Just nipped out on my dinner at work and it came on XFM, it's fair to say it works on the radio, it sounded absolutely mega. Not sure if people aware but for the radio edit a chunk of the outro is sliced off + I think there is one less 'I'll find you' midway through the song, just before Marr's little piece of genius.
I've got a feeling this is going to be his biggest solo hit yet, after it was played the DJ read out some listener reactions and it would pretty much unanimously great. Well done Noel.

I wish Noel had produced the first record himself like this one.

I'm really digging the backing vocals. Very clever.

I'm listening to it while driving; definitely a road song.
I wouldn't recommend posting while driving, you know, because it's dangerous and most of you lack opposable thumbs, anyway.
God bless.

I really like it now, the radio edit I heard first time butchered it really like it does with most songs, but I can imagine it closing the album well. I think it's a bit of an odd choice of single though as he'd sort of done the disco single last time round as well, and the album sounds like it has lots of different styles to it that he could show off. I think it's a solid 8 compared to Heat of the Moment which was a 7. I much prefer these two songs to the first album which was a bit of a dirge.

My only problem with ITHOTM was the annoying background singer.. once I got past it, I think the song's great.
Still having problems getting passed the hollies 'bus stop' melody... but enjoying the sound.
Both songs are growers.. which is not necessarily a bad thing. I'm getting really excited for the album now.
One thing is for sure both these songs will sound AMAZING live!

Did anybody recognize the similarity with The Hollies "Bus Stop"?

his is the point I just don't get, cause it's easily the most mature song Noel has written in ages. The constant key changes, the way the melody twists and turns, rising up and down until arriving at that soaring chorus. Everything is deceptively simple on the surface yet quite complex when you look into it. And still catchy as fuck. That's the kind of thing that made The Beatles great in my opinion. And I didn't even mention the arrangement. I agree to 100%. The part I love the most is when the song rises towards the last chorus (and the last guitar part after it) after the solo - a little like the break in Record Machine or the middle part of EOTR, only even better. I'm really digging Marr's bit at the end more and more. That too - Marr's guitar style has always been rather subtle, especially when compared to other guitar greats. I personally didn't fully appreciate the guitar in most Smiths songs until after a dozen or so listens; same here.

Did anybody recognize the similarity with The Hollies "Bus Stop"? Funny thing is... the Hollies ripped that melody off of the Beatles.. Nothing is original.

Don't really hear the Bus Stop thing but never noticed that one sounds so much like Things We Said Today!

I'm really digging Marr's bit at the end more and more. I wonder if Marr was listening to the outro of Thank You For The Good Times.

Noel fans most of the time say: beady eye : repetive melodies. beady eye : no chorus. beady eye : crap lyrics. beady eye : sometimes good songs but not great. beady eye : songs sound like something else. NOW lets talk about "Ballad Of The Mighty I" ... verdict?====> according to Noel fans the "Ballad Of The Mighty I" ...= A very BeADy Eye. thats what i call real justice... if you know what i mean... ...................... my opinion about the song later.i have to give it time to grow.

Sorry, I don't want to start another shitty Noel VS Beady Eye thread, but... Noel fans most of the time say: beady eye : repetive melodies. Nothing wrong with that, if I get what you're saying. Oasis never had "complex" song structures either. Again, do songs really need a strong chorus that thousands of people can shout in a stadium? I have no problems listening to songs without a strong chorus. Unfortunately true most of the time, IMHO. It's not the case for Mighty I though, it has some of the best Noel lyrics in years (again, IMHO) beady eye : sometimes good songs but not great. Sadly true (and again, IMHO). They had some very, very good tracks, especially on BE. That one was a very solid album. But great tracks? Mhh, not sure (and by "great" I mean tracks which can stand up there among Oasis "great" tracks) beady eye : songs sound like something else. On BE, yes, and they sound awesome. Very polished, great production, a lot of things going on in the background, nice atmospheric intros and outros. I really love the sound of it. DGSS really didn't sound any different from any pseudo-'60s rock 'n roll album. And there's nothing wrong with that, it just isn't my cup of tea... NOW lets talk about "Ballad Of The Mighty I" ... verdict?====> according to Noel fans the "Ballad Of The Mighty I" ...= A very BeADy Eye. thats what i call real justice... if you know what i mean... From some point of view it could be true: it certainly sounds different from the usual Noel stuff (exactly as BE sounded different) and there's a lot going on in the background (again, BE comes to mind). The similarities stop here, though. Again, all IMHO

I have come to appreciate this a little more now. I still think as a stand alone song, it's nothing special, but I can see it fitting in nicely with the rest of the album. I just wish it had a proper chorus or something to round it out. Every time I get done listening, I'm left wishing there was more to it.

well my interpretation, chasing yesterday as in finding ourselves now (in the past) the song seems to be written as a calling from liam, to noel anyway, seeing as this is the last moment before they do in fact find themselves surely fitting as the closing track

Okay I've only played it a 10 times of so. It definitely has "grower" vibes written all over it. I really like the sound and vibe of it. It all bends around Noel's song very nicely.
I really like the intro. the drums are crisp and the bass bounces to a nice groove. The melodic shift/build is unexpected but is a really nice set up to the chorus. The chorus obviously isn't overly catchy but the melody is pretty solid. Not great but good. My favorite parts of the song are the first guitar interlude and the guitar solo. The solo gave me 007 vibes, which is always a good thing. Marr's previous work with Noel was relatively lack luster (HC) but this came out pretty good. His work in the outro is sublime. One of the highlights of the song He really adds some nice textures the song. Would love to hear more from Marr and Noel.
It is a cryptic and shifting song. A lot of tied up into to but it never feels over done. On this song Noel's honestly flexes his songwriting skills, and that's the most exciting part about it. Overall i think its good probably will grow on me a little more as I play it and I'm looking forward to hearing it in context of the album.

'Good' , just like ITHOTM. Feels like we could be in for another HFB - good songs but no real bonafide classics (imo of course). If Riverman doesn't blow me away, after all the praise Noel has heaped on it, then just the slightest twinge of worry might just start to set in for me I think. Still, after two singles last time we already had one clunker (If I Had A Gun) so two songs that are just good and not great isn't the end of the world.
