^ I'm only a casual fan of Nick Cave, but I'd definitely throw Red Right Hand in there. "Hey I guess they're right. Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. Don't you go dying on me!"

I like about 10 songs of theirs, and in chronological order that might be a pretty good playlist Psycho Killer Don't Worry About The Government (not really a big fan of this, but it's somewhat hilarious which makes it worth a listen) Artists Only Take Me To The River The Big Country Life During Wartime Heaven Drugs (this is basically just because of the instrumentals, which are phenomenal) Born Under Punches The Great Curve (my personal favorite) Once In A Lifetime Burning Down The House This Must Be The Place Road To Nowhere Enjoy!

Pulp and Manic Street Preachers (excluding Common People and If You Tolerate This, Motorcycle Emptiness). Preferably in order of release, since I always find it interesting to see the progression.

Great thing about the Manics is I completely agree with the above playlist but there’s also tons of other stuff which is pure quality (Condemed To Rock n Roll, Archive of Pain, Removables, My Little Empire)
If you decide to get into the Manics properly you won’t regret it,
What is incredible is how their first four albums all sounded completely different to one another, you’d think they were different bands if it wasn’t for his distinctive singing

International Blue I'm going to have to work my way through this playlist. I heard Everything Must Go and loved it, with "No Surface all Feeling" being my favourite. I had no idea they had so many albums. What would you rank as their top 5 albums?

I love all their albums apart from 2004’s Lifeblood but like most bands a great place to start is the beginning
Generation Terrorists is longer than Be Here Now, covers Hard Rock, Punk, Industrial as well as just great pop songs. A very ambitious debut to say the least.
Gold Against the Soul is probably my least favourite 90’s album as they lose their identity a little a go a bit US Grunge. Still has really great songs though and well worth a listen
Holy Bible is my personal favourite but it’s dark and bleak. There’s a far bigger contrast between this and its follow up ‘Everything Must Go’ than BHN and SOTSOG. A must listen.
A Plague for Journal Lovers is my favourite 00’s album but like I say they’re all 8/10 or above but the first 4/5 should probably be where you start
Top 5 would be The Holy Bible Generation Terrorist Everything Must Go Journal for Plague Lovers This is My Truth Tell Me Yours

From the top of my head
The Holy Bible Everything Must Go Journal For Plague Lovers Futurology Generation Terrorists
But yeah listen to all of them eventually, there's always some good songs on every album even if some are a bit hit-and-miss.

While we're talking Manics, I've gotta say, Nicky Wire really brought it on This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. I think it's his best album, lyrically. When it was most needed, too, as the first album not to use any of Richey's writings, and the follow up to Everything Must Go.
Love this verse from 'Black Dog on My Shoulder':

OK, now that i've had the chance to listen my way through the 90s albums I can give some sort of verdict. I like what I've heard, though Everything Must Go is still definitely my favourite of their albums.
Generation Terrorist was surprisingly more late 80s sounding, like GunsnRoses almost, than I expected. Motorcycle Emptiness and NatWest Barclays Midlands Lloyds stood out as the ones I wanted to listen to again. It is definitely a very ambitous debut (18 tracks? Bold) and is like BHN in that its quite a heavy listen to digest.
Gold Against the Soul has a Nirvana grungy vibe more than the last one, its okay, nothing bad at all but nothing really grabs me either. It's one I must come back to later. From Despair to Where is the best on here IMO, but lots of good guitar riffs.
The Holy Bible has a great sound (listened to the US mix apparently, from Youtube). Very dark themes lyrically. I think some reviewer described it as the sound of an individual in a tight-knit group of friends who is fading away and dying with self loathing as no one notices. It does make for a good concept for an album. I liked If White America..., Faster, and This is Yesterday. Warrants further listening.
This Is My Truth is interesting in that the big songs (apart from If You Tolerate This...) don't do anything for me. But You're Tender and Tired, Born a Girl, Nobody Loved You and Black Dog are the songs I really love. This album is split 50/50 almost, into really quite good and decent but nothing too special. I still blame Richard Ashcroft for putting me off strings.
Next up is Know Your Enemy...will let you know once I get there.

Ok Manics update: I really didn't expect to be impressed much with Know Your Enemy, but wow - it might just be my favourite yet. It's definitely got a BHN thing going on at 73 mins and 16 tracks, but they're all (what I've heard anyways, which is 12 of those) very good. They've got the blast of punk fury they do so well, and as a politically inclined band they make a steady impression here. I think stripped down a bit to 12-14 songs, it might be equal or greater to Everything Must Go.
Best tracks for me: Found that soul My guernica Freedom of speech won't feed my children Ocean Spray
It seems a lot of fans love the Ritchie era material but personally I like the post-Ritchie albums more. THB is great (songs and concept) but it's not an album id find myself returning to as often as the ones that came after.
Next is Lifeblood isn't it?

International Blue Okay, after a year and a bit of enjoying the Manics, here’s my top 25 Motorcycle emptiness From despair to where Yes Faster This is yesterday All surface no feeling A design for life Removables Blackpool pier/Elvis impersonator If you tolerate this... You stole the sun from my heart Born a girl Intravenous agnostic My guernica Freedom of speech won’t feed my children Send away the tigers Me and Stephen hawking All is vanity Jackie Collins existential question This sullen welsh heart Rewind the film International blue Liverpool revisited Hold me like a heaven My favourite albums are Everything Must Go, know your enemy, journal for plague lovers, resistance is futile, and this is my truth. (Holy bible is next! It is a good album but it’s harder for me to get into it as much as everyone else, apart from the few tracks here)

Have you mkoasis heard the non album singles like Motown Junk, You Love Us(Heavenly version), Suicide Alley and The Masses Against the Classes and There by the Grace of God? There are some great songs in there that should've made the cut for albums.

That’s one I’ve not heard yet. Motown Junk and There By The Grace of God is, the other version of You Love Us has real drums from Sean and Suicide Alley is the first manics' single. God Save The Manics is an ep that features someleftover tracks from the Lifeblood sessions(which could/should've been the third single from that album).
