As suggested by The Escapist. This is the thread in which you ask for a playlist intended to introduce you to a band you'd like to get into. Personally, one band that I'd like to know a bit better is The White Stripes. They're apparently quite popular among indie audiences where I live. If anyone would make a playlist for me, that'd be great!

I second The White Stripes, and also suggest The Libertines.

Hmm... Do I simply list my favourites? Do I make a 'Best Of'? Should I simply list those I think are the most instantaneous? Honestly, I'm not to sure but here's something which is a bit of all three. Check it out and anyone else who wants to add to it/mock it feel free! There's plenty of depth in The White Stripes catalogue so I'm sure some others could come up with very different lists but here's my effort: The White Stripes
1) Dead Leaves On The Dirty Ground 2) Hotel Yorba 3) Blue Orchid 4) Icky Thump 5) Fell In Love With A Girl 6) My Doorbell 7) We're Going To Be Friends 8) Seven Nation Army 9) The Hardest Button To Button 10) Ball And Biscuit 11) The Denial Twist 12) You've Got Her In Your Pocket 13) I'm Slowly Turning Into You I personally didn't find the first two records a great place to start (hence the absence of material from that period) but if you want something rawer and bluesier give them a go. Edit:
Here's a Youtube playlist cos I'm nice n' all: THE WHITE STRIPES

Damn, I'm a Pixies freak (easily my favourite band) so I reckon I ought to give this one a go too. The tracklist would be best described as mix of their most popular tracks/the ones I think are their most accessible and instantaneous. I could quite easily double the length of this list or cator it to different strokes but this is a pretty good general one. Pixies 1) Debaser 2) Gigantic [Album version] 3) Tame 4) Wave Of Mutilation5) Velouria 6) Monkey Gone To Heaven 7) Umass8) Here Comes Your Man 9) Where Is My Mind10) Subbacultcha11) Isla De Encanta 12) Planet Of Sound 13) Alec Eiffel 14) Dig For Fire 15) Hey16) Gouge Away
Will happily follow it up given any requests. Edit:Youtube playlist: PIXIES

I'd be up for an Arcade Fire, The Smiths or LCD Soundsystem list if anyone feels up to the challenge?

What about a Suede playlist? I've only heard a few odd songs by them.

That's a banging Smiths list, but I'd switch out Reel Around The Fountain for Last Night I Dreamt... and Ask for The Headmaster Ritual. theyknowwhatimean, shoot me a Bowie playlist! I only known the most well known tunes and Station to Station. I'll take a Happy Mondays and Primal Scream one as well.

How great is the Aladdin Sane Album by Bowie?
Edit: Just to clarify, that's a rhetorical question. I've been listening to this nonstop for the last couple of days!

Headmaster Ritual is already on there. Well I'd replace Ask with Unhappy Birthday then (more Strangeways tunes!) Also Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now should be there Ask is my favorite Smiths song. And we could expand the list to 20 or 30 songs, but it is just an introductory playlist.

The Width Of A Circle 2. Black Country Rock 3. Queen Bitch 4. Quicksand 5. Oh! You Pretty Things 6. Moonage Daydream 7. Ziggy Stardust 8. Suffragette City 9. Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?) 10. The Jean Genie 11. 1984 12. Young Americans 13. Sound And Vision 14. Black Out 15. Fantastic Voyage 16. Ashes To Ashes 17. This Is Not America [w/ The Pat Metheny Group] (single, 1985) 18. Absolute Beginners (from Absolute Beginners: The Motion Picture Soundtrack, 1986) 19. Rock & Roll Suicide Does come out at nearly an hour and a half, but it's just so difficult with Bowie - literally EVERYTHING he did from 1970-1983 was great!

1. State of Grace 2. Red 3. Blank Space 4. Love Story 5. Mine 6. Style 7. I Knew You Were Trouble 8. All Too Well 9. 22 10. Wildest Dreams 11. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together 12. Shake It Off 13. New Romantics All great songs. That leans more heavily on her latest two albums but I think almost everyone agrees they're a big jump up in quality to the first three. I'm sure Lennon2217 will have more suggestions though!
