Great new album. Love how they always to try to make something new and not just repeat the old success formula. Last album was a bit shaky but this one is spot on. Best band of their generation.

Mr Schwartz used the be one of the weaker ones for me, but it's slowly growing. I even get some Damon Albarn vibes in some parts of it.

How about that album ending though. The anti climax song. It's done on purpose.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve listened to a whole new album from start to finish several times. Love it

Actually, to me, stuff from Humbug sounds superior to everything else. That is after second listen on good headphones 😁

like this album, for me the first side of the LP is stronger than the second, maybe it'll grow on me though! got 2 AM tickets to see them in bristol next year excited to see these performed live as i'm hearing they're better that way. glad alex is doing what he likes

What is that "If you've a lesson to teach me I'm listening, ready to learn..." melody, it sounds exactly like some other song and I can't remember which song.

I really love the album now. It's quite amazing how the band keeps progressing in interesting and unexpected ways.

Didn't like it at first even though I liked Body Paint and Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am.
Liked it more on second listen - still don't love it but definitely prefer it to Tranquility Base.
Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am is catchy but Body Paint is the best thing they've done since AM. Not really keen on the more piano-driven tracks.

It's definitely a album that grows on you. When I first heard it, I got to be honest I didn't get beyond the singles but slowly it started to grow on me. Definitely some of best vocals that's Turner ever done. Probably the best produced of their albums too for me. Ballsy album to release when you plan on playing stadiums cause besides one or two tracks it doesn't feel like a stadium album.
I thought it was weird them releasing Mirrorball as a first single. Didn't feel like 1st single type of song, but it's really one of the best things the band has done and their recent performance of the song on Jools Holland is great. Body Paint was excellent on first listen and is a belter live.
Big Ideas is a fantastic song and reminds me something of Dion's album Born to Be With You from 70's. Jet Ski's and Hello You sound like mid 70's Bowie. Mr Schwartz and The Car have a tinge of 60's Scott Walker to them. Sculptures of Anything Goes is something you might hear on a Portishead album or something. It's great and be interesting to see them do that one live.
I love to see them do a small tour in the future with an Orchestra of smaller buildings and just do THB&C and The Car
I can see why the album might not be for everyone but I love that you don't know where they go next with their next album. And that's what make them one of the most exciting bands today.

Shame they'll miss out on a no'1. It's crazy though it sold 117k albums in it's first week and still didn't get number 1. A gold album, it outsold TBH&C in it's first week by nearly 40k. When you look at albums selling only 16k getting number 1's. But I don't think any band today would outsell Taylor Swift. It's finished 2nd in nearly most countries behind Swift.

Taylor is the biggest artist in the world. Every album she drops sells a million copies first week in America and it’s likely similar across all lands. She’s a force of nature.

Swift could fart into a mircophone and it would sell millions of records. But still the band selling that many albums at this point of their career is damn impressive, usually bands hit a max but the band is still popular.

I think it's quite a statement to not move the release date. It's a way to tell the world they don't care that much about sales at this point. Most would have moved it for sure. Number 1 albums are nice to have but it doesn't mean much really in the long term sake of things. Sure most of bands when Arctic Monkeys broke through had number 1 albums and most are either not around or can't get top 20 these days. The band have nothing left to prove in terms of commercial success, they've had the big selling albums already (by the way, AM is still making the rounds in the album charts and their other albums usually make a appearance in the charts when a new album is released). And even at number 2 they've sold a ton more records then nearly most number 1 albums this year. probably their most Critically acclaimed album to date. Sold out gigs. I think they do just fine.

BBC2 9.30pm tonight. Jools Holland Special, dedicated entirely to Arctic Monkeys. Interested to see what they play, Mirrorball/Body Paint nailed on, Big Ideas? hopefully something new, Perfect Sense would be nice.

Bit of a let down in all honesty, Mirrorball was good but had already seen that as it was released in advance, Body Paint we've heard numerous live versions of already (fallon version being the best imo) but can't really blame them playing that one. And then The Car as posted above (which for me was the highlight).
But then for some reason they play OPP, Crying Lightning, Arabella and 505 which all just seemed a bit random to me.
Considering it was a special show, first time in 15 years dedicated to a single act I found it very unimpressive. And I say that as a big fan, can only imagine what someone checking them out for the first time would have thought.
