Okay, here goes...
1. Never Before – 9/10 – Just love it. It gripped me as soon as the album came on and I knew they'd nailed it. I love these types of semi-instrumental tracks and while it sounds very Roses/Charlatans/PS, to me it's 100% DMA's. Will be incredible live. "Two chords and a whole lot of groove."
2. The Glow – 7.5/10 – It's catchy and poppy and I really like it, just don't think it's among the album's best tracks. But that's in no way meant as a slight against it – it's a great tune.
3. Silver – 10/10 – I can't really add anything to what others have already said about this song. Knew it was massive as soon as I heard it. Sensational.
4. Life Is A Game Of Changing - 8/10 – It's one I don't listen to a lot on its own but it's actually such a brilliantly crafted song, and it works brilliantly live and as part of the album.
5. Criminals – 8.5/10 – There was a lot of debate about this when it was released as a single but it's just a fantastic pop song. The chorus and outro etc are so catchy, as they all are on this record. I love it.
6. Strangers – 7.5/10 – First listen I thought this would be the filler but it's just another fantastic tune. Definite NGHFB vibes in the broodiness of it, and the imagery is great. Also has a few killer lines in it.
7. Learning Alive – 8/10 – It's a really poignant tune, my complaint is it cuts a little short but it's beautiful in its own right.
8. Hello Girlfriend – 8.5/10 – I love how heavy the guitars are in this. Only complaint is it doesn't go on longer but they've said there's no rules when it comes to playing it live.
9. Appointment – 7.5/10 – Really calms the album down a bit again but it's just a lovely, subtle track.
10. Round & Around – 9/10 – Another highlight for me. Sounds very reminiscent of their early stuff which is no surprise, given it's one of their oldest songs.
11. Cobracaine – 8/10 – Really like the way to end the album. I get the point about Tommy's vocals but I think it really works well. The lyrics - if you know what the song is about - are clear, but even if not they can mean whatever you want them to mean. And Mason's backing vocals are brilliant and brooding.
Overall, I'm just thrilled with it and the consistency these lads have shown across three albums. Consistency in quality, but then testing themselves and looking to push themselves.
Bring on the live shows - whenever they happen - and them going from strength to strength. They deserve it.

Listening to Johnny explain the meaning of that song (and also of Hello Girlfriend) was really cool. Especially as an Australian thinking back to driving down to Schoolies in a shitty mini bus it's pretty relatable as that sort of shit happens all too often. Also, Strangers needs more love from everyone. Think it is one that needs to be listened to on its own to really be focused in on and understand how good it is.

I loved this song from the off, even though there has been some debate about it.
Totally agree with Rolo saying it was very pop, but for some reason as soon as I heard it I kept thinking Be Here Now – specifically, I Hope I Think I Know.
There's that version someone did of BHN (the entire album) on a piano, and it showed just how great the pop melodies are in those tunes, underneath all of the noise.
I kind of think it's the same with Criminals. Personally I love the album version but I get why people weren't sure on it. But then hearing it like this, stripped down, it works so well.

This album is fucking brilliant. Really is Plus wan 🙋🏼♀️ I just managed to catch up with the Splendour stream. Simply sublime. Not sure how difficult it is for an Aussie band to crack the UK and it’s saturated market but I OH YOU really have done a brilliant job. While other musicians have been put on their arses throughout these shite times, the boys have grafted their balls off and given us a treat almost every week. The album is already the soundtrack to my summer.

Fuck me. They've covered Gas Panic! Really stripped back but Tommy's voice is unreal. Works brilliantly. Just been on Virgin Radio so sure it will be up on YouTube soon enough. igotflair Oa get on it!

Great album, they would have deserved a no.1.
I don't really like the cover of gp on the other hand, the idea of a stripped version is great but his voice doesn't suit the song.

This cover confirms that Tommy is a great singer but Liam is on another tier, imo.

Yeah, not really having that Gas Panic cover, feel like his voice is to clean for a tune like this, misses Liam's growl.

Hmmm.... I felt a little unsettled to hear about this, and didn’t feel comfortable about giving it a listen. It feels like finding someone else sitting in your person’s armchair haha, kinda... yeah you’re alright n all that but fuck off you’re not sitting there.
Beautiful vocals, this is unquestionable. Pleased he did it, but it’s a song for the dragon voice which has smoked too much, drunk too much and is on the edge of breaking.

I do understand the reservations about the cover. I'm glad they did it and think they nailed the stripped-down version they did of it. It sounds sinister and his voice suits it. But obviously like igotflair says, it could be a case of us all being such big fans of Oasis/the song that it doesn't quite work for some people. I'd much rather have it than not, though!

Fucking hell, I miss the days when Oasis forums weren't terrible. The cover does a sensational job of stripping everything special away from the song. Top work.

Done a cover of one of my favourite tunes by them if anyone is interested. Saw that on Facebook the other day mate, great stuff as always! Weird one is Step Up for me. It's hardly one I go to regularly but whenever it comes on I remember how much I adore it.

Think the reaction to the cover of Gas Panic from the wider Oasis fanbase (it has been very split I think - and fair play, music is all down to opinion) shows in some quarters how people have a very tunnelled view of DMA's still. Yes, when they play as a three-piece, it's often acoustic, stripped down sets. Probably because it works so well with Tommy's voice but also the new tunes do genuinely suit that stripped down approach. When they play as a six-piece, it's a totally different vibe, and unless you've seen them live in some way or form in that format, it can be hard to gauge. I saw a lot of shouts of 'just a covers band' or 'slow, boring ballads', not getting the hype etc, yesterday, and it did annoy me a bit, as I can't think of a guitar band currently knocking about that have had such little hype compared to what they actually deserve. Anyway, any publicity is good publicity really. As igotflair rightly said, they've worked their arses off over lockdown and the management has been great. 2020 was (and still hopefully will be, just in a different way) going to be such a big year for them, it would have been easy to just sit and rue their bad luck. The reason why there is now 'hype' around them is because they have slogged at it, and in a really difficult time in the last few months, and have a no.2 in Aus and no.4 in UK album to show for it - and a bloody fantastic album at that. In regards to Gas Panic I think it's a cover they've been asked to do for years and that's why it was done. I can't see them doing any other Oasis covers, and they've taken it on and done what I think is a great job for the version it is - but I do understand why people wouldn't be so keen on it.

Done a cover of one of my favourite tunes by them if anyone is interested. Had another listen properly on the speaker just now while I’m on the beach. Sandy bits and a stunning cover - life is good 🙂 (mates and the people next to us enjoyed it too) bt95 any news about October? I don’t follow all the announcements, so often miss stuff. Can’t see any gigs happening for anyone til Spring tbh.
