I've listened to it 5-6 times now. Its sounds very polished and clean, something I wasn't expecting at first and wasn't sure I liked on first listen but the louder you turn up the volume the better it sounds. Its one of the best albums I've ever heard and the best album in ages but wouldn't mind it being a bit more raw, BA is one of my favourites because it doesnt sound as overproduced
EOTR - Wasn't sure about the echo on the vocals when I first heard it, but its my own fault for listening to the soundcheck!! This song is epic. The chorus is amazing and should be fantastic live
DO - Probably my favourite on the 30 sec preview but was my least favourite on full first listen. This song gets better everytime I hear it. Noels vocals are fantastic. This is the one song which I would have wanted Noel to put a guitar solo in
IIHAG - Probably my favourite on the album
TDOYAM - Great song and flows the album on nicely
RM - EPIC - the "dont need one to shine" line is the best part on the album - again though it may have sounded even more epic if it wasn't so polished
WAL - I've played this to death so skipped it the last few times I've heard the album - nothing wrong with the song though - fantastic again
SBAJK - Lyrics are amazing. The biggest grower on the album. Love it
BA - Great lyrics, catchy and fresh sounding - one of the best
SOTWB - My least favourite - I wouldn't say it was a bad record but could have done with better lyrics
STC - The first verse sounds to overproduced but gets better the more the song goes on. It is great but I think I prefer the demo ATM

I have only listened to RM, EOTR and STC, love them all, but my problem with RM is that he has taken that gospel effect from his voice in the verses that was on the demo, and i thought that was amazing, i do like the strings on it though so i guess that kinda saves it.
Holding out for the rest til monday, im intrigued about BA, can someone describe what it's like in a sentence?
regards

best and most truthful post in this entire thread. i've been saying it for a long while though. Noel's album isn't a rock or even alternative rock album. It's a folksy POP record. You know what else is a folksy POP record?: the record with that song "A Dark Horse and a Cherry Tree" on it, you know, that song KT Tunstall?

I think I'm the only person a bit underwhelmed by EOTR...
The drums aren't right, it's too fast (much better with the soundcheck version tempo) and I think Noel's vocals seem a bit "forced". Probably prefer the choir n strings version to be honest...
Record machine and STC are quality though, especially the solo bit in Record machine. Pretty bloody good album overall though still.
Roll on Oct 30th in London! :-D

The drums in EOTR are very spaghetti western/Morricone. I was surprised how fast the song is, but I have to say I love it, it's "stronger" than I thought.

6/10 some good songs like Record Machine but some crap like Dream On. Best song AOTR was left off.

The last time Noel tried to polish a turd like this we got Be Here Now (which I love btw because it's a reflection of that time in the UK) I personally find this album too polished, middle of the road, boring. Songs like EOTR, STC and RM were much much better in the soundcheck/demo versions, Noel seems to have sucked all the emotion out of these potential classics and replaced it with sickly echo, too many strings and choirs etc... Everyone on here will rave about it, I'll get abuse thrown at me but we'll see how many still rave about it in 3-6 months time when the hype has died down and Noel isn't in the press every 5 minutes bigging up the songs.
I can imagine lounge singers copying these songs really badly on piano's in hotel's all around the world, that and it being played as lift music. It sounds to me like an album produced to crack the american market, all radio friendly and cross over.

It sounds to me like an album produced to crack the american market, all radio friendly and cross over. you talking about noel gallagher right? he always wrote radio friendly songs. live forever, wonderwall or don't look back in anger are big music radiohits. oasis weren't a insiderband or something. they were one of the biggest acts on the world and to say he wrote radio friendly songs on that album is just ludicrous. it's noel gallagher, one of the biggest melodists of all time. and this album is the soundtrack of his skills. i understand if you don't like the album, but if you listen back to the songs he sung on in the past ten years, then this album is just a compilation of all this

Honestly, I don't think either record is better than the other. They're two different genres in my opinion. Frankly, both records have highs and lows. Crop and cut both and you arguably have THE BEST OASIS RECORD TO DATE. If anything, after listening to Noel's record and having spent most of 2011 listening to Beady Eye, I've drawn the conclusion that the brothers Gallagher are not better off on their own but rather they need each other. Together they are at the their best. Fragmented, they produce good music but certainly not at the level or velocity of Oasis. 1. One album IS superior overall and finer within its genre. It's all music, it's ok to say one is better than another even if it's not a mirrored-match, style-wise 2. NGHFB is superior to at least 3 (and prolly 4) Oasis LP's....which of course both Gallaghers appear upon. Reality: Liam has "helped out" on (ok, even "made") some past Oasis tracks...lending a more "rock n roll" (and sometimes, just better) vocal...even though the lion's share of them are all but unlistenable live, these days/recent past because he simply cannot SING worth a shit anymore. Truth hurts, but I've accepted it. Of course it doesn't set you back to have another voice around..and a guy who might add a decent tune to an LP every 3 years, but of course the real point is that these 2 LPs have clearly revealed what most of us already knew: Noel's one of the finest song-writers/pop arrangers of our generation while the other three are simply ok. Refute the above all you want, I think it's the obvious truth that the vast majority of us can largely agree on.

by the way, what the fuck do you people expect of an album of this ilk? Of course it sounds "polished" ...what were you expecting, husker du hanging out in the garage with Noel and running it through a 4 track?
unbelievable.
Choirs, strings, layered guitars (and drums in parts) and people bitch that it's "too polished".
You can bet a million dollars though that if it weren't so "polished" the same lot would be pissing and moaning that it's "underproduced/too raw...the songs should be BIGGER!!!".
You can't make this shit up. dreadful.

He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, when we heard there was gonna be strings and choirs the board was going mental saying the album is gonna be huge, colossal etc...........and it is by the looks of it. In reality Noel has given the fans some pretty amazing stuff, he has listened about the whole b-side thing and provided some belters, he has used social media to keep us constantly updated with news, even got an app!! and he is appearing on Jonathan Ross so we are gonna get some brilliant banter from him. Oh and he gave us an album with the kitchen sink thrown in, included what most of us wanted RM, EOTR, IIHAG, EOTR, and ASGOG Give the god a foookin break

Is it crap or epic? More on the latter's side First here are my initial thoughts on each song EOTR: Epic Song...has that real kind of ''fuck you'' attitude that made Oasis what they were....guarantee Sky SPorts will be using this over the highlights of matches! Some tender moments from Noel in the vocal also contrast well here. 9.5/10 Dream On: Was expecting something completely different. The verse sounds kinda like The Thrills for some reason aswell as hinting at the DOYAM. Well structured song...Chorus....is growing on me..considering the phrase '' Dream On'' is cringeworthy to me for some reason 7/10 If I Had A Gun: Great song...amazing bridge...the fact that it is TRACK 3 on this album also seems to lift it up to a higher plane....a truly great song!!!!! 9.5/10 The Death Of You And Me: Perhaps it's just the video...but I can't help but get a real Western...ambling by the roadside in the summer desert kind of vibe. As I've said before, it's really poppy and reminds of a ELiza Dolittle kind of number. A song to be played when the summer isn't fullfilling its promise me thinks 8.5/10 Wanna Live In A Dream.... : More or less the same as the demo...personally feel it's a manufactured song....but bloody hell...the Middle 8th at the end is just killer... ACQUIESCE LIKE....the whole song should've been built around that section...coz that's gold dust! 8/10 (11/10 For the Middle Eight..''Ya Can't Give Me A Reason...!" AKA What A Life : I like the vibe here, real groovy....but doesn't really end up going anywhere...nonetheless what we have is a tune that if Kasabian did it, the praise would be more universal. But really, there is a kind of wearinesss to the way Noel sings this song...and maybe that's why it doesn't soar... A song for the late hours mayhaps? 7.5/10 Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks: Sounds a bit like The Kooks ("but it's feels like Love Love Love" song) which is not a bad thing....another whimsical poppy tune that can't help but bring a smile to the face. Loads of familiar little melodies are in this tune, but hey talent borrows...genius steals!! 8.5/10 AKA....Broken Arrow: Another great tune....reminds me of an under-rated little band called Thirteen Senses. For some reason didn't think it should have followed SBAJF...kinda samey in structure mayhaps....nonetheless the chorus is great! 8/10 Stranded On The Wrong Beach: Good tune....GLAM ROCK....bit like Mica (Big Girls You Are Beautiful) deciding to rock out 7.5/10 Stop The Clocks: The Closer...I've always seen as this pyschedelic in origin and mood...beautiful song if I'm being honest...the tremolo in his voice sends shivers down my spine...the production is spot on too. Listen to this at night-time and you will be blown away!!! The jam at the end is very Beatles-esque 9.5/10 this album is obviously one crafted by a master craftsman in the guild onf songwriting....but what has amazed me is that Noel I think purposefully decided to constrain himself when writing these new tunes. There aren't that many guitar solo's...middle eights....or anything else that he'd use to lift an Oasis song from its promising beginnings to its epic finish.....and still the album rocks. It is a bit samey in places but feck it, it's bold, it's brash and has moments fit to grace any top 3 Oasis album!!
