Bag It Up The Turning The Shock Of The Lightning I'm Outta Time Falling Down They are the highlights for me, the rest isn't bad but it isn't exactly great. I agree with Epiphone in that The Boy With The Blues should of definitely been on the album. The one thing that annoys me about DOYS is the fact that it could of been one of their best albums if the track listing was something like this: 1) Bag It Up 2) The Turning 3) The Boy With The Blues 4) The Shock Of The Lightning 5) Record Machine 6) Falling Down 7) A Simple Game Of Genius 8) I'm Outta Time 9) Four Letter Word (It was wrote before DOYS) 10) Stop The Clocks Obviously Come On, It's Alright! was meant to be on there to which was meant to be huge! What an album that would of been. I dont think A Simple Game of Genius was written yet. Noel said he wrote it on the road during the DOYS tour. I am also not sure Four Letter Word was written yet either. Andy said he presented 4 songs for DOYS (Nature of Reality, Millionaire, Kill For A Dream and The Beat Goes On). I think he also mentioned Four Letter Word was written after the bands split. I could be mistaken though. Andy said The Beat Goes On was one of the last songs written for DGSS Can't find the interview but it's out there, might have been a radio one) so I assume the final song would have been Four Letter Word

DOYS is probably my most listened to Oasis album as I became a fan in 2006 and after all the build up and waiting for my first new Oasis record I probably played it about 10 times a day for a while! I still play it about once a week. In fact if I'm being completely honest (while I accept it's not the best) it's probably just about my favourite Oasis record! I just wish we got the epic version of Record Machine and (It's supposed to be good) Come on, Outside on there in place of Ain't Got Nothin' and GOYHHL

'The Turning' might be my fav. post-1998 track, but that last half is beyond terrible for an Oasis album. 100% agree with all of that. The album is really all about 5 tunes. BIU TSOL TT IOT FD

Im not shocked by this opinion.
But its the best album the band did post-Morning Glory.
It's got Noel's return to writing some very strong tunes (Lightning, Falling Down, The Turning, Rapture), and featured the best non-Gallagher tune in band's career (To Be Where There's Life), and while not on the record itself, the era produced great non-album tracks like Liams best (The Boy With the Blues) & what I believe superior to the album version, the alternate take of Rapture. Soldier On is also a really strong tune. It was forward-thinking and for probably the first time in their whole career took some very subtle chances that paid off. I don't think its a perfect record (Nature of Reality is garbage and Aint Got Nothin is a throwaway) but as an album this one was a return to form. I feel the albums prior to this one were more formulaic and while they all featured at least a couple of strong tunes, this one felt like a step in the right direction in terms of album creation.

Crap is your life, mate ;D
Dig Out Your Soul is my favourite Oasis's album. Even with the last poor tracks, the songs between track 1 and track 7 are something that words don't describe, you just need to find the feeling and leave it take all yourself.

I understand the common criticism of the album (bottom half sags) but I really love DOYS.
Bag It Up to Falling Down = perfect (I'd maybe put the Twiggy IOT instead to push listeners but I like the Lennon quote in the original)
TBWTL - I can appreciate them trying to do something different but we can mostly agree, it didnt work so well. The Richard Fearless version however is FANTASTIC and should have made the cut instead.
AGN, TNOR - I still quite like these tunes. I AGREE that there is a lag from the high of tracks 1-8 (assuming the TBWTL fearless) but they're still decent tracks, particularly TNOR.
SO - I love this one, terrific closer. I think the 2nd half just needed a big song, like the HFB version of Record Machine instead of TNOR or after it, before SO.
I love the sound they've got on it - deep groove and big and heavy. Like SOTSOG and BHN.
With some easy improvements, DOYS coudl have been one of their best albums IMO. But I still love it as it is.

Yeah, I also found that "crap" was a bit too much I wonder why Noel stopped with the punk rock in Oasis, as The shock of the lightning was an excellent number... By the way, I don't get the praise for Stop the Clocks..for me is kind of a "meh" song haha ;D it really fall short in terms of epicness.

I don't really get the love for Bag It Up and The Turning but I really like Falling Down and I'm Outta Time. Shock of the Lightning just sounds like Oasis-by-numbers - the lyrics are awful (even by Noel's sometimes ropey standards).
All in all, a sad way for the band to bow out but it at least showed it was the right time to do something different.

Bag It Up The Turning Waiting For the Rapture The Shock of The Lightning I'm Outta Time (Twiggy & Sardy Remix) High Horse Lady (Devendra Banhart Mix) Falling Down To Be Where There's Life (Richard Fearless Mix) I Believe in All Boy With The Blues Soldier On
That's a good album.
I'm not gonna add in Record Machine as I'd want hear Liam singing the monster version and I'm not going to say Come On, It's Alright would have improved the album either as no one has heard it!!
I like the album, Richard Fearless would have been a better producer than Sardy but what's done is done.

its a great and trippy journey. I agree, it is like a journey. It is like a Journey around the M25. Its slow, boring, tedious, nobody wants to be there and on the whole is a very dull experience. Any moment where it seems like you are actually moving, you hit more traffic... Abit like going through 4 nice minutes of Falling Down and them come to a swift halt and get stuck at T* B* Wh*re Th*res L*fe... Once you finally get off that road, you want to take a different route next time. Liam & Noel did. I did. The OP certainly did.

I wish the studio version of To Be Where There's Life was the same as the live one.

I'm amazed at how many of you really 'hate' this album. I mean its got a few filler songs but overall is a pretty decent album compared to the other shit that's out there these days I think its alright. But that's just my opinion.

I couldnt get over how the quality dropped so much after falling down. It was on its way to being the best oasis album since the 90s. If it wasnt for those last couple of tracks they would of went out with a bang.

Solid album except for High Horse, TBWTL, and Nature of Reality. 3 VERY weak tracks.

Am I the only one who think Soldier On was a great song to end the album? I do like Soldier On but if I had a choice, I'd have gone with Boy With The Blues to end DOYS.

They should have just gone more psychedelic / agressive.

Am I the only one who think Soldier On was a great song to end the album? Not at all mate, loved it from 1st listen. OK the album overall is probably my least favourite but there are some class Gallagher moments. I see DOYS & the Bonus disc as 1 output so taking it all into account it is pretty different so it was always bound to ruffle a few feathers. "Crap" is a bit strong though, I would say weak in parts, mainly to do with the production. It is "trippy" as others have said The Turning is great, love the harmonies The Twiggy IOT is qulaity The Fearless TBWTL is great The Alt Version of WFTR with Noel singing is really nice, underated IMO on this forum. TSOTL - A great single & Video IMO Soldier On is a great closer. TNOR & High Horse being the weaker songs, they are B-Sides at best. I also don't really like Those Swollen Hand Blues. Had they not split up however I don't know what the follow up album would have been like. What direction it would have went. With Noels lazyness It maybe got like too many Chief's in the end with all the songs flying around & writing styles.

I rarely listen to DOYS anymore. The last time I listened to the full album was a few months ago. It's not a great listen, but it is a decent listen.
Falling Down will always been the shining light of it, which is somewhat ironic because Falling Down is probably the darkest song that Noel will ever make next to SB&JF. But I think it was the perfect last single for Oasis.
I've come to really like The Shock of the Lightning. I was just watching a live version of it from Standing on the Edge of the Noise. Brilliant performance. But I still wish that the "na na na na" bit at the end of the studio version were mixed a bit higher. I like Bag It Up, but I don't love it. The Turning is pretty good, but I do love the alt. version of it, same with Waiting for The Rapture. I'm Outta Time is always destroyed for me because of the random quote at the end. I actually really love Soldier On. I think it's a great closer and the perfect closer the final Oasis album. I always felt that To Be Where's Life would be so much better if they had dropped the idea of the sitar almost altogether. I wish it had been more in the image of the live version, that or the remix. Ain't Got Nothing can go die in a fire along with the Nature of Reality. And I've actually always loved the unmixed version of Get of Your High Horse Lady. It's far better than the mixed in my opinion.
Also, I wish there were more instance of Liam and Noel harmonizing. Their voices meld together so well that I think that in almost every instance their harmonizing increases the greatest of any track. Wish there were more moments like that during DOYS. They truly were always magic when their voice melded together.
To be honest, DOYS is really only 1 good track away. I can take 2-3 poor tracks on a 11 track album, but DOYS has 4. Take one song like High Horse Lady or better yet To Be Where There's Life to balance it out and make it a bit better and this album's overall view would skyrocket in my opinion. It's really only one track away.

^true. One of the few songs where there's just no bright spot (along with Where Did It All Go Wrong). It's completely dark. Also Oa. I've always loved Soldier On. It's one of Liam's best in my opinion and a brilliant closer for the Oasis story in general.

let me guess. you're one of the fans, who beg for another don't look back in anger, supersonic and champagne supernova..... they already had these tunes, so don't be that bitchy, when a band try a new direction. it wasn't even new but slightly different. No. For a start i dont even like C&A. At no point in my post did I bitch about a "new direction" i critisised the pure dowerness of the whole thing. This album is not even a new direction, its directionless. It has no drive. It has songs which Noel didnt want on it. It has production that the producer didnt like. It has Andy Bells songwriting credits in the booklet. Noel came out pretty quickly and slated 'The Turning' for having an inaudible choir, having two "shit songs on it" and said Dave Sardy essentially did fuck all. Why did Noel bother to release the fucking thing if he wasnt happy? Thats my big problem with it. One of my favourite Oasis songs is Who Feels Love? Now that IS a new direction. i bet, that if they really had gone back and came up with tunes like the morning glory era, you would be one of the first to claim them being uninspired and boring, because they are repeating themselves. If I didnt like a band repeating themselves I wouldnt like the Morning Glory era at all, would I?

The other time he did that was when he was on tour in December 1999 in the USA saying SOTSOG has two duds on it (PYMWYMI and ICSAL). It is never good to mention that stuff before an albums release. I also have a hard time believing Liam never had time to lay down vocals for Record Machine and Come On, It's Alright. They recorded for 3 months in Abbey Road and then spent another 3 months in LA mixing it. You are telling me Liam never had a chance to record vocals?
