Great album. AM don't get enough credit on this forum for what they are and what they do. Great band and absolutely beautiful album. Why don't we love them back 😭😭😭

Is an album about going to the disco but that sounds like lounge music that interesting to catch up with the mainstream? Let's see

Re-listened again and I've got to say maybe I prefer it over the previous one It's a weird listen for an indie-pop-rock act because it purposefully missed big hooks and it's one of those records where you have to get immersed into the vibes and music but at the same time you've got Alex's lyrics at the front I'd say it could've gone with a couple less tracks and some longer outros instead, cause its 37 minutes feel like they're more Big Ideas, Sculptures and The Car are ny faves, good use of strings throughout Don't really get the latest single, Hello You and Jet Skis

A talent like Matt Helders's is wasted in this current shape of the Arctic Monkeys. But I guess you could say that about everyone except Alex Turner.

Shame about the strings on I Ain't Quite as well, instead of the guitar licks from the live version, I'd got so used to them from listening to the live one for over a month, so now the album cut seems lacking without them. Shame because I'd grown to like the song, even though the lyrics are a bit nonsensical. But those missing guitar bits are/were my favourite parts of the song.

A talent like Matt Helders's is wasted in this current shape of the Arctic Monkeys. But I guess you could say that about everyone except Alex Turner. That is what I am always thinking about but trying not to talk about it because it is not cool thing to say because then there will always be someone who will say that I am not understanding their new style and that they are not kids anymore". But that is the fact and his drumming was like in top 3 best things about AM, and now that is gone. There is that argument that Matt is cool with it and that is fine, I support them as long as they are happy. They created that band and they can whatever the fuck they want. If you ask me, they are not that old. I mean they are not old at all and they don't seem very happy so I think that someone has to sing to them ,,Get a grip on yourself it don't cost much". Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino was slower but there was strong idea behind it and it was slow but experimental and even psychedelic and stuff. The Car is just miserable and sad and boring. Which doesn't mean it is not good album and I will give it a few more listens but I am not excited about it at all. There is nothing wrong in having fun. And in my world, you really need be briliant like Pink Floyd or Radiohead so I can enjoy listening you whining 😂 This was exciting:

That was a big letdown after a four year wait. Boring and plods along from one song to the next without any direction.

The album is growing on me. You've just got to get into the headspace to not expect hooks. I still think there's some pretty dull and plodding songs. My favourites so far would be Body Paint and the last song.

This is a special album.
If you disagree, you need to play it more.

Better than TBH&C, but I didn't (and still don't) like it, so I'm luke-warm to The Car. "Perfect Sense" is very beautiful, though. But it screams for an outro! Same with "I Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am". Those two, "Body Paint" and There'd Better Be A Mirrorball" are the ones I keep coming back for. But this is not Arctic Monkeys for me. But bands move on I guess, and that's ok. I'm still going to see them live next year.

Well i wasn't a fan of that band before TBH&C, only liking the debut and a few tracks of the next ones... But i'm a fan of The Last Shadow Puppets.
Again, with this one, it feels Alex Turner turned TLSP into the AM. Why ? he doesnt want to work with Miles Kane anymore ? MK last record is also very TLSP.
This record is again very complex and needs a lot of listens. First few ones it will be "WTF is that", then it clicks and it's fantastic. Very deep record, the last one was sci-fi, this one is 10 James Bond themes in the early 70s.
I really love this kind of music, and although i think TBH&C was much more adventurous and ambitious, The Car sounds like it could stand the test of time. But it's not an easy ride. We'll see.

Miles brings fan at least. It seems that rest of the Monkeys are afraid to say anything to Alex. And Alex always seems more happy in TLSP.
I understand Clapton writing Tears In Heaven, but I don't understand reasons why are Arctic Monkeys are making this music for funerals.
And as always, when something is depressing and boring it always sounds more serious and critics are afraid to say anything bad about it. It is art man, you don't understand it.
🙄
Every songwriter knows that is much harder to write happy, fast song than slow, sad song.
I am not music critic and I don't have to objective. I just don't like the sound of the record and that is it.

Is it sad music ? To me it's not. It can be melancholic, but it's not sad. those kind of records rely as much on melody as they do on atmosphere. A bit like the last Albarn record. It's somewhere between ambiant, instrumental and pop with some Costello and Bacharach thrown in, that's probably why people are so divided. It doesn't belong to anything. That said, i can totally get why some earlier fans dont like it. It's just so different than what they used to release. I guess Alex didn't want to go solo... I dont feel that's it's "smart" music though. It's just a different genre. Smart music doesn't exists, although dumb music exists I suppose Alex is now at a point in his career where he can write and release whatever he wants. It's healthy for an artist. Maybe the next phase of that band will be something we all hate...

There's nothing the level of Star Treatment, tranquility base hotel + casino (the song), Four out of five or the ultracheese on it though (yet after 5-ish listens).
Those four song are something else.

Those four song are something else. I do not believe “The Car” was a standout single to promote. It’s probably “Hello You” or “Body Paint” but nothing immediate as Four Out of Five. I respect the brave aspect of dropping Mirrorball to announce the album but that is no single. It’s just an album track.

Really hope they change their sound up this time around. It’s been 5 years since their last album and I hope it’s a bit more upbeat than AM This post hasn’t aged well. They downshifted several gears following “AM”.

Yeah there is no obvious single, but I get the Mirrorball choice. It’s an ambitious track. The most ambitious one.
It’s also an ambitious record too in a sense that despite being booed by a lot of fans they keep on doing what they want (or what alex wants) They could just go through the motions and take the money.
