Haven't heard of her. I just hope it's not some usual whispering faux-emotive very slow piano / acoustic cover with not even remote hint of life or nuance of original tune. Swear those type of covers are like a plague in general cover versions these days and of last 10 years. Who could've guessed eh? Hah yeh no surprises. Exactly as thought would be. Am so sick of covers done in this type of way.

Okay. I cried a little bit. Good exposure anyway, Aurora's version is #16 in the UK right now on iTunes, Oasis' #49, Time Flies is up at #63 (+59 positions in the last 24 hours). Half the World Away never spent a single day in the Top 200 on iTunes UK. Oh cool! Good to see it in the iTunes charts, didn't expect they would go that high though! It's #13 now Oasis' #43

So John Lewis Christmas Ads are like, a big thing? Genuinely didn't know that.
Anyway, I thought it was good effort and it the perfect song for it. The cover itself was pretty boring but what do you expect?

My mom heard it on the radio this morning. This means it's getting airplay. Which means this could be the first Oasis related song in our top40 since 1997 or something.

Hate the bits where she changes the melody. Why do people do that? it's called a cover. Sometimes people change the melody of the original song to fit their way of singing and their music genre. Otherwise it would be called a karaoke version.

Noel Gallagher be like: ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ isnt this for charity? I would assume that John Lewis' profit portion goes to charity. But I think they are required to give Noel his songwriting royalty regardless unless he agreed to give his portion to charity as well. Might be that that is the case...perhaps they only pick songs if the songwriters are willing to donate the song. But regardless. Oasis' version is also selling better on iTunes than it probably ever has and that's money in pocket. Plus Times Flies has experienced a bump. Even if he makes nothing on the commercial he's still making money because of it.

John Lewis is raising awareness in their shops, and selling stuff where proceeds go to the charity. The song isn't a charity song so *kerching* www.theguardian.com/media/2015/nov/06/john-lewis-christmas-advert-age-uk

I think it's an ok cover, but she doesn't own it, in the way Ryan Adams makes wonderwall his own. Maybe after a few more listens I will change my mind. I think I read somewhere that the artists who sings these tracks usually don't have any input on how the rest of the cover (the instrumental part) is gonna be. Usually they sing to a already recorded demo/instrumental track, which gives them limited possibilities to make the song their own.

Pretty big thing for a girl born as late as in 1996, who haven't even released a full LP yet. Just to do a little "advertising" for norwegian music, if anyone is interested in listening more to Aurora, this is perhaps her most known song so far: https%3A//soundcloud.com/auroraaksnes/runawaysingle

Does her own thing, not manufactured either. It's easy to slate anyone who does a cover of a popular song as an X Factor wannabe but she's way way more credible than a lot of the Twitter Oasis fanboys give her credit for.

She's cool. Saw some footage of her when she was on Best Kept Secret. Strange girl. She's still very young too, 19.
Still have to watch this, only saw the "unedited version" and until the part where we all died I thought it was real (blame 2 hours of sleep and a rough day at work). I don't think the cover is horrible. It doesn't sound fantastic, but it's good enough.

Okay I have now watched it. I love it. I didn't cry. No. I swear. *wipes away a tear*
Anyway, if you actually hear the song in context with the video, it becomes better.

I think this ad was really nice, the whole concept of some old people being alone at christmas and him being isolated on the moon was really poetic. the song is a perfect fit, think its great cover, like others have said she didnt really make it her own per say but it didnt need to be changed much, I assumed it would be just a slower version overall and thats what it is. job well done as far as Im concerned.

Maybe I'm just a cold hearted bastard but I find it impossible to get emotional watching an advert.
As for the cover, it's pleasant, inoffensive and a tad dull. However, it's a far better effort than 'Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want' from a couple of years ago. Good exposure for Oasis as well.

www.nme.com/news/nme/89547Aurora added that her version of 'Half The World Away' is "more me" given that it is slower and "sounds a bit more sad." She added, "It's a beautiful song. The lyrics are very good, so I thought, 'This is something I can sing; I can stand for these words because they're beautiful words.'"

Is that another way of the new artist saying "I grew up on Katie Melua and have heard of Ellie Goulding?" In fairness to the girl it isn't the worst of the John Lewis covers by a long stretch
