The rattle at the beginning of TNOR reminds me of a warning from a rattlesnake: STEP THE FUCK BACK AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS DREADFUL MESS. Terrible track. Death rattle more like. Ironic really. If anything warranted Oasis splitting up, then it shouldn't have been the sad state of affairs between the Gallaghers, but that shitfest of a second half of an album with songs like that.

Sometimes all it takes is a couple of good songs for some people and the album is a complete masterpiece.

I recall 3 average to decent songs (the singles), 3 very average to below average songs (the first 3 on the album), and 5 of the most horrendous tracks ever committed to an album....ever!

People can complain about the album all they want but the tour was far far worse. Standing at a gig I was thinking to myself is this really the band I fell in love with. They had completely checked out in my opinion.
Of course there were good gigs and the songs in the set being so strong that the sheer quality of them shone through but for me it was all over and I was and still am okay with it.
Noel solo albums were great and although Beady Eye were average there was still some decent tunes among their work.
We have another Noel album on the way and Liam is getting ready to strike back.
Rock on.

There's nothing wrong with DOYS in the first place. Especially with those awesome bonus tracks. Fuckin solid album and one I always enjoy revisiting.

I was just about to come and post here that in my opinion DOYS has nothing to be forgiven. Like you said, it's a solid album and personally I like the sound and the vibe of it as a whole. Of course one could complain about the tracklisting but haven't we done alternative tracklistings for every Oasis album?

I like the alternative version but then they just chucked a Doors riff over it for no real gain on the album. If they had a proper Liam version of Come On Outside at number 3 then put the acoustic Waiting For The Rapture instead of High Horse, that immediately improves things.

I agree, something was rotten on that tour The myth of that Paris bust up is a joke; the band had disbanded way before The DBTT tour was great and the band seemed up for it by DOYS you could hear the boredom in their playing. Seeing them and hearing them was sad. I turned down a Wembley ticket which says it all

Stick them alongside the likes of Live Forever, Champagne Supernova, The Masterplan, Slide Away, Rock n Roll Star, DYKWIM, Some Might Say, etc. and they stand out like a very sore thumb.

The alternate version of Rapture is so much better than the album take.

Those are the best, then I'd say TBWTL is on a level just below then, High Horse Lady and Soldier On below that, and then Muffins and TNOR way way way way below that. TBWTL is not too bad of a song, while HHL and SO serves their purposes (interlude and closer) while being alright songs. Muffins and TNOR just fall on their faces.

It's just a bit of a drop in quality after Falling Down but it's still not as shit as the rest of the second half of the album. I don't see why you would give GOYHHL a pass just because it 'serves it's purpose' though. If it was less than 2 minutes long I would agree with you to an extent that it's just an interlude and doesn't really have very much significance within the album but the fact that it is 4 minutes long and consists of the same phrase being repeated over and over again with a shocking vocal take and a weird sound in the middle really gives you a reason to hate it. In my opinion it goes: Great Songs - TSOTL, BIU, TT, IOT, FD. Good Songs - WTFR, TBWTL. Average Songs - SO, AGN. Bad Songs - TNOR. Utter Shit Songs - GOYHHL.

Clearly I'm talking about the 90s output as a whole and not just those 7 all time classic songs. These 6 songs from DOYS are juat as good than the average 90s oasis track. Let's not forget that in the 90s oasis released Shakermaker as a single and released songs like Its Better People, I Will Believe and My Sister Lover.

I Will Believe is definitely better than WFTR, FD and BIU but probably not the rest. Shakermaker would be one of the highlights of DOYS had it been on there and would have most likely outshone the majority of the songs. My Sister Lover is a bit shit though, atrocious lyrics.

Shakermaker is one of their worst ever songs too. I'll give you that. It would sit happily alongside the rest of the songs on DOYS, because they are that bad. The other 3 B sides you mentioned are not brilliant, but had they been on DOYS, they would easily be the stand out tracks on the album. Which again proves how bad the album is overall.

I'll say it again, but I Will Believe is one of their best ever songs IMO. The Turning is a rare latter day attempt by Noel to write a classic Oasis tune with the chorus and guitar solo and I really like Liam's vocal.

Sometimes I forget how good Bag It Up and The Turning are. They are actual Oasis classics that are forgotten about due to A - the fact that they weren't ever played live and B - they are on a sub-standard album. If that first half of the album was an EP, it would have been the greatest EP of all time.
