Been dipping in and out of this but yes, there's a reason why they're the only band to headline this thing so many times. Still unbeatable in that sense. Reminds me of the real Coldplay, especially with a brilliant curveball with Arabesque and interesting rendition of Violet Hill there too.

This was a disaster. Trump is a lying piece of shit and a fucking joke. Still somehow he made a better impact than Biden. Biden was a ghost, more believable as a retirement home candidate than a president. He talked smart things but his points were buried under his senile presence. Are the Democrats so fucking rotten and dumb they aren't willing to find anyone to replace him? Like matt said, it's an open goal they're purposely missing. If Trump gets elected you can only blame yourself and your own fucking corruption. Fucking disaster. I pity the people in Ukraine right now. e. Where's the fact checking from CNN?? Why are they allowing straight up lying? The greatest country in the world and this kind of shit show going on. Are they afraid to ask hard questions in the fear of losing their position as a trusted media? Why can't you properly challenge their views? They're president candidates for your own country, for fuck's sake. They should be seriously tested under pressure, not let talk whatever the fuck they want. I think they're arrogant. If they lose, there won't be any soul searching in the DNC because they'll refuse to accept responsibility for a mess they had the power to avoid. Anyone of us here would be better Democrat strategists.

have to say Joe Biden was a bit worse for wear last night, But he didn'nt lie once unlike the other fella who lied quite a bit and also didnt really answer any questions directly, the best part was when they asked him about Jan 6th and he just danced around the question and answered fuck all,,TWICE Thought you were talking about this forum's Trump fanboys!

It's incredible how little I can name the cabinet members of the government. Even struggled for a moment to remember that its Jeremy Hunt as chancellor. Beyond that..... no, I'm struggling.
It just shows how irrelevant they all are. They all just blend into, as Malcolm Tucker would say, one big ball of 'solid f**k'.

Something isn't right with Trump supporters and their behaviours and attitudes are the symptom of a nation gone wrong. A candidate who pries on the insecurities and isolation of folk (whether that be personal or financial insecurity) and indulges the ugly characteristics that derive from those insecurities. Rather than being a truly inspirational leader that makes them believe that they can be meaningful stakeholders in a society that embraces community and the symbiotic relationship between people and place. Though that insecure, individualistic 'every man for himself' mentality of society today is the long term ramifications of neoliberal Reagan and Thatcher style emphasis on individualism and 'trickle down' economics that, well, never f**** trickled down and eroded society and community.
Where is that alternative vision coming from because 'more of the same' is not cutting the mustard? The DNC must have their head up their arses and be so institutionalised to the point they are out of touch with society. This is an open goal against the worst candidate of all time and they are literally sleep walking to defeat.
Somebody put it well, it's a choice between Trump ('hell no!') and Biden ('oh no'). The one people hate vs the one people pity. A convicted felon and sleazy pervert who lies through his teeth and has lost the popular vote not once but TWICE. An open goal surely? Just a little bit of imagination, and a little bit of a vision will see to that. And yet still, the Democrats can't kill him off. How incompetent can you get?
Last night was just the tip of the iceberg of a party that has no idea. It was always leading up to this because not since 2008 have the DNC bothered to look forward and secure a fresh face. It's the same old faces, it's the constant sense of looking backwards to try and look forward and the electorate are fed up with the lack of vision and innovation that a new candidate could bring. It's the arrogance from the DNC that that is good enough, ending in apathy, and when there's apathy that's when things go wrong and you let Trump in by the back door.
Make no mistake, Trump won't be winning this, even though he'll get in the White House. If you think he 'wins' elections, then his supporters are deluded fantasists. No, he only ever gets in the White House by the back door, because the sheer stupidity and arrogance of the DNC lose it. And that's what will happen this November.

My first Radiohead album was Kid A and I was blown away by it. So when I checked the overly hyped OK Computer it felt like a step back (which is exactly what it is chronologically) and much less interesting. I'm sure it's a great album but I'm more interested in what they did from Kid A onwards. I'm in the same boat. For me I think it has something to do with the influences. OK Computer displays prog rock influences, a genre that I have absolutely no interest in. Meanwhile, Kid A digs into electronic influences that I have a lot of time for. I prefer the minimalist sound, it's a real vibe album that you can focus on or have on in the background while doing some work. I like its dark and ominous sound. OK Computer leaves me feeling nothing, like a good few of their albums thereafter. Outside of Kid A, the only other Radiohead albums I'd rescue in a housefire are The Bends and A Moon Shaped Pool. I like the straight forward rock of the former and the cinematic beauty of the latter.

Everything's not lost. Ghost Stories is their best "recent" album. It has such a great evening/nighttime vibe to it. Very calming. I thought Everyday Life was their best one since Viva La Vida, for the 'full band' tracks. Extremely flawed, half of it sounds like a Chris Martin solo record but musically it definitely felt like real Coldplay for the fully fledged songs. Church, Trouble In Town, Arabesque, Orphans, bonus track Flags too.... there's the core of a very good album. Devoid of chart baiting stunts and personnel, it strips it back to what they really are without the desire to be so commercial. Max Martin is simply not as good a songwriter as Chris Martin, and the only reason he is there is to dumb down their songs and appeal to the audience that listens to chart nonsense. I know I sound like an old man, but I'd have had this opinion back in 2008 when Max Martin was still shovelling shite into the mainstream.

It's also the first time that many in the public eye were seeing Oasis with Gem and Andy rather than Guigsy and Bonehead. They were better musicians, being more refined and technical, but it was at the expense of the brash energy of old. Was it? I mean for a handful of people maybe, but it had been 4 years and 3 tours by that point. I mean more in the sense that the Glastonbury gig was probably their biggest, most visible break for the general public since the new iteration of the band. Unless I'm missing a more publicly available gig (e.g. this went live on BBC 2 at prime time on a Friday evening) they didn't have anything in the few years before.

I was just watching this and it's not as bad as I remembered to be honest. Liam's coat is still outrageously bad though! The gig suffers from a lifelessness and lack of energy. It's like they're on autopilot. Barring the odd gig here and there, sadly all to frequent from this period until their split. Feel sorry for Liam most, he's trying his best to get with the crowd. His voice ain't great but he makes a decent point about the in ear technology disturbing him and losing that connection. The rest look like they don't care, or too insecure to interact and connect with an audience they don't know. Dare I say it, but if Liam were headlining with his current band and his choice of setlist, it would be a hell of a lot better than an Oasis reunion. It's also the first time that many in the public eye were seeing Oasis with Gem and Andy rather than Guigsy and Bonehead. They were better musicians, being more refined and technical, but it was at the expense of the brash energy of old.

I respectively disagree Noel needs to be “challenged” (disclosure: my favorite songs are DITW, DTTW, TOAN and other Noel ballads). But he does seem to be in a quandary. I can’t believe I’m saying this out loud, but I honestly think linking back up with Liam makes more sense now more than ever. What better voice for a “defiant rock album” I don't think it's a question of him needing to be challenged. If he likes what he does, that's all that counts. I think what we're saying, or at least what I'm saying, is that his music is more interesting when he is challenged and it shows what he's capable of doing. He's capable of painting grandiose painting but he resorts to paint by numbers landscapes.Yes, its all very autopilot with Noel. He can write albums like Council Skies in his sleep, sadly its just not surprising for any one at this stage.

Said to my mates after England's first game that the English media will build up Bellingham and then he will do something wrong in a crucial game and they'll hammer him ala Beckham in '98. Either that, or that dolt Foden will make a massive mistake. Meaning of course the tabloid gutter press will plaster their headlines with the black England players instead.

So now the England fans have decided their team is shite, the 'silver bullet' is now on the bench in Palmer or Watkins or Mainoo.
Like Grealish before them. Like Vardy before them. Like Barkley before them. Like Defoe before them....

Did Nigel challenge Travis? Not sure but its a worthwhile comparison looking at other 'singer-songwriter' acts. I did listen to an interview with Fran Healy where they were in despair making The Invisible Band when the whole band thought 'he thinks everything we've brought to the studio is shite'. They were forced to bring it to a standard he liked. I think it's their best album. Godrich also refused to work on McCartney songs that he didn't like - something that McCartney thought was 'cheeky' but resulted in clearly his best studio album in the last 20 years. Radiohead are studio wizards and a different breed of recording artist so we can exclude them from this discussion. So if it were Godrich producing Noel, he would have a veto on songs and be challenged purely on the song's merits. In many ways, he'd be the ideal producer for Noel. He wouldn't reinvent him or change his style significantly to upset the traditionalists, and the sonic qualities of his albums are always top notch to please audiophiles. Above all, you'd be confident he'd get the best collection of songs available to make everyone happy, and at the very least, would stop crap like The Mexican or Girl With X Ray Eyes finding its way onto an album. But it would take a brave man to point the finger at Noel and say 'that's f**** shit'. At the very least, that's the kick up the arse he needs.

For me, the more fluorescent the album's color palette, the harder a Coldplay album sucks. So I'm expecting " weekend of hookers and blow" levels of suck with Moon Music. I skim read that and thought it was the title of their new album. Shame, now that would be interesting.

That's impressive and terrifying in equal measure. Was watching Rick Beato earlier, this video is pretty scary. I'm not saying people can't enjoy it, it's going to get to the point there will be songs written by AI we'll all enjoy (whether we admit it or not). But I feel uncomfortable with it, somehow robots are manipulating us to elicit emotions from us. That's what is scary. It could be countered that many pop songs are manipulative anyhow, so what's the difference? But I also believe our favourite songwriters are such because we believe and empathise in what they're expressing. There's an undefinable sincerity to what is performed and a human connection made. AI is just another terrifying tool, like social media, that is taking us away from real, authentic human connection.

Heaven forbid that you should immensely dislike and refuse to listen to a sleazy, corrupt, aggressive, incendiary sexual abuser. You are quite obviously under the control of big media. Not at all. I vehemently dislike both options, but I can plainly see that the justice system has been politically weaponized against one of them. People want to act as if Biden has led a better, less corrupt presidency and I’m saying he hasn’t. I don’t like Trump and think he’s an immature, ego-maniac, but I’m willing to look at both sides, review the facts and be objective. I don’t see objectivity here (either pro or anti Trump) and that’s my point. Where are the substantive arguments and information to support that he’s some sort of evil monster, while the rest of politicians are heaven-sent angels? The issue is that the government never tells us the whole truth about anything and they’ve been caught perpetuating known propaganda for decades… The attempts to portray Trump as this evil, nazi-sympathizer, who has led the country to the current state of divisive deconstruction of U.S. values have only increased the his voter base. They fucked up and made him a martyr in the eyes of millions because people are starting to realize how corrupt the system has always been. Everyone has the right to support whichever candidate they want, but to act as if Trump is any worse than Biden is nonsense. Again, I live in the U.S. and I can see how much public sentiment toward institutions have dwindled. And that’s the fault of the people running the institutions. No I'm not saying he's the cause for division and unrest. But he is a symptom of a failing democracy. As with the likes of Farage and Johnson over here. People and society have to be in a pretty bad state to look at these guys and think 'yeah they're the answer'. As I say, Trump is a symptom, not the cause. The bottom line is this though - don't try to make him out to be a solution either.

And it’s exceeding obvious there are indoctrinated people on both sides in this thread; trolling, incessant posting of biased content by media PACs, he’s great/he’s satan, with almost zero real discussion or willingness to look at things from another perspective. I read 1984 again, over the past week. It’s genuinely terrifying how accurate/prophetic it is in relation to our current times. The truth is out there if you want to find it, and it damn sure ain’t coming from state and corporate media. They blind us with purposeful and planned propaganda that perpetuates hatred against our peers, while they steal our freedoms, little by little (there are endless examples). We have much more in common with one another, as humans, relying on each other to survive, than we do differences. And most of the differences are based on opinions… why should we ever have contempt for someone based on their opinions when opinions are born out of singular experiences/perspectives? If you won’t allow yourself to listen and truly hear what someone with a different perspective than you has, you exist in a world devoid of any genuine comprehension/understanding of humanity. Not to sound like Shrek, but this has layers. Contempt against Trump fanatics or other types of indoctrinated people is pointless indeed. Since you quoted me, I'm guessing this is aimed at me but you won't find me being contemptuous to someone for that. Unless you're saying that me saying it's indoctrination is contempt, in which case I would advise you to read the definition and look at what people who to this day are Trump fans do. If you don't see a correlation, I'm not the blind one. Also, you don't need the media or the opinion of anyone else to be anti-Trump... you can simply listen to what he says and look at what he does. If you want it unfiltered, watch his rallies or even pro-Republican medias or read what he says on his Truth social. That's all I need. I judge him on what he is, what he says and what he does... Heaven forbid that you should immensely dislike and refuse to listen to a sleazy, corrupt, aggressive, incendiary sexual abuser. You are quite obviously under the control of big media.

Yep, quite depressing when you think about what direction Labour have went in. Still, please don’t rob me of the pleasure of watching all these bastards leaving on the 4th of July! actually think it will be a little like 97, it'll bring a bit of optimism/relief, but the hangover/reality is gonna hit real hard Definite relief and delight at Tory misery, not sure about optimism though. Something radical has to change and nobody is excited at the prospect of Labour. I understand New Labour brought in various welfare policies that would never have happened under a Tory government (I also say it's just not true that they were 'just the same as the Tories', I would like to see middle class hipster Corbynites tell that to lower income folk who benefited from Sure Start, minimum wage increase or bursaries like myself, Blair might not have cared but Gordon Brown definitely kept it left leaning to that extent). That welfare support is commendable, if not exactly radical, but I can't even see that level of welfare support coming. This next Labour government can't simply try and work within the confines of neoliberal economics like New Labour did. It's failed and the system is broken. Society is decimated and the old 'red wall' working class communities in England have broken to pieces because of it. The sad state of these once proud places that emphasised working class solidarity is shameful for a supposed democracy. Their social fabric has been torn to shreds, the levels of deprivations being the nightmarish manifestation of neoliberal economics. Even a landslide majority for Labour will be a support base made from foundations of sand. The electorate is so volatile, probably just siding with Labour just because everyone hates the Tories, rather than supporting them. The old class based voting traditions have gone. Lower income, working class people who usually vote Labour live in ghost towns now with no meaningful jobs, public services, prospects or any way to pay for the cost of living. Worryingly, I think that stress causes anger, dissociation, unrest - but not in a revolutionary sense. Moreso where compassion and empathy is limited due to societal and ultimately personal ruin, the anger of which creates a emotionally vulnerable voter base and a vacuum for dangerous politicians like Farage to capitalise on. They will vote Labour this time, but merely to kick the Tories out rather than actual advocacy that previous generations gave. But if Labour do nothing for these places, in five years time, they could opt for something worryingly extreme and violent. Sadly I don't see where the reforms are coming with Labour. I worry they'll try to fix the system rather than bin it and start again. These 'economic paradigm shifts' go in phases, Keynesian economics lasted from the 1930s to 1979, neoliberalism has a similar lifespan and judging by those timeframes and what we're seeing now, is in its death rattle. I fear it will take something horrible and extreme to completely reset though, these radical economic reforms usually only happen when a country is completely decimated to the point that rebuilding is the only option. And I worry that we've not seen the worst of it. 1930s experienced the traumas of instability in Europe, 1970s was industrial and societal trauma and decline. What we're heading for I don't want to know. Apologies for the rant. I will happily celebrate sticking the knife into those Tory c***s on 4th July, but I just have no clue where its all going to end up.

Always intrigues me how Noel stated in the 90s the first three albums would be a 'trilogy' and from there on, things would be different.
You can hear some elements of Noel trying to take Oasis in a different direction - the music is more multitextured, less brash, more sophisticated, and there was the odd samples dropped in too (Fuckin In The Bushes, Go Let It Out).
But I don't think he had the energy in him to see it through. Who knows what it would have been like if he'd had the drive and determination he had six years earlier. Listening to Standing, it's hard not to hear a tiredness and despondency that the lyrics suggest.

My rankings. Honestly, outside of Around The Sun, I'd recommend them all. And anything out of that top 10 could be somebody's favourite, they're that good. I think the top five are unchanging. But Monster might sneak in there some days. What a band! 1. Automatic For The People2. Green3. Fables of the Reconstruction4. Murmur5. Life's Rich Pageant6. Monster 7. Reckoning 8. Out Of Time 9. Document 10. New Adventures In Hi-Fi 11. Up 12. Collapse Into Now 13. Reveal 14. Accelerate 15. Around The SunSurprised you rate Hi-Fi that low, I think it's one of their best - Stipe agrees as well. Automatic Murmur Out of Time Fables New Adventures in Hi-Fi Document Reckoning Life's Rich Pageant Green Monster Up Reveal Collapse Into Now Accelerate / Around The Sun (Don't really rate them) I think the band in general are very big fans of New Adventures. And most fans rate it really highly. I think it's a brilliant album, in my top 10 there's often little more than a fag papers separation between them. But it's just one that I simply haven't given as much attention to as the others and I feel obliged to give it some proper spins again. Anyway, here's a new interview with Rick Beato chatting to Mike Mills. A very compelling long interview, very technical and detailed. Mills talks with such integrity, no sense of hubris, ego or indulgence to the work they created. Just really humble, almost workmanlike perspective to making timeless records.

kinda related to definitely maybe (but also all of oasis) but i just went to the exhibition in manchester that Kyle Dale hosted, and im mindblown. so much rare oasis stuff in there. he even played me an unreleased tune with liam on vocals from 2005 in the studio for DBTT sessions that has never been shared online, it sounded mega. What an experience! Did you catch any lyrics? There was so many song titles floating around from that period that you might have heard one of them.

Please do! I think we'll probably get the follow up to Council Skies before long, probably next year. I'd also be happy with a return to EPs. Sorry to disappoint, but clearly not happening either. Records are usually done a year before release, and Noel said he didn't make anything good in the studio so far. For a 2025 release it would mean he suddenly had inspiration and recorded everything by the end of summer. 2026 at at earliest. Evidently getting all his ducks in a row and prepping the memo/official line for an Oasis reunion next year. Bookmark this post. "I was doing f*** all so thought why not" etc etc.
