Okay I'll settle a few things. Crap may be a bit of an overstatement so let me go through the album (APOLOGIES for any profanities - I don't usually swear but I feel some words are best used for this album).
Bag It Up - good song, another typical Oasis opener.
The Turning - good song, again not amazing
Waiting For The Rapture - absolute rubbish, it's all plodding and sounds as if it was recorded in the 60s, just another Force of Nature rehash.
Shock of the Lightning - Very good song, one of the two highlights of the album, got that energy of old punk like songs like Bring It On Down and Headshrinker
I'm Outta Time - beautiful melody, potentially Liam's best song.... and then the production destroys the song. Like I said previously, the nod to The Beatles became an all out headbutt on this one. A Paul McCartney slurpy style bassline, a bit of Lennon piano, some Ringo plodding drums. A laughably massive rip off of the Fab Four, and gave ammunition to all those thinking they're just a Beatles tribute band.
Get Off Your High Horse Lady - it's pretty average, not bad, not good. All it really does is work well as an prelude to Falling Down.
Falling Down - the highlight of the album, one of Noel's best tunes. Could have done with a better producer than Dave Sardy to modernise the sound a bit though, but the strength of the tune sees it through.
To Be Where There's Life - If one Beatles rip off wasn't enough for some, they decide to channel the sprit of George Harrison by putting a sitar on this one. This does not offer anything 'new' or 'different'. As for the actual tune, another plodding piece of rubbish. The production doesn't attempt to liven things up thanks to Dave Sardy ballsing up again.
Nature of Reality - I think everyone knows why this is awful. The most boring Oasis song of all time.
Ain't Got Nothin - absolute pure piss. Sounds like the sort of crap when your school hosts a battle of the bands competition and most bands come out with shite like this.
Soldier On - Nice song, I really like this. Would have been good if this was Liam's contribution for Standing on the Shoulders of Giants. However, it's the end of the album, the damage has well and truly been done so nobody gives a shit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just reading the previous post from lennon and he talks of Noel saying there were a few shit songs on the album, left off some good tunes because Liam didn't turn up for vocals and there wasn't enough time.... makes this album seem more like a poor excuse to go out on the road, perform and get all the money that way. The fact that most of the album wasn't even played shows how much confidence they had in this.
This album makes me glad Oasis split up. It annoys me how a band that we are all devoted to give out a half baked album every few years just as an excuse to tour. Seemed as if there was no will at all to make another great album, not even try and giving us rehashed tunes but of lesser quality from previous years - they knew simply that the Oasis brand would carry the album quite well anyway. Kind of sticking up two fingers to us fans who stick by them through thick and thin and give them all our money.
Which is why the split was the best thing. Both brothers were up against it to try and prove something. Okay, Liam released the unspectacular Beady Eye debut, but the news of them doing something different shows a bunch of guys who really know they have to please the fans. Likewise with Noel, he released his best material since Morning Glory because he genuinely didn't know what reaction he would get. Hopefully, the solo malarky will force him to put out quality time and time again like High Flying Birds because it's his name plastered all over it.

Kind of off topic, but I feel kind of good knowing that The Shock of the Lightning was one of the last tunes Oasis ever recorded as a band. It's a classic style Noel penned, Liam sung anthem with raw bursting energy not seen since the Definitely Maybe days. If that was the last ever new Oasis song, it's great to know that they went out with a bang.

The fact that most of the album wasn't even played shows how much confidence they had in this. The sad thing is, it was played, but not to its full potential: Falling Down - I see why it was in the setlist, but Noel has yet to perfect it live WFTR - I'm not having your criticism, I love this track. Don't ever mention it in the same breath as the horrible FON ever again. IOT - I understand why this was included, even though Liam struggles with it TBWTL - Works well live TSOTL - Great track, great live, too. AGN - Why the fuck was this considered when MOS was there, too? That's over half the album right there. The question you have to ask is why the fuck did the exclude BIU and TT from the live performances!?

Always bugged me that. I'm sure Noel said they couldn't get them to work live but I'm not having that. I think that was aimed at Liam because he never turned up to the soundchecks but they're both pretty bog-standard to sing - 'I'm Outta Time' would be more difficult to sing than both of those. Maybe Noel couldn't sing backing-vox whilst playing the riff in 'Bag It Up' which I'd imagine would be tricky. The live shows would've been miles better if they were included.

Isn't there a soundcheck recording of the band playing The Turning without Liam?
Would have been great live. It's sometimes my favourite track from the era.
And Noel could have gotten Gem to play lead on Bag It Up if he struggled with doing both backing vocals and lead guitar. For that track I wonder if maybe it was more the drums. I seem to remember that they had two sets of drums on that track so maybe Chris struggled to replicate it live?

Well if that's the case if he'd of bothered to turn up for some soundchecks he'd of probably nailed them eventually. The lazy bastard!

I was listening to this song by Cornershop, album Handcream For a Generation from the year 2002, but the thing is that Noel play guitars on this track, it is simple mindblowing, just listen to this, Oasis doing this kind of sound would have been awesome.

Where is the source for that? I hadn't seen it before. And to Matt, do you think anyone who uses a sitar is ripping off George Harrison? I'm pretty sure the instrument has a richer history than that.

Also, have we figured out why Noel needed a sheet of paper on stage with him throughout the entire DOYS tour?

Of course I know that. George Harrison took genuine fascination with the instrument and the whole culture that surrounded it. I just don't think Oasis were in that same frame of mind though.

Listening to Dig Out Your Soul after a while as I'm typing this and I'm really enjoying it. So there, for me at least it's a good album.

And he complained about Liam yeah it's weird, he had that lyric stand out during Cigarettes & Alcohol at Wembley 2008. Maybe it was just left there after To Be Where There's Life, but I was like, why does he need the lyrics for that song? haha

Bag It Up The Turning The Shock Of The Lightning I'm Outta Time Falling Down They are the highlights for me, the rest isn't bad but it isn't exactly great. I agree with Epiphone in that The Boy With The Blues should of definitely been on the album. The one thing that annoys me about DOYS is the fact that it could of been one of their best albums if the track listing was something like this: 1) Bag It Up 2) The Turning 3) The Boy With The Blues 4) The Shock Of The Lightning 5) Record Machine 6) Falling Down 7) A Simple Game Of Genius 8) I'm Outta Time 9) Four Letter Word (It was wrote before DOYS) 10) Stop The Clocks Obviously Come On, It's Alright! was meant to be on there to which was meant to be huge! What an album that would of been. I dont think A Simple Game of Genius was written yet. Noel said he wrote it on the road during the DOYS tour. I am also not sure Four Letter Word was written yet either. Andy said he presented 4 songs for DOYS (Nature of Reality, Millionaire, Kill For A Dream and The Beat Goes On). I think he also mentioned Four Letter Word was written after the bands split. I could be mistaken though.[/quote

I love Side A of Dig Out Your Soul. In my opinion it is the best flow of tunes on any Oasis album.

Dig Out Your Soul is my favorite Oasis album. I think the classic albums and B-sides can stand against the best of any band including U2 or The Beatles. Dig Out Your Soul was the first album that I listened to and became 'mine'. I love the direction and songs on it. Yeah could the second half have head much better songs on it? Yes. Were there an abundance of class A material on the back burner? Oh Yes. Did Noel fuck up DOYS because he decided to be childish and petty? Oh yeah. I still love Dig Out Your Soul though. It's a rocking post apocalyptic biblical soundtrack. I respect all of your opinions but I disagree on this. I think even with all of it's faults Doig Out Your Soul was still under appreciated and the massive potential it could have had could have derailed a lot of that "Viva La Vida is the best album of the decade" malarkey.
p.s. I just listened to the Richard Fearless Version of To Be Where There's Life and holy shit that was brilliant!
Bag It Up The Turning Waiting For The Rapture The Shock Of The Lightning I'm Outta Time Do You Wanna Live In A Dream (In My Record Machine) Falling Down To Be Where There's Life Those Swollen Hand Blues I Believe In All The Boy With The Blues

Well Here in the United States the masses aren't use to having great band after great band, great album after great album, and very few groundbreaking bands since the only ones I can think of are The Brian Jonestown Massacre which for me are the Gary Oldman of music, The Velvet Underground and The Doors. Viva La Vida audio drowned this country in Coldplay for a whole year and a half. Radio DJ's here and several people (Not critics) kept on saying how different and amazing this album was. People in my high school were using it for all their creative videos and even my teachers stopped class to talk to some of the people in class about it. It was ridiculous. I like even loved the album but it wasn't groundbreaking and I was just getting into Oasis' catalog so I was basically like"...Oasis > Coldplay" and people kept using the term "relevant". It was just annoying after a while. Then the Muse wave came and with the Twilight movies and has calmed down considerably in the last two years. Some people in this country are still mourning Kurt Cobain.....Well if you listened to 103.1 the Buzz here which was basically a friend to American grunge, alternative and metal bands so basically shite except for the very rare times they played The Strokes and Champagne Supernova. That was the last years of my teenage life there and looking back on it I was surprised I survived it all lol. I have a much larger musical library now to what I listen to so it all works out. This country though praises Nirvana as one of the greatest bands ever and being an innovative band and I don't share the same view as those sheep. Me personally they're the most overrated bands in history. Back on topic though so Coldplay all though I do like them I just never thought Viva La Viva was as great as every one said it was. As far as Kid A goes I just can't get into it. I like all of Radiohead 2002 onwards but my best friend's favorite band is Radiohead and I of course am on team Oasis so we clash quite a bit but always find solace in trashing my our mutual best feind because he loves Blink 182 and all those shit post hardcore stuff like The Devil Wears Prada, Chiodos (Which too bad actually) and Dance Gavin Dance. Lmao one of his friends was actually telling me that he believes All Time Low (another band which is a guilty pleasure for me) was The Greatest Band Of All Time >_>

I guess I'm lucky to avoid that nonsense. That is a rather huge statement to make in America. Especially with these gem records being released since 2000: Kid A Funeral Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Is This It The Suburbs In Rainbows Illinoise Besides, Viva isn't even the best Coldplay album. That would be either Parachutes or Rush of Blood.
