I don't mind it. But that 30 seconds of someone walking on gravel at the end is a fucking scandal... It's Andy's favourite moment of the album. Bless him.

(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady fitting with the album's atmosphere is not a good enough reason for it to be on the album. It's shit. I don't mind it. But that 30 seconds of someone walking on gravel at the end is a fucking scandal... Best bit of the song for me and I'm not even joking, I really hate the song and the sound is kind of satisfying tbh.

I used to love this album a lot, and still do. But after discovering/rediscovering expansive works by The Verve, Sigur Ros, Primal Scream, Disco Inferno, DJ Shadow, and Bjork, I fail to see how DOYS can be considered in any way "experimental". Experimental for a bunch of luddites, perhaps.

I just cannot listen to this album anymore. I used to really love: Bag It Up The Turning Shock Of The Lightning I'm Outta Time Falling Down However, whenever I do try to listen to the album now, I struggle to even make it beyond The Turning. Every track for me is just below average to what Oasis had done. The opening three tracks do nothing for me, in fact, just like the rest of the album, it annoys me. I can't see how people can listen to this god awful mess of an album and an album that tries to be different for the sake of being different, yet slate Don't Believe The Truth or Heathen Chemistry. Both of which are no worse and, as far as I'm concerned, better as an actual album that Dig Out Your Soul. You ask, can we forgive the album. Yes we can but, the fact remains, to me, it's the worst Oasis album by a mile. I disagree DOYS is far better than Heathen Chemistry. HC is so bland and run of the mill.

I wish DOYS was better so we didn't have endless threads like this. I've probably given my alternate facts track listing 1,200 times since 2008. Now I'm tired and don't care.

I'm gonna go on the contrary and argue some of the tracks that people like from the first half of the album aren't actually very good. Namely BIU, TT and WFTR. I can't really stand any of the tracks after Falling Down, so this is probably my least favourite album. Again, when you have TBWTB at your disposal why would you put on total crap like every song past Falling Down.

And DOYS isn't bland or run of the mill? In my opinion, HC actually had some decent songs on it. Come to think of it, most songs on DOYS had a better version of it on HC. For me, DOYS has I'm Outta Time, The Shock of the Lightning and all the rest bore me. I think the "bad" songs on HC like (P)AITM are better than the rest of DOYS.

Gave this record a spin in the car last week sometime....
As soon as 'To Be Where There's Life' started I had to shut it off. Nothing after Falling Down can be considered a high point at all. And most of it is closer to complete crap than to average in my opinion.
That said... I threw on the Extra's disc with the alt versions of tracks and the like. Listened to the whole thing without a problem. It's sad frankly.

It's mostly awful.
Songs like To Be Where There's Life is an attempt at some sort of a psychedelic tune by somebody that hasn't got the creativity and far to musically conservative to do it, it's really bad.
The Nature Of Reality is absolutely terrible. If that's the best that Andy Bell had for the album, i'd hate to hear the others he had.
I actually don't mind Solider On and I'm Outta Time. Soldier On isn't great and could have been improved i think but i don't mind it. I'm Outta Time is a nice little song, hardly groundbreaking but nice all the same. The Shock of The Lightning and Falling Down are alright too.
The rest is rubbish.

If that's the best that Andy Bell had for the album, i'd hate to hear the others he had. to be fair, i'm pretty sure andy didn't even want it on the album in the first place. IIRC it was a private song he had written for his wife. but when noel heard it he insisted it be included. again, someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong about that.

Nature of Reality was part of a 5 song tape Andy gave to Noel. It was the last song on the tape cause he considered it the worst. Noel picked it cause it "fit" the album. Other songs rumoured to be on there I believe included Millionaire and 4 Letter Word but not sure about that.

Edit if what @idlerdreamer is right then 4LW couldnt be part of the tape, who writes a breakup song before the breakup? 😂

As I've said many times DOYS should have been a 5 or 6 track EP or they should have spent more time and made sure the final 3/4 songs were of a proper standard.
It was totally taking the piss out of the fans putting it out as it is, and I can't help but think they just finished it in a rush to begin the tour asap and cash in on the fans. Maybe Noel knew the breakup was on the cards and wanted to get one last mega paycheque?
Those last 3 songs are dreadful in comparison to the first half. Its a real shame as they could have really gone out with a bang.

If I'm not mistaken, Noel wouldn't include "Millionaire" because he couldn't stand the line "you just need to know yourself".

I genuinely really like Millionaire, its one of the few Beady Eye tracks that I go back to from time to time. It would have definitely improved DOYS by replacing one of the last few tracks, it shits on TNOR from a great height.

Soldier On is GREAT. I get it if you don't agree with that, but I simply can't understand how you could hate it.

Soldier On is GREAT. I get it if you don't agree with that, but I simply can't understand how you could hate it. Decent enough song but not worthy as a closer on an oasis album. It was only after the band split that in hindsight it seemed very fitting and prophetic. I'd say its actually a pretty average tune tbh. 7/10 at best.

Not a big fan of that song cause it reminds me of Rockstar by Nickleback. Either way, The Beat Goes On, Millionaire and Four Letter Word are miles better than the other two.

Was 16 when it came out. Got into oasis like 2 years before that, it was my first new release and I probably played it at least once every day for a good 18 months. I love it but I don't think I can rate it objectively, it was HUGE to me, the first music related thing that I anticipated and shared a pre release period on a forum (inet, sadly). I think it's the first album I went out of my way to go out and buy on the day of release iirc as well.
I think 9 of the songs are great, I love the atmosphere, little flourishes of sound every now and again, the interludes and Liam's deeper, more processed sounding voice all really got me hooked at the time. For a few years i considered it a solid 9 out of 10. It's probably still an 8/10 in my world.
No release since then has been quite as exciting and full of promise and mystique for me. That was also the first tour I saw them play. I'm always going to over rate it to be honest, even now I still find myself enjoying it immensely even if I only give it a spin once a month or so.
