Columbia is one of my absolute favourite songs on Definitely Maybe. An addictive drug of a tune.

PYMWYMI is shocking, SMC is hardly any better. I know itβs Oasisβs come down album and it feels like that when you listen to it. A bit of drag not helped by a couple of poor song choices and baffling sequencing. I like SMC to be honest Not a patch on WDIAGW, and they could've done something better with the solo, but I think it gets too much hate I go back and forth on WDIAGW. Some days, it feels like the album version is too overdone and the demo version gets it just right. Some days, it feels like the album version has the biting aggression it deserves and the demo version misses the mark. I do like the drum loop, the organ, and the outro of the demo version. SMC, though... That needed to be a stripped down, acoustic track to really get the whole sense of what the song was after. The MTV acoustic version bares SOTSOG's comfortably downtrodden mood and it's a shame it got DLBIA-ified when that treatment just didn't work. I'd have: FITB/GLIO/WFL?/I Can See a Liar/Let's All Make Believe/Gas Panic!/Where Did it All Go Wrong? (Demo)/Sunday Morning Call (Acoustic)/Roll it Over/Stop Crying Your Heart Out (if we're going to cheat a bit) if we're really thinking about the mood of the album. It feels like a progression from really aggressive excitement to a full-on panic to picking up the pieces and getting back on your feet with that tracklist.

The leaked SOTSOG with the mistake cross face at the end version. The Radio City Music Hall version. Iβm a fan man.

I think Noel realised that there were too many slower songs on the album and sped up the tempo on WDIAGW?
I like the demo version but it misses something, the chorus is a bit weak imo, One Way Road worked better as a slow-tempo song.

I haven't listened to the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants demos in a very long time. But the demo version of Where Did It All Go Wrong? is good but I prefer the album version and the semi acoustic versions, the one which I have on a two track promo which also includes the album version and the one which Noel did on the Jools Holland Oasis special back in 2000.

Canβt believe this is turning 21. I just canβt believe it. Maybe a white Knight will drop that long lost unheard demo for a forum pick me up.
* granted this is wishful thinking by me. I donβt know anyone who has it. Not suggesting itβs happening. Just a hope. Weβve seen crazier stuff happen around these parts.

As for any lost unheard demo, well I would love to hear the demos for Let's All Make Believe and One Way Road as I think that we've heard the ones from the album.

Crazy to think soon Iβll have been an Oasis fan for 21 years. Even crazier to think this was my first Oasis album, Iβm probably in the minority with that.
I often think back to if I hadnβt been sat next to two lads in English class who for 3 months leading up to this album could talk about nothing else and how I said I was looking forward to it too, just to seem cool (when in reality I wasnβt really into music yet). So asked my mom for the album for my upcoming 14th birthday so at least I could half blag conversation. Well the rest they say is history

Let's All Make Believe surfaced a few years ago. Slightly sped up due to the tape I think. One Way Road there are at least two demos - an instrumental version in a higher key and a more normal one. Only clips have been heard of these.

OK, so this would have been a great ("hangover) album.
1. Let's All Make Believe 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love? 4. Revolution Song (Liam) 5. Where Did It All Go Wrong (Jools version)
6. Fuckin'In The Bushes 7. Gas Panic! 8. One Way Road 9. Full On (Liam) 10. Roll It Over

However, I think that I would still have Fuckin' In The Bushes as the opening track on the album and put Let's All Make Believe somewhere else in the list.

best PRODUCTION (in fact we're not gonna talk about production, we're not gonna talk about production at all)
21 years ago I was skipping class at 9.30break to go buy the album.

Crazy to think that this album is now 21 years old today. The way time goes it'll soon be 25 years old. I'm sure that Q magazine at the time gave the album a decent review.

Canβt believe itβs 21 years old - still remember buying it and liking the new direction but realising the days of Oasis being one of the biggest bands in the world were never coming back.

It was over the moment Noelβs guitar amp caught on fire down in Mexico during the final days of the BHN tour in 1998.

This has just reminded me that later on this year Oasis's live album, video and dvd of Familiar To Millions will also be 21 years old. I remember hearing the announcement about the release on the radio at the time.
