Even in a fallow period of Gallagher related activity, they still make the music mag covers. They must be the only stars that are able to shift copies of music magazines given how frequent both Noel and Liam are on front covers.

This arrived yesterday (I'm a subscriber). Very interesting interview - Parka monkeys are not going to be happy at all. Headlines:
- Noel is now an 'artiste'! - The recording in Abbey Road was with the band - he will be working on a separate LP with David Holmes in January. - He went into a studio to record an acoustic LP after Chasing Rainbows but gave up on the second day after he realised he was only doing it for other people rather than himself. He realised he wanted to finish the David Holmes stuff instead. - After Liam's tweets about Sara and his kids the re-union is never happening. Ever!
I don't have a scanner - sorry.

Thanks for this, can you clarify what you mean by recording in Abbey Road with the band? Must be info I missed out - is he recording two different albums (one more traditional with the band?).

If you check Ysee's and Jess' Instagram accounts, both posted hints of them working in Abbey Road on something they couldn't give details about. It seemed kind of obvious it was something "Noel-related". Must be this... I'd asssume it's a different project other than the David Holmes'one... Nevertheless it might happen that there is just one album mixing material from both sessions... I wouldn't think that is likely though!

Both have been in Abbey Road recording while still on duty with the Birds. 100% Noel related. No idea what will become of it all. Still years away sadly.

Noel also confirmed in his Steve Lamacq interview that he was recently in Abbey Road for a "couple of weeks" and just came back from finishing the mixes. To me that sounds pretty far down the line. Not sure all the ins and outs of recording maybe someone can translate the progress.

Well he did say that he would record another conventional album before the next Holmes one because WBTM took so long.

I haven't seen the article so I am basing this on the thread and Instagram but it is interesting to speculate about the Abbey Road sessions. The easy speculation: 1. A NGHFB single 2. A NGHFB EP 3. A NGHFB album. Outside the box speculation 1. A Ysee recording with Noel and band supporting as a friendly gesture. 2. A full blown project either single,EP, or Album where the band and Noel record under a different name where Jess and Ysee are more prominent. A full on collaboration that is a side project for Noel. Noel doing an album with female vocalists but if it is under a different name it doesn't impact NGHFB

Interview excerpt:
With our interview time nearing its end, and his point hammered home, Gallagher switches the subject to what comes next. He is, he says, starting work on a new record with David Holmes in January, while also demoing material at Abbey Road for a High Flying Birds touring-band album, on which he hopes to push its female members - Charlotte Marionneau, backing singer YSEE, [AKA Audrey Gbaguidi] and keyboardist Jessica Greenfield - to the fore. He predicts the latter LP will be finished first.

Interview excerpt:
Noel: The album (Who Built The Moon) was finished, it was coming out, but it was an interesting position to be in (the mixed reaction to Holy Mountain). There was the acoustic track, Dead In The Water, and after [Chasing Yesterday] came out someone said, "You've got to do an acoustic record." I've never done an acoustic record, so I booked a studio for two weeks, and I'm sitting there with an acoustic, the one I wrote Wonderwall on, with fans all over the world saying, "This is what you should be doing." The management are saying, "That's a great song, it makes me cry." Then I thought, I'm not doing this for me, I'm doing it for other people. I want to get back to the [David Holmes] record, I want a drum machine from the '70s to put through an amplifier; I want to play bass...
So I scrapped that acoustic session on the second day. The engineer said, "Is that it?" "Yeah." "We haven't done anything." "I know"... The only reason Dead In The Water was captured was because I didn't know it was being recorded. I won't ever re-record it, because I don't believe in it any more. David said, "You're the best f**king person in the world at doing that stuff, but you've already done it." He was right.

As always, forwards............................. At this stage, anything less is boring, I listened to Chasing Yesterday a couple of days ago and was surprised how bored I got with it. Even the production is boring - all dense sounding as if it’s recorded in a cupboard, thud thud, plod, plod. Barring the odd track nothing really interesting on it. Who Noel works with as a producer will be the gauge as to how interested I am. Still very much on board with Holmes, by far the best decision he’s made in recent years in a creative sense. After that, I hope he progresses onwards.

Interesting stuff on this last page. It seems that with Noel’s solo career it has become common place for him to begin making two records at once each go around. We saw it with his debut and AA, we saw it with Holmes and the acoustic album and now Holmes and a full fledge Birds band album. Only one will survive most likely.

Bet you he bottles it and ditches the Holmes one. Noel is incapable of a “smaller” release. He’s always gotta do his 90s mindset of huge setup, huge release, big tour. He can just do a simple acoustic album like Neil Young or even Graham Coxon. Doesn’t have to make it a world touring machine. It would be great if he polished off a 6-7 song EP with the birds band by festival time. Then maybe Holmes full LP the following spring or fall. Who am I kidding. That will never happen. He’s already 51. We are gonna blink and soon realize we listen to music made by a 60 year old!
