Don't put words I never said in my mouth, please. Arctic Monkeys are my 2nd favourite act ever, so... Are they mainstream? Honestly, I don't really think so. Maybe in UK, but if you go out in the street I don't know how many people would tell you they know who they are. But that's not the point. Let's say AM are mainstream, but they are the only ones. And they changed their style to get there (and don't get me wrong, I like AM). The fact - because it's a fact - is that Catfish and the Bottlemen are one of the biggest new coming bands in UK. That's because they have an album that is still on the chart after 57 weeks and they're getting new fans everyday. The album is also a Gold disc and their tour sold out in minutes. How many debuting guitar music bands achieved this after 2010? Royal Blood, The 1975, who else? I still think the fact that they have haters is actually good. The quality of the songs is not that great, we all know that. It's not something new, it's not original, it's not fucki** psychedelic space jazz with shades of synthwhatever (oh god the critics would die for this) but it's rock, or pop\rock, straight forward music for "people who want to have a great time after 5 days at work". Nobody said they are Pink Floyd, nobody said they are The Rolling Stones. Usually I leave it at that. I mean, why bother? I think the band attracts a lot of 'haters' due to a number of good reasons, one of which being the large fan base the band has quickly amassed in their very short (and arguably fruitless) careers. It's nice to see people achieve success but when so many great bands pump album after album of quality material and still receive less than a tenth of what Catfish & the Bottlemen are amassing, the world seems just that bit more unjust and monotonous than you thought before. Also when looking and listening to the band you can't help but feel as if the band agenda is to appeal to as wide of an audience as can possibly be achieved by an indie band. When calculated commerciality outways an artist's songwriting output can they be considered a serious music vehicle or are they just an empty carcass pretending to be a serious music vehicle? Leather jackets and guitars at the ready I'm sure they'll convince a field or two. Record label investment? At least 2 catchy songs? What kind of aspirations are these? Why are people trying to make up excuses for them? The first answer is an opinion. You don't like them, I do. This should end here, but that's it. I'm sick of repeating the same with, with the same answer all over. Music sometimes can go over complicated songs, you know? Also they formed the band in 2007, they did in the hard way. Nobody took them and decided they had to be famous. If other bands can't make it's their own business. They could be The Strokes wannabes, or whatever, but I'm sick of Tame Impala wannabes as well. With Record label investment and catchy songs I'm clearly talking about commercial success, or at least in the guitar world area because they'll never be mainstream just like the majority of rock bands. Somebody told they'll disappear, well, it depends. It won't be because they play something somebody else already did, or we would have 3 active artists in the world. If they'll disappear it'll be because their new songs won't be good (or commercially good anyway) and their label will stop to spend money for them because of that. Give them 2 singles as catchy as Kathleen and Cocoon for their first two singles from their 2nd album, a great promotion, and let's see what happens. Maybe they have something better, who knows? Who can tell that? And yet again, the fact that there are obsessed haters out there it's bloody good for them.

I'm probably one of the only few people who don't think they're catchy. Have heard a few of their songs, and some multiple times as they've been on the radio, but I can't remember what any of them sound like. Not even a riff.

Who can tell that? I just thought one or two points you were raising were a little unusual or coming from some trivial angles. I think the band's lack of originality is plain for all to see, but as one of the more active fans of the band I thought it was interesting that you would state " The quality of the songs are not that great" something which I'm presuming is referring to the songwriting and not production, mix or the band's performance. As a positive talking point, again, this is pretty bottom of the barrel and as someone who owns probably just over 10 of their songs and openly questions the quality of at least some, I think obsessed lovers might be a more grounded talking point.

"The quality of the songs are not that great". Besides grammar (...) I mean that I know their songs aren't nothing special or new (and I was referring to the production as well), and at the begging I didn't like them, just look at page 1, or page 2. That phrase, I could use it for Chasing Yesterday as well. But I still love the album. But music can go over that, when I listen to their songs I feel something, that's it. Probably because I am 21 and I can relate to that easily, but it's not only a matter of age. If I have to give to The Balcony an objective grade between 1 - 10 I would give it a 6.5. And honestly, I would give to Chasing Yesterday a 6.5/7 as well. But it's still my favourite LP of the year. I'm defending the fact that you don't need to be perfect, I think they have something better than perfection, something special. That's what I think. - About the catchy discussion: facts prove they're one of the catchiest new british rock bands, if catchy means catching the attention of people.

Has Van got one of those caps Liam and Noel used to wear for a bit in the nineties?

Of course that later influenced Noel and Liam in 1997.

That's Bondy, the guitarist, he always wear that hat. I think it never seen the washing machine I'm not a fan of Dave Sardy either, according to Van on a song called Oxygen they sound like "The Kinks covered by The Queens of Stone Age" thanks to him. That's something Noel would say and he had the same producer, Dave Sardy is the devil
