As far as negatives go for DOYS the issue in regards to which songs were left off the album stands out to me as the only topic with any real weight to it. Nothing else bothers me in the slightest.
'The Shock of the Lightning' and 'Falling Down' are first class additions to the Oasis cannon, 'Bag It Up', 'The Turning', 'Waiting for the Rapture', 'I'm Outta Time' and 'To Be Where There is Life' are all great album tracks with the latter two being possibly Liam and Gem's strongest ever tracks and '(GOY)HHL', 'Ain't Got Nothin'', 'The Nature of Reality' and 'Soldier On' and all underrated as far as I'm concerned. Dave Sardy does a pretty good job and the album artwork is excellent. There is no excuse to exclude 'Come on Outside' & 'Record Machine' (possibly amongst others) but it's an all round good job and big thumbs up from me.

I still listen to it once in a while. One of my favourites actually. I usually skip everything after To Be Where There's Life though.

It's an utterly shit album. The 3 singles are the only redeeming tracks. The rest of it is pure garbage. And some of the poorer songs are as bad as it gets. Probably some of the worst songs ever written.
No, sorry. I cannot forgive Noel for this piece of stinking pile of horse manure. After I have endured listening to this album on very brief occasions, I urgently need to stick on 90's Oasis immediately afterwards, to cleanse my soul and remind myself why I actually love Oasis.
DOYS makes HC sound like a masterpiece - and that is saying something!

Shock of the Lighning, The Turning, Falling Down are great. Bag it Up is terribly recorded and has lost a lot of shine. To Be Where Theres Life is ok. The rest isn't very good IMO.

Love The Turning.
TSOTL and FD are pretty good.
IOT and BIU are quite good.
Apart from that, the other songs are write offs to me.

If I'm not mistaken, Noel wouldn't include "Millionaire" because he couldn't stand the line "you just need to know yourself". The line is not exactly a clanger. I can think of much worse by Noel. Lyrics about Salvador Dali and the nature of reality are a bit deep for Oasis. If it's true that Four Letter Word was around back then and wasn't chosen, it's a crime. Come On It's Alright, Record Machine, Boy With The Blues, an electric version of To Be Where There's Life, Rapture acoustic and Boy With The Blues and it's easily a much better album.

Bag It Up - 8.5/10 The Turning - 8/10 Waiting For The Rapture - 7/10 The Shock Of The Lightning - 9/10 I'm Outta Time - 8.5/10 (Get Of Your) High Horse Lady - 5.5/10 Falling Down - 8/10 Ain't Got Nothin' - 6/10 To Be Where There's Life - 7.5/10 The Nature Of Reality - 6/10 Soldier On - 7.5/10
Really great album I think, I don't dislike any songs on there, the second half is definitely the weakest part but I don't share the same opinions as most on The Nature Of Reality being the worst thing they've ever heard, think it's a bit of an over reaction, the lyrics are nonsense but I actually quite like the sound of it and it's a great vocal by Liam.
Now it wouldn't be a DOYS thread without an alternative tracklisting. It still makes me angry to this day that we didn't get something like this..
1. Bag It Up 2. The Turning 3. Come On, It's Alright! (Liam vocals) 4. The Shock Of The Lightning 5. I'm Outta Time 6. Record Machine (Liam and Noel vocals) 7. Falling Down 8. Lord Don't Slow Me Down (Liam vocals) - Saved for the release of DOYS rather than using it for the doc. 9. The Boy With The Blues 10. Stop The Clocks (Liam vocals)
B-Sides
Soldier On To Be Where There's Life Waiting For The Rapture I Believe In All
What a monster album of an album that would of been, such a missed opportunity.

That listing would definitely improve the album, although it is a little unrealistic, because some of those songs weren't even recorded at that time. And its those songs from NGHFB that are actually the strongest. The B sides are just a marginal improvement over the current dross on the album, which shows the dire situation Oasis were in at that time. Even the B sides weren't really up to scratch. Swapping those tracks to B sides, and you have the worst collection of B sides Oasis ever produced.

Stop The Clocks had been on early versions of DBTT, I'm pretty sure there was a Liam version of Record Machine that was 10 minutes long or something from around the same era, plus along with Come On It's Alright was just missing a vocal for this album. edit: I guess the thing stopping them doing that album is the writing quota they insisted on and a silly falling out over Liam's wedding

When you start comparing those first few tracks to Oasis albums gone by, and then you realise just how horrific DOYS really is. Rock n Roll Star, DYKWIM, My Big Mouth, Live Forever, Wonderwall, Go Let it Out, etc. And those first few tracks are probably the most solid consecutive run of tracks on DOYS. It really is a horrific album. Shocking!

Never understood why people like Stop The Clocks so much. It always seemed like a poor attempt to write Looking Glass by The La's, which can never really be matched really.

Do people really like Stop The Clocks? I feel like popular opinion around these parts is the over hype Noel did to this song between 2001 and 2008 made it almost impossible to live up to the hype. That is probably our faults as fans for doing that. To me it's an ok song. Not a classic Noel song by any means. I prefer the demo on the HFB blu ray. Studio version sounds like a disaster to my ears. Cool solo. Not much else happening.

Even if we compare said that it was Oasis MK1 and Oasis MK2 it isn't even close in the MK2 battle as, as far as I'm concerned, isn't even recorded or produced as well as the other albums...Heathen Chemistry is way above DOYS for me. At least I can listen to Heathen Chemistry as a full album unlike DOYS!
