Now that I've got your attention, who else thinks this? There seems to be A LOT of folk on here who are distinctly unimpressed by it, and it seems to have aged terribly. Okay, crap may be an overstatement, it's got some really good songs like Shock of the Lightning and Falling Down, but apart from that, I think it's pretty forgettable.
Sure, songs like Bag It Up and The Turning are good when you listen to them, but I never feel an urge to play them on my stereo.
The bottom line is this I think: Oasis are a pop band wrapped up in a rocky sound. The great thing about High Flying Birds (an album I love, just to show I do still enjoy Gallagher related work) was that it had it's fair share of pop.
Apparently it's 'different' from other Oasis albums. Nothing original about it at all though- in fact, it's probably one of their most derivative records ever, never understood how some fans think it's different. But the underlying importance is it's got to have a good balance of pop songs, and the only pop is I'm Outta Time which doesn't give a nod to The Beatles, it gives a full on headbutt. You'd think Oasis would want to get away from all those 'Beatles tribute band' jibes no?
I never find myself intentionally going to listen to the album. It's instantly forgettable. The choice of the most boring producer on the face of the earth didn't help! Probably Dave Sardy's crap idea of wanting grooves (where the hell is the albums 'grooves' anyway?). But in summary, its just not that good is it? If this was the level that Oasis aspired to, then thank god they split up.

Idk, I actually really like the album, and although the album is pretty top heavy, the first half of the album is pretty amazing. From Bag It Up to I'm Outta Time is really great. I think Falling Down is one of Noel's best songs, and to me Soldier On is a really great closer, which is an opinion that I think nobody else agrees with. I think for a band's seventh album Dig Out Your Soul is really good. But that's just my opinion, and I can completely understand where you're coming from.

I personally love the first half of the album, 'Falling down' and 'Soldier on' are the highlights for me from the second half even though overall its below par for what you'd expect from Oasis. However i would say that when i'm in the mood for the album, i thinks its great. The album flows well and i don't think it deserves some of the flack it gets for having 3/4 poor tracks on it.

'The Turning' might be my fav. post-1998 track, but that last half is beyond terrible for an Oasis album.

I love the first 4 songs on the album, then it all goes to shit and I stop listening.

I think we have been over this topic a dozen times since DOYS was released. Sadly the facts are always the same. The first half is a brilliant offering of tune after tune after tune. I'm having all of it. However, the album comes crashing down after I'm Outta Time. Falling Down isn't enough to save that lousy second half. It still bothers me better tunes were left off to please Noel's "groove" idea and to have songwriting contributions from all band members. If I were Noel I would have dumped: High Horse, Ain't Got Nothing, and Nature of Reality. I would have added: Record Machine, Boy With The Blues and Come On Its Alright. I would have also swapped the Richard Fearless version of To Be Where There Is Life in for the album version. Perhaps Stop The Clocks as a Hidden track 3-4 minutes after Soldier On ends. Oh well. I'm just a fan and all i can do is dream about it. sidenote: If Joakim or anyone else leaks additional Noel demos in the future, I hope it is Come On Outside. Formerly Come On Its Alright.

Interesting how the b-sides have exciting interesting producers yet the album has the most unambitious producer.

^ Even the Get Off Your High Horse Lady remix is colourful and vibrant, a world away from the dirge on the album.

The production fails it greatly. I dig most of the songs on it, even songs people usually hate like To Be Where There's Life and The Nature of Reality. If they went for a producer that was more into a cosmic sound and less into driving every song into the ground so that they all sounded like one big mess in the key of D then it'd be a great album.

Dig Out Your Soul is my least favourite Oasis album and I've only listened to the whole album a few times since the day I bought it in 2008. The only song I love from this album is Falling Down. I don't even know how the most songs from this album sound.
To me it's the worst album Oasis ever made. There's no passion and love for music and for each other between 2 grown up brothers.
It's a big shame that this album was the last studio album one of my life time bands made.
PS: I did/do love the album cover and the booklet.

A few months ago I would have SLATED this thread but now I cannot disagree.
In September I gave my garden fences/ shed/ etc a lick of paint and put "Doys" on for the 1st time in yonks, and was shocked at how uninspired it sounds. To me its two brothers who dont like each other seeking money. Very poor effort.
Worst issues are:
The Turning has a choir which is too quiet. I'm Outta Time has John Lennon talking which is too quiet. Ain't Got Nothing has Liam screaming which is too quiet. Bag It Up features the most appalling sounding C4 exposion ever. To Be Where Theres Life has an ending which doesnt come quick enough.

Have to agree that it is a very boring, uninspired album. Couple of good tunes on there, but overall, pretty crap.

I like the album but I agree the second half is quite dull compared to the first. I also really like Get Off Your High Horse Lady. Its a little different from what they usually did. Not their greatest song, sure but different.

Was ready for a backlash. Thank goodness I'm not the only one who thinks it's really boring.

I don't mind it but its my least listened to Oasis album. The main issue I have with it is that it was the last new material they put out, ending the musical side of Oasis on a bit of a downer.

The Shock of the Lightning is one of their best latter day tunes... Bag It Up, Turning, Rapture, Falling Down are solid enough... the rest are pretty weak.
Boy With the Blues deserved a place on the album.

Bag It Up The Turning The Shock Of The Lightning I'm Outta Time Falling Down
They are the highlights for me, the rest isn't bad but it isn't exactly great. I agree with Epiphone in that The Boy With The Blues should of definitely been on the album.
The one thing that annoys me about DOYS is the fact that it could of been one of their best albums if the track listing was something like this:
1) Bag It Up 2) The Turning 3) The Boy With The Blues 4) The Shock Of The Lightning 5) Record Machine 6) Falling Down 7) A Simple Game Of Genius 8) I'm Outta Time 9) Four Letter Word (It was wrote before DOYS) 10) Stop The Clocks
Obviously Come On, It's Alright! was meant to be on there to which was meant to be huge! What an album that would of been.

I am also not sure Four Letter Word was written yet either. Andy said he presented 4 songs for DOYS (Nature of Reality, Millionaire, Kill For A Dream and The Beat Goes On). I think he also mentioned Four Letter Word was written after the bands split. I could be mistaken though.

I'm sure I read Four Letter Word was wrote quite a good while a go, I might be wrong though. Still, what an album that would be!

For me it's still a good 8/10 album, sure AGN and TNOR are crap, TBWTL is a bit lifeless, but the rest are great, SO is very underrated and even GOYHHL has his place on the album.
Sardy production was inspired by the blues sound of The White Stripes I guess, and Noel liked the ideia, the result was more o less satisfying, but very acceptable if you like this kind of sound.
And for the very first time in years Noel started to experiment once again, FD has that Gas Panic feeling since, well, Gas Panic itself, TBWTL without guitars was a risk move, SO is very different too and GOYHHL has that western nocturne moody kind of thing.
I will always judge the album for it great tunes, not the bad ones, much like SOTSOG.
