labour had called for because the Tories claim there's already help out there. Really? What help? We've hardly had any. And, guess what this council want to spend the money on instead? Repairing roads. Bloody disgusting but it doesn't surprise me though one bit.

When he became pm in 97 I was 13, a year later university fees introduced, in 2002 I could have been at university but instead I had a job in a sammich factory, many minds to educate and all that shite.... It's no coincidence that as the arsehole gets older he's looking more and more like gollum

I have no support for any politicians whatsoever.
In the spirit of that, and of the way everything is spun in 'the news', it is worth noting that the high band tax cut to 40%, which labour are saying is the tories supporting their rich friends, takes it back to the level it was for the entire 13 years of blair/brown lab govt. Brown kicked it up to 50% in his last months as PM just before he lost an election so the incoming govt could be accused of 'supporting their rich friends'.
same as it ever was.
THEY ARE ALL THE SAME
anyone who wants to stand for election should be automatically disqualified.

See them all stating that the crash is due to fears of a Labour government, and that this is Gordon Brown's fault for making the 'rebellious' BoE independent from government. Was listening to the Tory lites presenting Radio 4s the World At 1 yesterday, no word of a lie they had some right wing nutjob 'economist' stating this wasn't the government's fault. It's shit like this that waters down the severity of the situation, makes people second guess the situation and come to their own stupid conclusion to give these bastard Tories another chance. The BBC's national output is as damaging to public opinion as the right wing nutjobs (different to its regional/local broadcast which proved today to have far better journalistic skill and holding to account than any of the Oxbridge lightweights who do the national broadcasts).

This is all part of why that it's accurate to say that the UK is a "managed" democracy. It's impossible to overstate how different the coverage of the last ten years of the economy would have been if there had been even the softest, most-pink-tied, centre-centre-left leaning Labour government overseeing it; they would have been ran out of office within one term and blamed for every economic downturn for the next three at least. You'd like to think at least some version of common sense will prevail in the end, but sadly, history tells us that it usually takes a great deal of unnecessary misery and death to get there.

I see that Nadine Dorries has called on Truss to call an election if she wants to ditch Tory policies from the Johnson era. Of course Truss won't call one as she knows full well that she and her hateful government won't win.

You'd like to think at least some version of common sense will prevail in the end, but sadly, history tells us that it usually takes a great deal of unnecessary misery and death to get there. I think 'managed democracy' is the exact term for sure. I was just reading the BBC News this morning, and there was some puff piece on Kwarteng, elaborating on his sheer self-confidence with the headline "A politician who challenges established thinking", framed as if this is going against the 'convention' which as we know is a complete failure. Which opens up a debate to people that there is some merit in the farce he presided over given how unsatisfied people are with 'convention' in general. And that's the BBC, giving credence to utter nonsense in the name of 'balance'. It's dangerous stuff, and while they call it 'balance', I've come to the conclusion it is bias and an attempt at damage limitation to things like this. I totally agree that even the tiniest smidgen of a left leaning government doing something slightly wrong would become a hysterical with hunt, BBC included. Operation Rebuild will begin this week for the BBC when they attempt to restore faith in their dear leaders, under the illusion of 'balance' to maintain a sense of independence. As you say, the perfect example of a 'managed democracy'.
