He's certainly a one-off lol he sure is. But why the laugh? As you're on an Oasis forum I guess you understand that without Ian Brown Liam Gallagher, as we know him, simply wouldn't exist. Have you heard any of Brown's solo records? I'm certainly not comparing in terms of fame or international cultural importance, but have you heard Bob Dylan sing live at a gig? Bob has struggled for years with his voice, difference is he's been accompanied by a crack outfit of musicians. Dylan bends and twists the songs in all sorts of ways musically. It might not be to everyone's taste but he isn't boring. Ian Brown singing badly over the album backing is. For fucks sake, 40 or 50 quid for that? Christ.

"no one wants to work with someone who's spent the last 2 years destroying his own credibility and public image"
If you're referring to Brown's views on Covid vaccinations I very much doubt that musicians or crew who take a different view to his would turn down the work on ideological grounds, so that's not something I would give any credence to as a reason for this 'solo' outing. Is Richard Ashcroft finding the same thing? I guess Clapton's still got a band but I wouldn't know.
"you'd expect Ian to have even the slightest ability to sing in key"
Not if you've ever been to any of his previous live shows, solo or Roses!
That's why I said it's nothing new, he's never been able to sing, but I still don't think that's grounds for justifying it

Some people are paying/going to a gig to get a video to post on social media and are now outraged that they didn't get anything worth posting, and the people online are outraged that it's not watchable. That's a First World Problem.

Ian Brown is a one-off. The socials from his Glasgow gig tell a different story to Leeds. You don't go to an Ian Brown gig expecting Roses songs (which made it all the funnier when he did them after Squire had murdered a few live). Ian has a successful solo career and string of great albums. He's obviously making some kind of point (known only to him I guess) b ut I don't hear people complain that Kayne or Stormzy have a show that's one bloke who can't sing and a backing track... You cannot be serious with that comparison! A - They're not singers B - They actually put some effort into their live performances, not like some pissed up bloke whose popped into his local for a karaoke session.

you know, I've changed my mind. you are all correct.
Ian Brown can't sing. He never has been able to and everyone who has ever gone to see him live with the Roses or solo has always thought it was the worst thing ever and that they should have stayed at home and watched the masked singer instead.
no one has ever thought he is an artist who can do what the fuck he likes and be appreciated for doing it by creating a communal experience that they actually enjoy.
It's quite correct to say that anyone who isn't fully trained by a brit school type establishment should never even attempt to stand onstage and perform, and that only people who are technically proficient can and indeed should be enjoyed.
Even worse, Ian brown is anti the establishment view about covid and even worse worse he is male, white and old and therefore it is no surprise that he can't even get any musicians to play with him, even if he could afford to pay them.
I am really happy that my pragmatism allows me to listen to others and change my views accordingly. thank you all.

Not even Paul McCartney can sell tickets anymore. Guess he was cancelled for having committed cultural appropriation back in the 60's, and that combined with him being old, white and male is simply a death sentence in today's woke society. Does anyone know if he's even alive still, or did he die in silence in a gutter somewhere in Liverpool? Because if he did, the media wouldn't even let us know. John Lennon sure must be glad he didn't have to be a part of this.

Ian brown can think whatever he likes, I've no problem with his views, and he can make a dick of himself with a laptop if he wants (was it £50 a ticket💸?), I saw him at the Ulster hall in Belfast 2005, played dolphins were monkeys 4 fuckin times in a row, cried about "sound problems", went for 5th go, got hit up the head with a bottle an fucked off in a huff, only person that had any problem with the sound was him, band seemed happy enough, crowd happy enough, guys always been a fuckin dick

The Roses debut album was released when I was 15 and they were my heroes, Ian especially, I loved the fact they hardly ever did interviews and when they did, were really sullen, awkward and didn't give a fuck. However, Ian has made a total c*nt of himself the last couple of years, the shite he was talking about covid was embarrassing. This latest debacle where he's just singing along to a backing track and charging £50 or whatever it is, fuck me its tragic. He'll always be a legend in my eyes but I cannot defend that shite. PS I am white, male and old too BTW.

I'm extremely sensitive, but enjoy a good joke and also love snow in all its forms.
As mentioned previously, I also grew up in a family with a severely disabled brother who in later life died in our home, so my thoughts on anyone abusing or disrespecting disability of any kind are certainly not ones of support.

did you read his answer to the fella from Gene's insulting and patronising 'open letter' to Brown at the height of lockdown? It was extremely erudite, considered and well argued, far more so that the other guy's come back of just calling him a trump supporter or something. Considering that a lot of what he said is now being openly discussed in the mainstream media it's hard to agree that he made a vagina of himself, as opposed to simply holding an opinion which might or might not differ from yours.
I think it's sad that you find a view embarrassing and shite when it obviously came from a well thought about position, and that it would affect your enjoyment or appreciation of the bloke.
The Glasgow footage I've seen certainly didn't look bad either, it looked like a reasonable sized crowd enjoying themselves and showing appreciation.
An Ian Brown solo gig will never be about someone singing well, so what does it matter whether he has a backing track of a full orchestra? It's about an event based around a performer who connects with people in various ways. That's it.
I wouldn't pay 50 quid to go and see it, but then out of the literally thousands of gigs I've been to I've only paid to get into five or six, and one of them was buying tickets off a tout for a Ian Brown gig which was really good.

Aye I did read it, and aye, it was well written and he got his point over well. If I remember correctly, he said he had a relative who became very sick after receiving a vaccine for something - that doesn't make up for all the other conspiracy shite regarding covid that he was coming out with over and over again though.

He, as an artist, has freedom to make his live shows to look like whatever he wants them to look like. If there is some strong, good idea behind not having a band and gigs are great, then it's all more than fine. But he just does shit drunk karaoke show, music that I hear isn't good and gigs look like shit. It all just look lazy and shit.

People go to hear live music. To hear how the song sounds live and the improvisations. Often a song can sound much better live. In a time when musicians are struggling financially, it seems pitiful that somebody like Brown feels this is passable. Some of these musicians helped craft many of these tracks for him in first place. £50 for a ticket is a disgrace.

Honestly this is not a solo gig, it's a bad attempt at karaoke.
Everyone knows that Ian Brown is not a great singer but fucking hell.

Dudes...
I was there at Edinburgh on Tuesday evening and it was a top gig and an absolute rave of an atmosphere in the crowd.
Bit too much of twitter pile on after the first gig, but that's the sad world we live in these days eh???
Musically... if you're into Ian Brown's music, you'll know quite clearly that a high proportion of it is hip hop beats and grooves based, and having no band is a natural progression for his live set up. Man said himself the other night he was inspired by Kanye Wests live set up at Glastonbury.
The big story here for me here, is that it's the likes of twitter and its trolls and bots need shot down, not a man who wants to entertain those who want to see him.
Peace and love x
