They are just ok. Average at best. When you start comparing those first few tracks to Oasis albums gone by, and then you realise just how horrific DOYS really is. Rock n Roll Star, DYKWIM, My Big Mouth, Live Forever, Wonderwall, Go Let it Out, etc. And those first few tracks are probably the most solid consecutive run of tracks on DOYS. It really is a horrific album. Shocking! I'd go further and say comparing the songs to Lyla, Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Importance Of Being Idle, Songbird, Turn Up The Sun etc.. Even if we compare said that it was Oasis MK1 and Oasis MK2 it isn't even close in the MK2 battle as, as far as I'm concerned, isn't even recorded or produced as well as the other albums...Heathen Chemistry is way above DOYS for me. At least I can listen to Heathen Chemistry as a full album unlike DOYS! Loads of land mines all over HC. Watch your step!

I seriously don't get many people's problem with Heathen Chemistry, espically when compared to DOYS. At least Heathen Chemistry feels like an Oasis album unlike the god awful production and vocal effects that's on DOYS. It will always be my biggest let down as an Oasis fan. I became a fan proper in 2000 and when Heathen Chemistry came out I was excited and thrilled. I couldn't get enough of it when it came out and played it to death. When Don't Believe The Truth came out, I was just as excited and I played that to death just as much. When DOYS came out, I tried to play it to death but just couldn't. I remember that it was very quickly that I dropped the album as a whole and went to just playing Bag It Up, The Turning, Shock Of The Lightning, I'm Outta Time and Falling Down. Then it slowly dropped to just Shock and Falling Down and now I can't even listen to them.

The music is so roughly edited it sounds like a demo. In fact, that's what DOYS sounds like to me, a demo album. All the sounds have this demo effect to them that sound like the production wasn't actually finished and they went "oh well, that'll do" and moved onto the next song. The music sounds awful on Nature Of Reality also as well as To Be Where There's Life. This is my opinion of course but, whereas DOYS sounds like a demo album, Heathen Chemistry at least sounds like the finished product.

Studio version sounds like a disaster to my ears. Cool solo. Not much else happening. The released version is disgustingly awful. As he never played it live I don't know why he bothered putting it on the record. Simple Game of Genius would have been much better as a closer.

DOYS sounds very well produced to me. Love the little things going on in the songs and although it's heavily compressed, it sounds good. There's still some dynamic to it. HC in the other hand is terribly bland and dead.

The compression hell of The Hindu Times. Liam sounds like kermit. Force of Nature sounds like a demo. Hung In A Bad Place is generic bland rock.A Quick Peep..........enough said. (Probably) All in the Mind I've been trying to forget since 2002. Born on a Different Cloud has cool ideas but the recording was executed poorly. Better Man maybe should have tried to be a BETTER song.

I cannot really distinguish much difference between the way DM and WTS sounds, and how HC sounds. The songs on that album sound very much like 94 - 95 era. BHN has a louder sound - basically DM and WTS max'd up to 11. SOTSOG also has a different sound. DM and WTS watered down, less confident, less assured, more experimental - which I am not a massive fan of. HC sounds closer to 90's Oasis that any other album in the Mk 2 era, which is why I don't mind it. DBTT pushes into a new direction with its sound, which I can appreciate why the band did this, but again i am not a huge fan of. This is where I begin to lose interest with the band. DOYS - utter shambles. One ugly mess in production, and one ugly mess with the songs on the album. Just awful!

But Liam's voice and the production are far better on DOYS, And Liam's voice was much better live as well on the DOYS tour.

To Be Where There's Life has neither of these Ain't Got Nothing vs She Is Love - She Is Love...better lyrically and musically Nature of Reality vs Born On A Different Cloud - Born On A Different Cloud everytime Soldier On vs Better Man - Tie...both remind me of the other, that's how similiar they are. Not only did the HC era actually have b-sides, something DOYS lacked (no surprises there really considering how Noel couldn't be arsed with the band then)...but also, the production is better, in my mind, the setlist on the tour was MILES better and so was Liam's vocals

That is probably our faults as fans for doing that. To me it's an ok song. Not a classic Noel song by any means. I prefer the demo on the HFB blu ray. Studio version sounds like a disaster to my ears. Cool solo. Not much else happening. pretty much, dont think Ive ever read anyone here saying stop the clocks is amazing, think it was more that people thought it was amazing when it wasnt released because it was supposed to be the next champagne supernova with something like 3 guitar solos. never know what they were thinking to have that effect of Noel repeating "sound" over and over before the outro (which is actually quite decent), its just irritating and tacky, overall though I dont really hate it but its not all that memorable either, its just there.

Bag It Up Vs The Hindu Times - The Hindu Times EVERYTIME, to my ears it sounds clearer and more of a throwback to the mid 90's...a good old fashioned rock single The Turning vs Force Of Nature - Tie, both not exactly brilliantWaiting For The Rapture vs Hung In A Bad Place - Hung In A Bad Place everytime.. .the lyrics are better and it's a rocker...Waiting is a slow mid-tempo tune Noel has become very good at, in other words it's boring Shock Of The Lightning vs Stop Crying Your Heart Out - Tie..cannot split them..as good as each other I'm Outta Time vs Songbird - Songbird easily...I'm Outta Time always has sounded unfinished to me. The lyrics aren't brilliant and the music needs work High Horse Lady vs Little By Little - No contest...Little By Little everytime Falling Down vs A Quick Peep - Falling Down but in terms of album flow I feel A Quick Peep works rather well To Be Where There's Life vs (Probably) All In The Mind - (Probably) All In The Mind...the lyrics are better than what people claim and so is the music. To Be Where There's Life has neither of theseAin't Got Nothing vs She Is Love - She Is Love...better lyrically and musically Nature of Reality vs Born On A Different Cloud - Born On A Different Cloud everytime Soldier On vs Better Man - Tie...both remind me of the other, that's how similiar they are. Not only did the HC era actually have b-sides, something DOYS lacked (no surprises there really considering how Noel couldn't be arsed with the band then)...but also, the production is better, in my mind, the setlist on the tour was MILES better and so was Liam's vocals

Never rated DOYS (apart from Lightning which I love). I just find Noel's melodies and vocals on it depressing. Reminds me of when I went up to Aberdeen to see them, bleak trip.

It is a depressing album, far bleaker than SOTSOG, which is supposed to be there hangover album. I guess it reflected the state of Noel's mind and the band themselves at that time. If only they could have ended on a high, and a happy record like The Beatles did with Abbey Road. Soldier On has to be one of the bleakest tracks ever to close an album.

Been listening to it for 2 days now. Still love it. I still skip Ain't Got Nothing but that's pretty much it.

The rattle at the beginning of TNOR reminds me of a warning from a rattlesnake: STEP THE FUCK BACK AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS DREADFUL MESS.
Terrible track.
