Holy shit..................
I'm not digging this new Julian Casablancas album on any level. Seems to extreme in every manner. Bummer too. I thought his debut showed real promise.

Holy shit.................. I'm not digging this new Julian Casablancas album on any level. Seems to extreme in every manner. Bummer too. I thought his debut showed real promise. It certainly is a challenging listen. i haven't had the time nor patience recently to truly give it a fair shot. I've listened to it a couple times. There is a lot to sift through, so nothing is immediately grabbing me. I like the fact that it sounds like nothing else out there right now, but I'm not sure if the songs are that good. It is all over the place. Phrazes is pretty solid and has a lot of ideas in it as well but the songs have more accessible melodies. Julian's work even in the strokes always kinda sounded like an arcade game. This sounds like an arcade game that has been electrically fried and put through the washing machine. This new one is over an hour long and only 3 songs are shorter than 4 mins. It is certainly an ambitious album for better or worse. Julian is certainly indulging himself on this one. I'm gonna give it some more tries this week but I probably won't have a definite opinion until the end of the year.

soundcloud.com/topdawgent/i-1Kendrick Lamar's new single "I" is a killer track. It samples the Isley Brothers’ “That Lady” and it has Outkast vibes. The lyrics are killer. Guy is truly the next great rapper. Wow. I love this.

Thom Yorke has confirmed Radiohead are now in day 2 of recording. Did overdubs yesterday. Interesting. He has also tweeted old artwork and lyrics.

This is kind of immature of me but I'm loving the fact that Pitchfork and Grantland are spitting on the new Alt-J album. Both reviews sum up exactly how I feel about the band. They are hipster try-hards and their "quirkiness" sounds calculated. Was talking to a friend the other day about them and he was saying "oh they're too unconventional for you". No they're the exactly opposite. Their music sounds like a bunch of wannabe art school students trying too hard to be different but in the end they just end up mashing a bunch of caricature sounds together. Making them sound like a really caricature. I feel like they are "indie" music for people who really just don't give a shit about actual bands that this band is trying to emulate.
End rant.

I gave it a whirl but it didn't take so I deleted Julian Casablancas' new album off my iTunes. I know I'm never going to revisit this material, so why keep it??

Anybody give the new Jeff Tweedy and son album a spin? I haven't yet but Jeff is one of my favorite songwriters. I expect it to be pretty solid. Haven't had the time for it to be honest. Fall is like an oasis of music flooding all at once.

Dungeon box set, with a usb stick just ordered. What that is is all four albums remastered and on the USB stick is a NP3 audio and better than CD audio (what?). Also get a shirt.

Just got "Playland" by my forever guitar hero and "Closing TIme" by Erland and The Carnival yesterday.
In less than 4 weeks time long waited The Twilight Sad's 4th album comes out.
I can't complain as it's been a great music year this year again for me.

Looking forward to listening to Jessie Ware's new album. I really enjoyed her debut I hope this one sees she refining her sound.
I'm listening to Ex Hex's debut album Rips and it is a load of fun. One of the funniest this year. Ripping riffs (maybe the best of the year in that category) and it has a lot of character. Read somewhere that it was like Thin Lizzy and The Ramones mashed together and that is an accurate description. 12 short/sweet, rocky songs that are immediately enjoyable.

Thanks Lennon.
Listened to "The Curse Of Love" and I love it. Classic Coral sound, indeed. Hopefully to see them again next year.
October has 3 great releases for me:
Playland released 2 weeks ago The Coral's new? album out next week and The Twilight Sad's 4th album is coming!
Life isn't bad at all.

New single from Pond (Tame Impala side band). I didn't like Hobo Rocket, their more recent LP, but this sounds promising.

mimmihopps, Erland & The Carnival's - Closing Time is fast becoming my favourite album of this year. Stunning, gets better and better and better with every listen. Daughter, Closing Time, Radiation and Quiet Love my favs so far but really hard to choose out of all of them. I think this is their best album yet, don't you think there's hints of similarity with The National in there too?

Daughter, Closing Time, Radiation and Quiet Love my favs so far but really hard to choose out of all of them. I think this is their best album yet, don't you think there's hints of similarity with The National in there too? Good timing, I was going to tell you that I saw them last night, matt. It was their record label (Full Time Hobby) evening with them, Samantha Crain and The John Steel Singers in a small hall of Paradiso. There was only 50 people there, but was a fantastic evening. Erland seems more confident as the singer/frontman of the band than the first time when I saw them. Each act played a short set from 45 minutes to an hour. Carnival played an hour with encore and was mixed from all of 3 albums. They were fantastic. I'm loving Closing Time, yet their selftitled debut album was/still is something. Really love "Daughter", "Radiation" and "Quiet Time" and I agree you about they have some similarity with The National. Like I said before, their music is just like painted pictures. How can anybody write the lyrics like "Love Is The Killing Thing"? I don't think there's many. Samantha Crain was really good too. A very small girl with talent.
