He’s definitely changed as an artist and that’s his right but I’m not into lounge acts, so kind of a bummer for me… To each their own though!

It is not very good, nothing to with their style. I fucking love TBH&C but imo, this is just not very good song.

...You won’t be hearing another “AM” this year. That's great news. I'm looking forward to another Tranquility Base style album.

"There's still a trace of body paint, on your legs and on your arms and on your face" When i first read the lyrics without hearing the song i wondered how that could possible work as the chorus, but after just a few (dozen) listens its catchy as hell Also can't wait to hear the studio version of "Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am", really grown on me recently that one. Gearing up to be another great album, 21st Oct can't come soon enough.

That is better. I need some cover with someone who can sing to find how good this song actually is.

I don’t think the “There’s still a trace of body paint…” hook is anywhere near good enough. Consequently, the second half of the song just doesn’t work at all. All the tension that is supposed to be there as a result of breaking up the rhythm isn’t, and so there’s no sense of resolution to the refrain; it just sits there limply, signifying nothing.
I think it’s a poorly written song. And I’m quite surprised about that.

I was listening to Body Paint yesterday before sleep and today I woke up with There’d Better Be a Mirrorball in my head and I am today completely in love with that song for the first time 🤣 Maybe next single will make me to fall in love with Body Paint.

Just Preordered Japanese OBI edition. Maybe the two best songs I heard from them.

Body Paint is definitely b side material. Yeah, he doesn't want to write pop songs anymore and they changed and all that...it doesn't mean that good song don't need strong structure among many other things.

Love the new song and the music videos they're releasing this album cycle.
TBH&C did nothing for me except for two songs, but this hits in a different way.

Body Paint is an improvement, especially after watching it live. Not a patch on their pre-Tranquility works, but better, I really like the piano in that song, and the lyrics are a bit less nonsensical.
Still not a fan of Mirrorball though. But I will give the album a thorough listen

It sounds like debut song from some indie band where all members are 17 years old. It is ok but you hope that they will develop their songwriting skills as they get older.

Body Paint is okay. I far preferred the singles for TBHC. These just sound dull!

Listened to the last album and the singles from this one again, had a pleasant listening experience, and cannot remember much about any song other than the catchiness of Four Stars Out of Five. Feels like a great vibe that isn't being given the exploration and songwriting it deserves. I get that it's not trying to be a conventional "song-structure" thing, but I don't know, when it does delve a little closer to that, I feel like it works a lot better. This is a very enjoyable piece of music:

It sounds like debut song from some indie band where all members are 17 years old. Given the age of the members when they recorded their debut(and best album), this is actually the highest praise you could give them.

I am still waiting to hear an album and believe in them but that is the feeling that I get.
It sounds like something even pre Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.
It sounds like indie pop that guys in their teenage years or early 20s are making.
I just don't hear that mature sound that everyone are talking about. Which doesn't mean that it has to be a bad thing, maybe it will be an album with great vibes.
But if are talking about maturing and songs complexity, and that is what almost everyone are praising talking about these songs, I don't here it.
Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino was that, to me first singles are sounding more like Lana Del Ray, Alexandra Savior, Submarine soundtrack...than Leonard Cohen for example.
Which again is no problem but many people are making maturity as an argument when you mention that songs are just not good enough.
And arty indie pop is young man's game, if they can pull it off, great. But...

They did a small live set a couple days ago at Studio Brussel. The sound quality was really good, studio quality but live.
Not sure the new song itself has gripped me quite yet, I'm sure it will though. BIG IDEAS, the band was so excited.

Also just stumbled across this, which is somehow over 12 years old and I'd never seen it before. Not sure how that is even possible but glad i did, some might say this is peak Arctic Monkeys right here.

It sounds like debut song from some indie band where all members are 17 years old. It is ok but you hope that they will develop their songwriting skills as they get older. Actually it sounds the complete opposite to that. It sounds like a songwriter that crafted a strong technique over 15 years of career and then started to deconstruct it. The same way as Picasso mastered painting before developing cubism (not comparing Alex Turner's abilities to Picasso, but you get my point).
