So did Zak Starkey turn out to be a better drummer than Whitey?
Reader, he did not.
Nothing against the other drummers in Oasis, but what a numbskull decision that was from Noel to sack Alan White. Mind you, Whitey probably got out just in time before all the mid tempo plodding dreck they kept writing. Don't think any drummer could have done anything good with that.

It’s just terrible. Definitely the worst thing he has ever done . It almost ruins Council Skies for me . It’s unbelievable that anyone in Noel’s circle would tell him it’s any good . He obviously has people around him that tell him what he wants to hear . Which makes sense considering the rubbish he put out during the WBTM and EP era. Don't be silly.

A Bell Will Ring is truly awful, Keep The Dream Alive is pretty poor, but I think its an alright album.
Personally it doesn't have the awful awful lows of the two albums either side of it.

History made once again today by Oasis…..the first act to have three albums reach 500 weeks on the UK charts. ….As of yet no-one else has even had two albums reach 500 weeks. Pretty darn impressive. They're always up there with Queen and ABBA in the legacy artists best sellers. Unlike those two, their inclusion isn't based on just a greatest hits collection - fair to say that Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory are seminal albums in the way that ABBA and Queen never had (who were, lets be honest, singles bands). Don't think the Beatles albums chart as high either. Adele perhaps is in there for modern acts, but she'll slip simply because, well, she's not that good.

He can be hit and miss but a rewarding author at the same time on repeat readings. But it is almost impossible to top The Remains of the Day. If you love that book and film, I think Living will be for you mimmi, has similar themes and just as poignant. We're going to watch Living this weekened. The Remains of The Day is Ishiguro's masterpiece and the film translated every piece of the novel beautifully by Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. I agree, one of the rare films where the film matches the novel. My favourite novel probably.

Heard someone's "I Know It's Over" cover and immediately thought what if Stipe sung this. So, built a Stipe A.I. out of pure creative ambition. This is a rough demo version done in around 2 hours of editing, so it gets dodgy a couple of times, and the inference on removing vocals from the piano instrumental had issues. World71R carlober and matt (I know a couple of you don't care for this stuff, but wanted to see your thoughts if possible). Yeah these things are getting weirdly better, very convincing. Doesn't change my negative mind on these things though! Would have loved to actually hear Stipe sing some Smiths or Morrissey songs.

Was it? I can't remember it, I should rewatch the doc, it's been ages. It could be, my memory is bad and I haven't watched it in like 10 years 😂🙃 The rumored title was bye bye my family. I think Don't Stop was first heard during a Dig Out Your Soul soundcheck in early 2009. Singapore in February that year or something, I'm fairly sure it was around the same time the soundcheck leak of Everybody's On The Run and If I Had A Gun were released. It's a song that's been around for so so long, think it was already a few years old by time the soundcheck version.

Talking about music from 93, this super early Oasis boot is amazing. So weird to hear Liam before he started channeling Lydon and stretching out his vowels. ☀️ Did they ever perform I Will Believe again?

Watched that film Living starring Bill Nighy (screenplay by Kazuo Ishiguro) on Amazon Prime this week. If you've got Prime, watch it. What a beautiful film, was very moving. I'm going to watch it tonight! Thanks matt! I'm reading Clara and The Sun again now and as I'm reading it for the second time, I understand the plot more due to my humble knowledge of the English language. The last book of him I read was A Pale View Of Hill which I wasn't very keen as I expected to be honest. Next one I would love to read is When We Were Orphans. He can be hit and miss but a rewarding author at the same time on repeat readings. But it is almost impossible to top The Remains of the Day. If you love that book and film, I think Living will be for you mimmi, has similar themes and just as poignant.

Yeah I don't get the hype about Dying of the Light. It's decent but very formulaic - seems like an algorithm generated song that mish mashes all those other kind of Noel songs together. Shocked it's leading this poll to be honest.

Dead In The Water is up there with classic Noel. The Death of You & Me a close second. Dead To The World a comfortable third, and Dying of the Light a far distant fourth.

Trying To Find A World is classic Noel.
Yeah okay, not up there with your Talk Tonights or Half The World Aways, but it's a beautiful melody with the old melancholy to it. I also like his vocals on this one, less nasally and not drowned out by sludgy guitars.

It's almost impossible to own a timeless song that's been in the public domain for a hundred years but she did just that with The Foggy Dew with The Chieftains. Best ever rendition of the song. What a voice.

Quite telling that in 14 years since this thread, literally nothing has changed on the world stage. Remember that conference in Glasgow? What a load of posturing that is, and that's all it's been.
And I see Keir Starmer, UK's next PM in waiting, has no balls and no leadership on this as with most things. Deperately wanting to follow the Tories by scrapping environmental policy and telling Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to rethink his low emission policies. At the very least, Khan has shown some fucking leadership on this. You might actually learn something in what it means to, you know, actually lead. Rant over.

I don't know how to explain it properly but you can get old in many different ways but they have all aged in the same way, if you know what I mean 😁 Think each of them have all recovered from drug addictions of all sorts. But it's the treadmill that would shave a few years off them all though! Saying that, of all acts who reach their 50s, Liam and Noel look surprisingly good!

Truthfully, I'm not sure I blame Sting for buring the Behind My Camel tape - have you heard Mother? An absolutely horrible song. I love The Police, though the reunion tours were a disappointment. Stewart is an amazing drummer. Fave song: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Really? Thought it was generally seen as a great success, there was a video of Wrapped Around Your Finger from that tour, with Stewart Copeland absolutely owning it.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66318626So so sad, what a voice and a talent she was. Bold, outspoken and never had a faint heart, all for the best. Had her fair share of tragedies but always bounced back, a terribly young age to die at 56 too. RIP.

Bloody hell, fair play to him for picking this. Reminds me it's a lovely song, absolutely ruined by horrific plodding production. Of all the renditions, it's hard to believe the group that wrote it have by far the worst performance. Dave Sardy and Noel should hand their heads in shame. There's a Noel acoustic version somewhere which sounds really nice, but yeach I feel like the album version got (although in a different way) the Stop the Clocks treatment There's a tune in there but it's buried beneath some cheesy production choices that really wanna push it into the epic final song territory instead of doing what's best for the song Fuckin Beatles obsession getting the better of them again.

The moment Noel stopped predominantly writing pop songs is when Oasis took a turn for the worse.

I don't understand these rave reviews either. The answer lies in it being reviewed by white middle age middle class people. I'm white middle age middle class, and wouldnt have rated it 5/5 Ìt's more than that, Damon has lots of friends in the industry so nothing he does can be criticized really. He's the "intellectual" musician from the britpop era. He's basically untouchable at this point, like Bowie in the past. It's more about influence and leverage than skin color or class. Just like no one will ever say a Beyonce or Jay Z or Coldplay record is shit. Too much influence from those people. The editor will just pick the right reviewer for it otherwise the record label will make the publication's life difficult after that (for exclusives, interviews... etc) People should just stop reading reviews anyway. What planet are you living on?! Coldplay albums have been getting rubbish reviews for ages (primarily because they are now). But even their best albums got reluctant praise.
