I'm not a huge Beady Eye fan, but I really like some songs like The Morning Son, Off At The Next Exit, Four Letter Word, Soul Love, Evil Eye, ... Anyway, I have to disagree with those who criticise their album covers. As a designer I usually find album covers that aren't just a picture of the singer/band more interesting. 'Be' especially is a beautiful album cover. Beady Eye had aesthetically pleasing graphics, these look great too: (not my collection btw, just a photo from google)

Awful band. Not a single good song. Glad to put this sin against music a decade in the past. Glad Liam moved on to better things.

This might be a bit of a strange memory but flipping over the Four Letter Word vintil i'd just had delivered in the post and playing the b-side World Outside My Room on my Grandad's old record player was the first and only time i'd ever heard a song for the first time on a record. That b-side hadn't leaked anywhere beforehand and it was a really special moment looking back. should have been their HELLO to the new world CD 1.Four Letter Word 2.World Outside My Room 3.Sons Of The Stage single A.Four Letter Word B.World Outside My Room

I liked Beady Eye, they were ok. There were some mistakes as some have already said.
a) DGSP shouldΒ΄ve been much more self contained, maybe 10 songs and lots of b-sides. It was an album full of filler songs.
b) Huge marketing mistake to use the riff from a b-side and cover song as the first snippet of the bandΒ΄s sound.
I think their main problem was that they took everything wrong with the late Oasis (2005-2009) and amplified it, mostly the lazy songwriting and over indulgence in the "beatlesque" sound or "stonesey" moment (for instance, standing on the ege... > get back; beatles and stones > my generation).
Good things: they learned quickly and their second album was much better, better than Dig out your soul and more bold than DonΒ΄t believe the truth. And as some have noticed, they really did some great b-sides.

I love a lot of the album and single covers. But the first album back from Liam Gallagher needs Liam Gallagher. It's as simple as that. I was okay sacrificing nice new artwork with what we got for As You Were because its exactly what he needed to do. Beady Eye's attitude towards the first albums artwork was indicative of their whole attitude in general. Just arrogantly assuming everyone will know who they are.

If Beady Eye were to succeed then, in hindsight, what I think they needed was to cut all ties and start again with a new management/label and take the time to create the right debut album. As soon as Noel returned and their shared management realised what side their bread was buttered and ditched Beady Eye halfway through a world tour the writing was on the wall. They were rudderless and didn't have the experience in terms of how to run things to be able to turn around what proved to be a terminal decline. I think by the time they signed for Quest it was too late. They should have done it before the first album, the damage was already done. Still, the most important thing that came out of Beady Eye for Liam was meeting Debbie. She has proved to be a major stabilising influence on him. Dread to think where he might have ended up without her. I agree with you about the bands management, they should never have hung on with Oasis's old management. If they had found a new manager from the start then they would probably have had a better chance. But when they did sign to a new management they seemed no better than than Oasis's old management. But I think at that point the damage was already done. And, I too am glad that Liam met Debbie as I think she's been brilliant for Liam and I too wonder what would have happened to Liam if things were different.

There are a lot of people involved that get overlooked because of this hype, not least Liam himself. Thats not her fault though and she has certainly been a very good influence on LG in terms of his personal and family life. And that in turn has helped him professionally.

Agree with everything you've said, but even just from viewing it from afar it seems like theres a few too many holes in the PR story we were all given. For instance, she was with him in the pool pics the day after his publicised split from Nicole, yet nowhere to be seen when Paul and Bonehead were having to ship him out in the drunken mess he was in on that private jet.

In this case or any other of high profile extra marital fall out. If they were together before the affair was made public they are not going to publicise the fact, what would be the point? I doubt either entered into to it expecting it to be anything long term given the circumstances. As for the holiday, I just think that is largely hyped for the film. I doubt it was central to Liams recovery. It just made good drama as well as played into the image of being 'one of the lads'. I mean Millionaire goes on piss with brother and best mate after having love child isn't really much of a story when you break it down. They admit as much in the film when Bonehead says it was Debbie that helped Liam through the worst. It just wasnt put on the screen.

They went about this the completely wrong way.
- As mentioned, the name was pretty bad.
- Imho they released their album too soon. The world would certainly not forget about Oasis, so why the rush? Oasis toured until 2009 so you cannot expect a hype train at the end of 2010 when you release your first single. Noel handled his better by waiting an additional 8 months or so.
- Don't give the impression that you are oasis without Noel. Maybe get somebody else on the band? Make a change. Do something to not appear like the lesser version of something else.
- Make up your mind about how you want to handle Oasis songs. Playing at least some LAG penned songs would have been acceptable: Turn up the sun, songbird, I'm outta time would have been highlights for the first gigs. They are your songs, so play them. Even Noel needs Oasis songs to get his crowds going. Throw in one of the obscure Heaven Chemistry B-sides (Thank you for the good times etc) to indicate you might wanna explore the Oasis catalogue abit more. Or shock the world by playing an Oasis song that people never thought they would hear live. Finish the set with Roll it over or something.
- Playing only BE songs in the beginning was bold but ok. Playing Noel-written (and overplayed) crowd pleasers during the last tour kinda felt like throwing the towel.

Agree with most of what's said here.
Beady Eye came out when the public weren't hugely demanding new Oasis product (considering they'd only split up a year before), and it was a watered-down version of the latter half of Oasis. Oasis without Noel turning up and writing Lyla, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Falling Down etc and also not playing back catalogue live.
They also massively overindulged their 60s influences. And overestimated their popularity.
However, I think for Liam to have had the comeback he has had, he needed Beady Eye, and to go through some adversity (not necessarily the personal stuff, I mean more indifference to the music). The media sided with Noel because he gave great interviews, and from what he was saying seemed the reasonable one, with his boorish brother just ploughing on with his band not reading the room.
As we know, it wasn't until 2016 and Supersonic came out that Liam had good PR - because he'd been away for nearly 3 years, and the film gives good insight into his actual personality.
BE was promising because it had new sounds - but I'm not sure how into it Liam was? His vocals on that album were poor, almost unlistenable for me. Soul Love and Off At The Next Exit are two very good songs though, and would be highlights of his current solo stuff.
Stuff like Iz Rite and Face The Crowd...maybe not.

At this point we had a handful of goodies, Four Letter Word had dropped Christmas week, it was the massive tune we were waiting for. I remember some things about the FLW chatter, like oh man "Nothing ever lasts forever" what a jab at Noel-oh man but also it says (N)(O)thing (E)ver (L)asts FOREVER-WHAT DOES IT MEAN!! There was the yo whos the mystery guitarist?? Did they get someone? Wheres Andy?
Then its b-side World Outside My Room was a massive surprise to literally everyone, I don't think anyone could have seen that coming, such a cozy tune.
The Roller had also dropped at this point and we got a fun music video for it. I don't remember much about it myself from back then.
Two Of A Kind released as its b-side, still one of favorites and I was absolutely ecstatic when they played it when I saw them live in 2011.
One of the reasons I prefer the DGSS over BE is the same reason why most people dislike DGSS, for its old sound and wearing its influence on its sleeve, I don't recognize much of whatever they're copying, but my dad does and when I'd play this stuff he was like oh! I like that, I'm glad theres a band out there whos still rocking old school style. It was my first time following a band as they released stuff and to have that create a simple bond like that with my dad was great.

World Outside My Room is a great song but I was never really a big fan of Two Of A Kind. It's ok but I don't think that it was one of the bands best.

It was too soon after Oasis as everyone has said, but when youβre actually in it and itβs your life, you donβt think like that, you just want to do it, and carry on the life of being this adored rock star, touring the world. It was Liamβs way of blocking out the break up of Oasis in his head, by going straight out on the pull with the BE lads

Yeah, I agree with you there but sadly it wasn't a big success which they had hoped. But I think that Liam and the rest of the band probably learned from this and learned the hard way.

That is Rock N Roll am afraid. Can't win them all. I wonder if they had gone out as Liam Gallagher with that album and put Oasis songs in the set (same situation as Liam's solo career now) whether that would have been a stronger move. We'll never know and it's no disservice to Gem, Andy or Chris.

No matter how talented, beloved or famed, there comes a point where folks will get sick of seeing the same story (or kind of story) about a person over and over -- and when that happens sometimes the best thing is to hide away for a bit and come back with a brand new story. It definitely rejiggered the Liam Mythos when he finally did take a break after Beady Eye, but of course, one way or the other, timing is everything in pop culture.

At the risk of being murdered by the Noel fans on here, I'm sure I read in the past Liam was bored of waiting 3 years for Oasis to do stuff. He wanted more action. Easy for him to say when he didn't have to write 12 songs + potential 10 b-sides but there you go. Maybe girllikeabomb's taking a break post above could have been true for Beady Eye. I just think they had songs ready to go (since Heathen Chemistry Sessions at least - The Roller I believe) and wanted to see what they could achieve.
