I don't get U2 chasing a hit. It's crazy. They need to do what they do best and that's writing songs like Blackout. They're never going to be relevant again or produce another chart hit and it's infuriating that after Blackout they serve up this Coldplay esq pop produced dross. There's a decent melody in there somewhere but it's ruined by overproduction and chasing a hit.

Well, The Best Thing is dreadful. The mix is horrendous also.

If we had a choice of an album full of Ballad of Mighty Is or The Good Rebels, I'd easily take Mighty I. I don't like "electonica" or "edm" at all but TBOTMI is neither of those. Its Noel taking a slight step out of his comfort zone and freshening it up a bit. Sometimes you need a few fresh sounds rather than the same 3 chords over and over. Like Tame Impala. An album like lonerism would be perfect. There was the right mix of rock and spacey sounds in that album and it is really perfect. While Currents is good, I felt it veered one way a little too much and most of the songs after Let It Happen were fine but also in the grand scheme of their disography, forgettable. Noel finding the right mix of sounds without fully stepping over the line would be ideal. Don't go Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay, but for the love of Noel no more Good Rebels. BOTMI and TGR are both awful songs imo. But I liked TDOTL and WTSRTS. Maybe it's Noel on autopilot (TDOTL), but I like that. TGR yes, BOTMI is really great.

This whole madness needs some serious de escalation and quickly. I don't think NK are going to attack the US but the risk of miscalculation or a stray malfunctioning missile from NK hitting a country are pretty high and what if they do decide to drop a missile in the sea short of Guam for their next test? Someone in the US would have to make a very quick "launch" decision when the missile was still in the air. I think NK want to be taken seriously and their nuclear weapons are ultimately a deterrent so everyone leaves them alone and they have bargaining power I really don't think the increaisng rhetoric on both sides is helping, we need calm heads and rational decisions being made which at the moment aren't, the US state department is decimated and there's virtually no diplomats left. Also, the question is would China and Russia stay out if the US did nuke NK and why is Trump threatening to stop all trade with China? That is pure madness. This could easily be the start of a world war. What a mess, I kind of hoped I wouldn't have to live through a nuclear war in my lifetime.

I hope this album gets releases before the impending nuclear holocaust!

Be prepared for the "You're The Best Thing" single disappointment next week! I thought the version we've heard already was quite catchy though. Hopefully it's not produced to within an inch of its life!
The drum part during the verse of The Blackout is great I have to say.

Fucking hell, that clip sounds bland. Sounds like landfill indie tripe like Kasabian or Catfish. As ever with modern U2 and their albums of late, I think we're gonna have to wait until the album comes out in December to find the more interesting album cuts. They can't do singles anymore, problem is they try to write singles for half of their albums now. Give it up and stop trying to pursue the mainstream. Yep.

Exciting times... (though I really hope it doesn't sound like The Chemical Brothers, as previously described) Actually, that would be immense!

Not trolling. Genuine opinion. Unless Noel has produced an album that has much more life in it than his last two, I think As You Were will outsell his album over time. In fact, I think it's very arrogant to expect otherwise. You've got to be trolling with this, in fact why am I even "biting".

The Air studios version is much better than the studio version, much better. It's still a MOR dirge though. It's just songwriting by numbers.

Of all the tracks officially released, this is his first dud. Gave it a second listen and I was already bored to death. The smaller and more compact and punchy tunes are working better for him at the moment. Written by a team of songwriters too, it's really poor.

Lol. Song writing by numbers. It completely lacks any soul. I didn't think it was much of a song and then I found myself singing it as I walked round London. I love this song now. Its not a great but its decent. Catchy. Being brutally honest if Robbie Williams released this we'd be slating it forever.

Can't be bothered reading through all the threads on FWIW - did Liam write this one? The email I just received from the official site about FWIW has this quote from Liam: “I wanted to write an apology… Not to one person, but to everyone, because I’m no good at saying sorry.” The full quote is “I wanted to write an apology… Not to one person, but to everyone, because I’m no good at saying sorry, but I couldn't do it so Warner Brothers bought me one” Lol. Song writing by numbers. It completely lacks any soul.

We haven't had a good president since George W. Bush. Let that sink in, America. You've got the worst president ever at the moment. Scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The US is more fucked under Trump than even I thought was possible last November. Just waiting on him pressing the nuclear button now. A disgusting President.
