Arctic Monkeys are a funny ol’ band for me.
I’ve followed them since the first album days, and although I liked the first two, it was Humbug and Suck It And See that really stuck with me. I always respected them for sticking to their passions and changing their style.
That being said, the last album personally wasn’t for me, and this song sounds very much in the same vein. People are absolutely entitled to their opinions, but for me I find it very hard to distinguish between the tracks on the last album, it felt like one big long song split into 11 forgettable tracks. Again, this is just my opinion.
What I do find fascinating is how angry and indifferent the die hard Arctic Monkeys fans get when people don’t like their newer songs. It comes across as such snobbery. You are more than welcome to enjoy the new stuff, but don’t blame others for not blindly enjoying just anything that comes out from the band.
I’m all for bands exploring and progressing, but for me there’s only so much of Alex warbling over repetitive background music that I can take, I just don’t enjoy it, for me it’s not memorable, and it’s not wrong to think like that. I don’t need choruses or guitar solos to enjoy a song, in fact most of the songs I listen to these days don’t have these traits, but it at least has to be interesting. I’ll happily patiently wait for the next album and see where it goes then. But why get so upset over others opinions?

It's stupid to argue, they created very characteristic sound for every album. If you don't feel music, that's it, you don't, there is no space to argue.
I would 99% hate new song and last album when I was younger. Now I love it more than their early stuff.
You get completely different feelings and satisfaction from TBH&C than from WPSIATWIN.
It's like sex, sex in your teenage years is like different sport than sex in your 30s.
To me, TLSP, TBH&C and There’d Better Be A Mirrorball>first four albums.
I will leave AM out of this 😁

Incredible, there really aren't many bands that are as good at evolving as Arctic Monkeys. His voice sounds amazing, to me it's like a combo of TBHC and TLSP.
Also I can't claim to have come up with this but someone on Reddit is claiming it's about their change in style which if that's true is brilliant. Completely changed my outlook on the song and even if the theory isn't true I'm believing it.

I'm a big fan of Tranquility but Mirror ball does nothing for me. Rather disappointed in it.

Still holding out some hope for a curveball or 2 on the album though, maybe some faster paced rock here and there to spice things up. Not sure i like what i've heard of the 2nd track so far though, but will reserve full judgement until i heard the studio version on that one.

Steve Lamacq said Mirrorball isn't the song that's most indicative of the sound of the rest of the album. As for the theory, yeah I read it yesterday on reddit and it makes lot of sense. Made me appreciate the song a lot more.

I'm a big fan of Tranquility but Mirror ball does nothing for me. Rather disappointed in it. I too really enjoy that album, especially the title track. I was expecting a more stream lined single this go around. Wasn’t expecting Alex’s speak/sing vocals. Cool track but to me it definitely isn’t a sure fire single choice. Outside the diehards I don’t see it moving the needle.

People are praising Alex's singing but I don't think that he is capable to sing songs like this and bring them to another level. It is old school song for those old school real powerful voices. Alex is good but he is still just indie rock singer. Imagine Sam Cooke singing: Doooon't geeet emoootionaaal.

I love Mirrorball, the quote that it sounds like a 'more down to earth Tranquillity Base' is spot on. Quite subtle and romantic, I do love the restraint of their recent music. It's very cinematic and the strings are great too.

Just came across this on youtube, thought it was something offical that i'd totally missed but seems its just something someone has put together. Decent though not heard live versions of a few a these tracks before.

I feel exactly the same way. If there’s not a hook, it’s not a tune to me.

Trying not to listen to leaks but caved and listened to Bodypaint, think it'll be one of my favourites on the album. Haven't listened to Mr Schwartz yet.

I liked the new single, didn’t love it. Haven’t really listened to it in 3 weeks. Body Paint is a much stronger candidate for a promotional song from the new LP which is definitely gonna be more TBHC than say AM. Which I’m fine with.

AM continuing their low gear status since 2018. Sorry rock n rollers. You won’t be hearing another “AM” this year.
