Long time listener, first time caller.........firstly, I think this song is awesome, and yep especially because I was a little lukewarm on AFO.

But apart from the vibe, I've always had an interest in the lyrics of the songs, especially after finding out the debut album was actually a story from start to finish. For me that's an essential part of the bands appeal.

Some commentary on the lyrics so far on here, mainly suggestions that make sense on the barb at John, or Liam, or the ex. All possibilities from a certain angle, but the most solid is that this is a specific anti-media manifesto. All of the lyrics when read as directed toward the mainstream media make sense (instead of only certain verses) - and anyway John and Ian have kissed and made up.

'Sista must've missed ya' to my ears is actually saying 'you've been overlooked', like a bad egg analogy. If you consider that the band split up as a way to avoid becoming just more fodder for the media to slowly destroy (and to avoid the fame game), and also that the reformation is ENTIRELY on their terms, the lyrics cohere into a consistent attack on the media. One of the most interesting aspects of the releases is the method of promotion and how the band are not using any media directly, apart from social media and their own channels. That also explains IMHO the austerity of the cover art, which doesn't attempt any 'hip' click bait exploitation.

"I'll have to say bye bye It's a Beautiful Thing" is Ian saying the band are not reliant on the soul sucking, addiction based, click bait, sour earth, 'so hip', sychophantic, two faced, narcissistic, hypocritical, naval gazing, secretive manipulation of the media power. It's no mean feat for a band to have achieved such freedom on their terms - to me that's inspiring.
