Still can't get into these guys. I've heard the previews on iTunes. Listened to a couple of tunes on YouTube. Doesn't move the needle for me.

80/100 from Q Magazine as well
The whole album grew on me but not Outside. Actually that one is almost disappointing for its potential. It sounds like ready to explode but then the chorus is really bad.
Lyrics are a step down (but that's more like personal preferences) although Red is cool. The real stand out is guitarist Bondy who didn't feature on the debut. He did a great work, really cool solos.(the one on Oxygen sounds like a bloody sax plugged into a distorted pedal)
Generally I prefer The Balcony. That album with this kind of production and Bondy on the guitar it would have been even better.

Excuse me for bumping this thread, but I hadn't really heard much from Catfish until recently and WOW! I'm loving their second album, and just started listening to the first. I've read that most of you prefer the first one, but I have to say the second is so much more for me... amazing songs! From the Ride, I'm not really into Glasgow, but all the others are great! From the first album, I'm not really getting the appeal to songs like cocoon or homesick, but that hourglass tune!!! Now that's a ballad!!

The new album is out, what you guys think for that? In fact, their songs all sounds similar. I saw them at T in the park before, think they’re great performers, who make the crown in festival atmosphere.

Big fan of theirs. Not really feeling this new album though. Singles aside it's very low key and all sounds the same. It's listenable but forgettable and uninspired. Nothing really stands out bar Longshot, The singles are on par with the album tracks from their first two and the album tracks on this one are very disappointing. I assumed as part of their record deal they had to have a third album out this year because to me it sounds unfinished, rushed and way too formulaic. There's half a decent album here, they should have waited until they had the other half before making it.
If they half arse their next one they'll soon find themselves back in obscurity. Hope they get their act together next time.
4/10 for me

Anyone else going to their gig in Cov this weekend? First time I'm seeing them, despite the new album being weak I'm buzzing about it

Have liked CF&TBM since I first heard them. Finally got to see these in Galway a few weeks ago. Must say they were absolutly brilliant live. Played about a 90min set, just the odd bit of banter in between songs, just bang bang bang, song after song.

Ah, Catfish and the Bottlemen. You either love them or you hate them.
This new album was basically The Ride 2.0. The exact same sound. And look, I enjoyed The Ride. But it wasn't good enough to deserve a sequel.
They seriously need to try something new on the next album or else they're going to fizzle out.

They remind me of those bands growing up like Kula Shaker, Shed seven, Cast, Hard Fi, Razorlight, The Enemy, the Kooks. They get a number 1 album or two, Release one very good album, release a good single or two, get a fanbase but gradually decline as each album is released. They end up getting a few top 10 albums, playing to 2,000 people on tours and opening festivals been one of those "Remember them" bands. The same will happen with the Blossoms too.

Actually, they’re great live band, but definitely need to start experimental some new staff in the next album. Meanwhile, they grown up as a headliner for the music festival, he headlined TRNSMT this year, sounds nice.
