I've been creating my own track lists for every oasis album since Be here now. I have two rules which ensures the album keeps the spirit owns feel of how it was intended... 1. Never remove more than 4 songs. 2. Only replace them with recordings from the same studio sessions
Was dig out your soul shit? Hell no. The first half can be played next to Definitely maybe and morning glory and stand proud... That said. The 2nd half is a mess... Noel should have put his foot down and insisted on more time for Liam to do more vocals so we could have had record machine and come on it's alright on... I do like high horse lady but... There were far better choices.
1. Bag it Up 2. The turning 3. Waiting for the Rapture 4. Shock of the Lightning 5. I'm outta time 6. I wanna live in a dream in my record machine 7. falling Down 8. To be where there's life (A Richard fearless production) 9. Come on it's Alright 10.Boy With the Blues
Sorry Andy but no tunes of yours were up to standard in this period. Apart from Four letter word... However its debatable whether this was written at this time. If so... I'd stick it on between TBWTL & COIA. But nothing else is good enough... I like millionaire but noel has made it clear he didn't. Kill for a dream was Average. Beat goes on was arguably written after oasis split. But that wouldn't have fit the vibe of this album...

I'll get behind this. I've long thought that "Keep The Dream Alive", "Kill For A Dream" and"The Beat Goes On" were painful cliche rock tunes that went absolutely nowhere. It's the types of songs an Oasis cover band would write.

I would never place both I'm Outta Time and Boy With The Blues on an album. And there's a reason why they didn'T

I think it rocks. After HC and DBTT, i thought oasis had truly lost it. There wasn't a single rocker that stood up to anything on the first three albums, it was all mellow cliche nasal songs that wouldn't have been b sides to anything theyd done previous.
And then along came DOYS, and the first four songs all rocked hard. I was so happy. Bringing back the electric guitars, and pounding drums instead of the ballads, and little indie rock songs we got from HC and DBTT.
Bag It Up - great start, great guitars, love it
The Turning - the anger with which Liam sings the chorus is a much needed burst of energy after 8 years of slow, laidback tunes. Love this.
WFTR - I adore this song. Noels falsetto, the drums, the chorus, all of it.
TSOTL - Brilliant. The 'all in good time' harmony, the pounding drum solo, and the massive thrashing guitars all make this one of my top 20 oasis songs. No joke.
IOT - liams best song, its great. The chorus in particular.
GOYHHL - contrary to many, i like this song. Got a good groove, its a nice chill tune. Good prelude to...
FD - one of the best post-BHN tunes, great lyrics, great vocals, almost psychedelic feel. Excellent song.
TBWTL - If I'm in the mood, this song is great. Can be a good, casual tune, to just listen to and tap your foot, the baseline grooves, and it might drag a little, but its a grower, i like it.
AGN - not really sure why i like it. Much improved TMOS, its got energy, its not the best song, but yeah ill listen to it.
TNOR - To me this sounds like someone trying to write a song with a groove, and deep philosophical lyrics. I dont like the riff, the melody is boring, the lyrics are bad, its not one of liams best vocals. Filler.
SO - alright. Decent closer, but on its own is a bit weak. Just keeps on aswell. But yeah its alright.
The first 5 songs, plus FD, are no joke the best songs noel has written since SOTSOG (plus TIOBI). there are some real rocking tunes.
If you're looking for an average oasis album, look at HC or DBTT.
They are half filler.
This is a small fraction filler.

I'm sorry but I don't hear that "Morning Glory feel" on DOYS at all.
Anyway, I've said this often but DOYS is my third favourite Oasis album. I think it's pretty solid and I like everything on it except TNOR. For once, Sardy actually did a good job producing, bar some minor things like the bassline on TBWTL could have been louder and the choir on The Turning could have been a bit louder but that's taste.
I would give it a 7.8 out of 10. And I rate both MG and DM a 9 out of 10, maybe 9.5. MG would have gotten a 10 if The Swamp Song and Hey Now (or shortened) would have been replaced with either TM or Acquiesce.

I really like Dig Out Your Soul, the first half it in particular, and it is an album I can easily listen right through. I might be in a minority of 1 here, but I like The Nature of Reality!
The tour was awful, worst I have seen Oasis. The gigs I went to anyway, they were just going through the motions.

This was the first Oasis album I every bought, oddly enough. The first 5 songs are absolutely excellent - some of the best post-2000 tunes. Although I prefer the other version of Waiting For The Rapture, this version fits the album better. The Shock Of The Lightning was a great lead single to have as well.
High Horse Lady generally bores the arse off me, although recently I listened to it on a good pair of headphones and it did have some interesting guitar sounds on it. I like To Be Where's There's Life but ti could do with a guitar of two on it as they did with the live versions. Ain't Got Nothin' and The Nature Of Reality are just pure filler. Soldier on is a decent ending, however I prefer Boy With The Blues.
An album that didn't quite live up to it's explosive opening. 7/10

Its far from a crap album, even the songs which most consider to be shite like To be where theres life and Aint got nothin are good imo. I'll take it over HC and SOTSOG anyday

Missing vocals from Liam on Record Machine, Stop The Clocks and A Simple Game Of Genius, so unfortunately not! Liam on game of genius? He would've butchered that, that song needs noels vocals imo, RM would sound great with liam though

This passage always reminded me of the DOYS era.....
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."

Bag It Up through to I'm Outta Time is the best run of songs on an Oasis album since WTSMG in my opinion. GOYHHL, AGN and TNOR are total shit but I love Falling Down, and don't mind Soldier On and TBWTL. Very solid album soured by a few total clangers.

Noel SHOULD have bagged up High Horse, Nature of Reality and Ain't Got Nothing so the world would not have to deal with that trash.

I think so too, but on the other hand I'm imagining an alternative reality were those songs have never been released and then they leak. We all would go crazy with "OMG why wasn't this released?? should've been a single!!" comments.

I dont think anyone would be excited to hear a second version of meaning of the soul 3 years later the demo was leaked, unless they reworked the song wich they didnt. High horse lady kinda fits the album(love the relaxing walking on the beach/river sounds before falling down) and the riff of nature of reality should've been reworked into something else. But as the lyric say 20/20 visionary...

And by the way, DOYS is NOT crap. Loved that album the day it came out and still love it. Songs were great, I even like a couple of remixes and of course the artwork is amazing.
I listen to the album regularly but he DOYS era was crap, no b-sides, lack of promotion, the same setlist every night, Liam's voice and it was clear they didn't enjoy it anymore. Liam was angry on stage, Noel looked bored and the rest... well, at least Chris was a nice addition to the band.

As many people have said the first half of DOYS is incredible, the first four are the best run since Columbia to Cigs and Alc on DM.
In fact I wouldn't change the first 8 they all fit well together (maybe make To Be Where.. A bit more like the live version) but it's the last three which leave a sour taste in the mouth and tarnish the overall experience. Coming in a sequence at the end of the album is woeful
Boy with the blues instead of Aint got Mothing and A Full overblown Liam sung version of Record Machine like we'd been promised to finish the album would have been awesome or maybe even stick an alternative remix version of Falling Down on the end as a part 2 like what Primal Scream did with Swastika Eyes on XTRMTR and you'd have an absolute beast of an album

DOYS really is a shite album. Other than the 3 singles released, the rest is awful, and such a shame to end the Oasis career on, particularly the last song on the album to close it - Soldier on, which is one of the worst songs ever written.
Throw in a few decent tracks from Liam and Noel's solo efforts that followed, and you would have had a decent album.
As it is, its one of the worst albums ever produced by any band.
