This album really does need some revisionist history - it's a damn good album.
It suffers the same way DOYS does - three clunkers amongst some of Noel's best material. And they had the tracks available to them that were either not released, or released as b-sides that would have propelled the album into being as good as their 90s counterparts.
I used to lump this album alongside Heathen Chemistry as Oasis' worst. But over the last decade, it now nicely nestles into Oasis' 5th best album, behind DM, WTSMG, BHN, and DOYS:
Definitely Maybe What's the Story Morning Glory Be Here Now Dig Out Your Soul Standing on the Shoulder of Giants Don't Believe the Truth Heathen Chemistry
Go Let It Out, Who Feels Love, Where Did It All Go Wrong, Gas Panic! Sunday Morning Call, and Roll It Over are all good songs in their own right - and before anyone pounces on SMC, its drabness fits the context of the track and is severely hurt by being directly after WDIAGW.
The three clunkers - Little James, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and I Can See A Liar should all have been replaced by the other tracks they held in their arsenal (namely Let's All Make Believe, Full On, Revolution Song, Carry Us All).
But even those three 'terrible' tracks have grown on me - Little James' innocence has a strong melody despite the silly lyrics in places, PYMWYMI is a driving song that with a little bit of work could have become a 'Columbia', and I Can See A Liar has good energy to it.
I love how SOTSOG is fittingly the hangover album from BHN. By the end of the 1990s, Oasis' appeal faded (until the revival of the DBTT era five years later). So by that token the album was passed over and never given a fair listen.
The ills that plague SOTSOG persisted in most the post-90s albums, but not living up to the prior three albums does not make this a bad album. So let's revive and revise what is actually a fairly decent album, and PICK UP YER FACE.

I do think its a grower of an album, the only issue for me is that its too short (should have had one way road/cigs in hell on it and lets all make believe as the final track imo). With the notorious PYMWYMI and ICSAL, i can understand why maybe the lyrics are an issue for many due to the great riffs (especially liar), but for me it would only take the adjustment of one of these songs (liar preferably) to sort it out, as i feel having one nonsensical oasis rocker (columbia, be here now) is fine, just one track to party to and not overthink. Love the album personally.

"PYMWYMI is a driving song that with a little bit of work could have become a 'Columbia'"
Yeah, and with "a little bit of work" Little James could have become the next Live Forever.

That record has grown on me recently, I love its psychedelic-ness. Maybe it lacks some massive tunes, but they actually did a great job with that album. My favourite track rn is PYMWYMI, especially Noel`s part.

Not a bad song on it. Where Did It All Go Wrong drags on but the rest of it is brilliant. My favourite OASIS album by far.

ever since the 28th feb 2000 this has been my favourite oasis album, now dont get me wrong there are way better songs on the previous releases that stand head and shoulders over this. As an era based collection of songs this is the best they done Roll it over is as good as champagne supernova to close the album with, Lets all make believe has one of the best liam vocals ever put on record and lyrically its fuckin amazing so whats not to like about that. apart from the chasing the sun collection this is the only album i have multiple copies of and will continue to buy infact today i got the japanese import from ebay for £2.33 from music magpie every fucker else sells this for a lot more so i got a right bargain. my top 5 oasis songs have 3 from this album that will never lose there placing,, i love this album more than the others even though like i said better songs preceed it there is just something special about it oh and the artwork is the best cover aswell my canvas which i got for my 40th from the kids

Also, Carry Us All is a brilliant song. One of Oasis' real hidden gems.
Maybe they should have made SMC a b-side to WDIAGW, and have Carry Us All somewhere in the album tracklist.
Phenomenal song, great lyrics too.

I love this album. It’s only behind Definitely Maybe in preference for me,
Fuckin in the Bushes, Go Let It Out, Who Feels Love?, Where Did It All Go Wrong? And Sunday Morning Call are all fantastic whereas Gas Panic and Roll It Over are absolute classics! Up there with the very, very best of Oasis. It sounds awesome, the lyrics are great, it has a mood and atmosphere no other Oasis album has. Yes, LAMB and Full On should be on the album but I actually think the three weaker tracks aren’t actually that bad. PYMWYMI is probably the weakest and still sounds like an unfinished demo but is it as bad as She is Love, PAITM or Nature of Reality? Not a chance for me. Little James is mostly decent, it has a few shit lyrics but which Oasis song hasn’t? The 2nd half of the song is great. ICSAL is actually a decent rocker. I would rather listen to this 10x than most of the drivel on HC or DBTT
Love it

Definitely Maybe it's the best album, but my favorite is SOTSOG. I love the sound, psychedelia, Liam's amazing voice and the look of the band of that period. the only song I do not like is Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is, too repetitive in the text, with a less repetitive text it would have been better. I especially love this album

It needed a couple more Liam sung, big Oasis anthem type songs for the radio, which would have helped the public take to it. Still a great album for me though.
It's weird to think that we're now probably less than 12 months away from an announcement for the SOTSOG reissue.

Not saying that as a negative but it was definitely eye opening. The vocals and production on ICSAL also do Liam and Oasis no favors.

There's not many great songs on there really, which is kinda what puts it down. Gas Panic aside.
There's just not many really great highs on SOTSOG, just good songs.
But HC, DBTT and DOYS definitely have a worse collection of lows than SOTSOG, barring Little James. I actually don't mind PYMWYMI or ICSAL. Sunday Morning Call is shit however.
DOYS has more great songs so I prefer that to SOTSOG but I definitely prefer it to HC and DBTT.

Always wished they took another year or two on it, songs like The Hindu Times and Stop Crying Your Heart Out would have helped it no end.

I like Little James. Don't get the hate for it.
I love Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. I would only change Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is for Full On, and I wish Noel rewrote the chorus of I Can See a Liar. Liam vocals are his best ever.
