DMA'S announced their new album, it's called The Glow and will be released on 24th April. Both singles "Silver" and "Life Is a Game of Changing" are already available.
From the official store: "The Glow’ finds DMA’S fulfilling their world class potential with a collection of songs that are destined for arenas. From their emotive heart to their towering, anthemic hooks, the core traits that have earned the band a growing global following are all in place. But with the help of producer Stuart Price (The Killers, New Order, Madonna) DMA’S have elevated both sides of their sonic spectrum to new heights.
It’s a mission statement that the trio immediately encapsulate within the opening two tracks. A swaggering mash-up of Screamadelica-era attitude, big beat dynamics and modern alt-pop flair, ‘Never Before’ immediately sets the tone. The title track then keeps that energy firing, a rapid-rush of melodic energy, joyous optimism and a new-found confidence in Tommy O’Dell’s vocals. As suggested by the recent single ‘Silver’, DMA’S are expanding the scale of their sound. ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’ is an anthemic and euphoric mix of electronica, melodic guitars, pounding drums and O’Dell’s melancholic vocals and then ‘Criminals’ introduces the biggest contrast on the record, its punchy, groove-focused hook taking flight from its restrained verses. The Lennon-esque intro to ‘Learning Alive’ soon turns itself into something unexpected, pulling on the heart-strings and scaling up the drama with a stirring string section. And yet DMA’S save the biggest surprise for last. ‘Cobracaine’ is a celebration of everything the band can be. It’s a maximalist melting pot of sounds: an escalating wall of guitars - the foundation for a tense, almost trancelike beat with vocals filtered through harmonies and vocoders. And as it hurtles to its mesmerising conclusion, one thing is certain: this is the most fully realised of the band’s three albums to date."
Tracklisting: 1. Never Before 2. The Glow 3. Silver 4. Life Is A Game of Changing 5. Criminals 6. Strangers 7. Learning Alive 8. Hello Girlfriend 9. Appointment 10. Round & Around 11. Cobracaine

Still loving Silver so so much and the new track has Pet Shop Boys energy, in a good way. Excited for the album, Learning Alive especially. Hope it’s available on vinyl.

Seeing them at Brixton Academy in a few weeks. Sold out almost immediately too.
They sold out Castlefield Bowl in under two hours a few weeks back - quicker than Foals who are playing there this summer too and I believe they're close to selling out Alexandra Palace (all of them I'll be at).
Honestly so buzzing for them – they're such a talented group of musicians and deserve to be massive. Hopefully the album lives up to the two singles and that description!

They were absolutely outstanding on Friday. Blew me away. And they knew - you could tell - that they’re going to smash it this year. It was special to be there and can’t wait for the album.

Release pushed back to July 10. The day after they were meant to be playing Castlefield Bowl.
It's still on as it stands but can't see it lasting much longer. Hopefully I'm wrong. Will be absolutely gutted for them if it goes (and it's something to look forward to in an incredibly shit world atm, like).
They were meant to be touring in May but not every gig was their own - it was a short tour of headlining small festivals and then some gigs of their own (including at Hull arena so more big venues). That will be getting canned soon I imagine.
What a fucking shit time.

I know this thing is massively serious and transcends anything else. It's such a worrying time. But Christ, when we're all through this worst bit (hopefully) in 2-3 months, what's actually going to be going on? There's nothing happening. Everything pushed back/postponed. I'm laughing cause if not I'd cry. Obviously more important things but it's the little joys in life which make it worth living!

igotflair doesn't make up for the album push back but this will be good! The Definitely Maybe one yesterday was awesome (and MG will be next Saturday too) and the Tellin' Stories one going on right now is also ace.

^^^ Thank you bt95 I didn’t know about this. Are we expecting another release from The Glow anytime soon, I’ve seen some lyrics to Learning Alive around... No probs. No date yet for the listening party but it'll be on either Tim B's twitter or the DMA's official one when it's confirmed. I guess there would have been a plan to release another single in the coming weeks anyway to coincide with the album release - so maybe we might get something mid-to-late April. If you want a fix of DMA's related stuff though, Johnny Took's brother is in a band called Planet. Anyway, the two of them have made a new track together and that's gonna be released on the 9th April. http://instagram.com/p/B-X3T5uBiAt Plus Tommy put this out earlier too. http://instagram.com/p/B-WbRenHwId

igotflair Johnny Took has just said on an Instagram live that 'The Glow' (single) is coming out in the next week or so. We heard that one when they supported Liam in MCR, right? I clearly remember Hello Girlfriend from that night, simple lyrics but with so much substance, I love how everything stops for a beautiful middle 8. Been playing this a lot: Still playing Silver a few times a day on repeat. Yep they’ve definitely got me.

They did play The Glow at Brixton the other week and it sounded great. Obviously haven't heard it since though. And yes they also played Hello Girlfriend on Liam's tour as well as at Brixton. Obviously had heard it at Mcr Arena but it sounded a lot bigger at Brixton, was really excellent. There's a brilliant cover of it here:

^^^ bt95 Wait... I know who that is, he follows me, how small is this world! I’ve not heard any of his covers, had a listen, yeah it’s good but my favourite part of the song is the a cappella break and he didn’t go for it. Are you sure they didn’t perform The Glow in MCR? Maybe I was just a bit past my best to pay enough attention 🙃

Maybe I was just a bit past my best to pay enough attention 🙃 Ah god so strange! Yeh he does a fair few covers of theirs and Oasis ones from what I've seen. He's in a DMA's group I've just joined on Facebook, too. It is far too small! Hahaha yeh i was out of it for Liam but I remember their set. They played Silver and Hello Girlfriend from the new album. Play It Out, In The Air, Time And Money, Delete and Lay Down. 'The Glow' was debuted at University College of London on March 5th and then they played it again the day after at Brixton. From what I remember from Brixton it was a bit dancier - more akin to Life Is A Game Of Changing than Hello Girlfriend, for example. Their Brixton set was ace. They played Too Soon as the third song in which they haven't played since 2017 (ironically the first time I saw them, in Wakefield, of all places), which is an absolute banger. Feels Like 37 started the set and you could tell they knew - Tommy especially - that they had it. The gig felt a bit like how I imagine it felt for Oasis fans in that winter tour of 1994 or even those Southend/Sheffield gigs in 1995. Johnny was asked on the Instagram live why they pushed the album back and he said a big factor as well as vinyl production, marketing etc is that they wanted to promote it properly with the tour straight off the back of it. Most of their gigs were headlining smaller festivals so they have been put back and I guess the Hull/Norwich gigs they were playing in May will be gone too. Just holding out hope for Castlefield as they deserve it and it'd be a real celebration - especially with all that has happened, and their album coming out the day after (as it stands). Really glad you're into them and enjoying them! Gives me someone to bang on about them to anyway

They've just confirmed their May tour has been pushed back. No mention of Castlefield yet. Ally Pally for October still on.
They're also going to stream the entire Brixton gig. It's well worth a watch. Honestly such a special show to have been at. Here's Life Is A Game Of Changing.

I can't get my head around why they don't play the song "For Now" at their gigs? It's probably their biggest sounding tune, really weird.

I can't get my head around why they don't play the song "For Now" at their gigs? It's probably their biggest sounding tune, really weird. Yeh, I saw an interview with them and they said it's one of the first songs they wrote, and they used to play it a lot at gigs before getting a deal etc. They opened up their April-May 2018 tour with it and then moved it to the middle later in the year. Gutted they don't play it more, along with Break Me. For Now, kind of reminds me of Colombia in a way. I think it's the chord progression. They played it with a capo on 2nd live but I think the record version is in F# though and it's mainly jus the three chords over and over, with – I think – one passing chord after the chorus. Definitely got a Roses vibe but I do get Colombia from it too. Think that and Break Me are the closest they've come to that Oasis sound - not that I'm particularly arsed about them trying to replicate it, as I think they've perfected their own sound now. That being said, the Brixton set I couldn't really fault and it shows how many good songs they've got, especially with the new album coming. Obviously it's not Oasis level, but they're leaving out some really, really good songs and the sets aren't massively suffering for it imo. I've never rated The End, for example, but live it really does kick up and it was a bit of a centrepiece at Brixton.

Here's Johnny's side project with his brother from the band PLANET (also worth checking out).
Also, Johnny's partner Hayley Mary is really, really talented too. Here's her latest single, which he features in too.
