They were brilliant at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, but have now cancelled the Dublin show due to Alex's voice.
That is awful timing for Glasto.
Did feel a bit daft playing a 3-night run at Emirates just before that huge gig.
Really was no need to be playing Swansea+S'ton just before it.
But that's the issue now. The money is in the tours.

This band has aged so terribly poorly. And are grossly overrated in this thread. No and no.

I like Arctic Monkeys but man oh man, does the fan base have some of the highest levels of music snobbery or what? It’s worse than any other fanbase I’ve come across. The casual fans are fine, but some of the hardcore ones are just weird.
I think many of these fans think it “cool” to hate the AM album, but pile the praise on the last two albums. And I get it, everyone has different tastes etc, but it feels a lot of the time it’s just snobbery, because AM was their most successful album, and extremely popular. And let’s be honest, it’s a highly melodic, catchy album full of absolute tunes, which can’t be said for the last two albums. They might be well crafted, intellectual etc, but that’s the extent of it. Music doesn’t need to be challenging to be good.
I reckon that because AM brought a new era of fans, the OG fans got grumpy, because they felt the band was no longer theirs, but everyone’s. So when the last two albums came out, the OG fans were delighted because it drove away a lot of the casual fans, and the OG fans “retook” the band. Pure music snobbery.

Yeah, one side is destroying them right now for this performance and other side is ignoring the fact that did the same playlist for Glastonbury as for every other show because Alex laughed few times and did little mix of Star Treatment and I Wanna Be Yours and they think that gig was brilliant.

Thing is I don't really like either of their last two albums (a few standout tracks aside) but I really, really like how they play live now and how Turner has totally gone to this alter-ego.
Some of the criticism I've seen of them online is just daft.
'Too many new songs' - 16 of their 21 songs last night were at least 10 years old
'He's slowing down the songs' - quite literally he's changed the arrangement of all the songs on every tour they've ever done
Hate that part about Glasto. People who never watch gigs or listen to music have the chance to comment and spread their shite opinions around.
Can easily say you don't like the way they do it live but hold your hat up and say it's absolutely up to them how they do it.
I'd rather they have done what they've done than try and rewrite AM or their debut.

I'm not a die hard fan of the monkeys, yet i love their last two records. Maybe because i'm more a fan of the last shadow puppets and 60s or 70s Bacharach music. I find the rest of the discography, bar the debut, forgettable. Yet i find those claims ridiculous. The songs arent that different, the style is. Produced like AM, everyone would love them. I dont like AM, but mostly because of the sound. Its a forgettable record that was produced to be played for the masses with the exact sound that was needed at the time to sell. This is why it gets criticized by die hard fans. Tranquility and The Car are just Arctic Monkeys without the obvious pop hooks, that's it. Same shit. If you dont hear quality melodies in those records, maybe the problem is not the music... Its got lots and lots of melodies. Maybe you dont like the "universe" those records are asking you to get into, but that's another story. Stop trying to act like people who like those records are "elitists". They are inventive, different, it doesn't try to please the masses, its exactly what an artist in a middle of a career should try. Maybe they will go somewhere else i will hate next. So what ? There's millions of songs available for 9 dollars a month now. The Real problem is that those record should have been Last Shadow Puppets records.

I don't mind the direction they have taken. I couldn't get into Tranquility Base but enjoyed The Car.
However I wish they would stop playing most of their old stuff to be honest. It feels so weird whenever they switch between newer stuff and songs off of their debut album. It does not fit well together.
