WTF men, how does he do it? I just sat with an acoustic and got it in 5 minutes. How can he get so many great songs with those same 4-5 chords? He makes it seem so easy!!!

It's a nice enough tune, pretty standard Noel Gallagher acoustic stuff. I've no idea why it's getting the adoration that it is though. I even saw some clown on here saying it's better than Talk Tonight and Half the World Away. Makes me wonder what planet some people here live on. Hey mate, I am a clown who thinks it's as good or even better than Talk Tonight and Half the World Away. Any problem with that ? Love from Krypton

A studio version sounds great, but I do fear its going to be destroyed. The Dying of the Light is a great song, but the emotion fell apart in the studio amongst the over-production. If a studio version happens, it shouldn't be any more produced than Talk Tonight.

I do love the divisiness that the album brings. Some people love Dead In the Water, while on the other hand it bores me to tears That divisiveness is why I think this album's going to have a long, long shelf life. People are gonna come round to how brilliant it is, over time. I'm not too in love with the first half, but everything after the interlude I regard as Noel's best solo work, and some of his best overall.

I'm not too in love with the first half, but everything after the interlude I regard as Noel's best solo work, and some of his best overall. Agreed that the closing kick is what makes the record. If Love is the Law/The Man Who Built the Moon/Interlude 2/Dead in the Water is a great stretch, right up there with any uninterrupted 4 songs on a Noel-related album since Morning Glory. Got me thinking....right now, I'd rank them: 1) Don't Go Away/Be Here Now/All Around the World/It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) 2) If Love is the Law/The Man Who Built the Moon/Interlude 2/Dead in the Water 3) If I Had a Gun/The Death of You and Me/Record Machine/What a Life 4) Bag It up/The Turning/Waiting for the Rapture/The Shock of the Lightning 5) While the Song Remains the Same/The Mexican/You Know We Can't Go Back/Ballad of the Mighty I 6) Hung in a Bad Place/Stop Crying Your Heart Out/Songbird/Little by Little 7) The Importance of Being Idle/The Meaning of Soul/Guess God Thinks I'm Abel/Part of the Queue 8) Fuckin' in the Bushes/Go Let It Out/Who Feels Love?/Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is Easiest: Heathen Chemistry/Dig out Your Soul--rest of albums are mediocre or dogshit. Hard, in a good way: BHN (hard to leave DYKWIM/MBM out) Hard in a bad way: SOTSOG and DBTT-opposite of DOYS and HC-the manure is spread liberally throughout these albums. Hardest: Chasing Yesterday--I could have easily chosen 4 different four song stretches that could have been comparable in quality. No love for DM? Columbia->C&A? X

Dead in the Water is very much up there with Sad Song, Half the World Away, Talk Tonight and has the same raw feeling as those tunes.
DITW, is fucking biblical and we are lucky someone was recording this. Makes you wonder how many other songs Noel has squandered by doing as a soundcheck only for them to be forgotten because no one was recording.

I never want to listen to Dead in the Water. I've only listened to it about 4 or 5 times.
Am I in the minority?

Anyone know who the guy on the recording is at the start who says to Noel "You did it with more spirit that time" (Presumably referencing the Dying of the Light performance that proceeded Dead in the Water)? I thought Noel took it pretty well considering he's basically saying "Your first take was lifeless".

Sorry to hear that. Hope you're coping as well as you can. It's an eerie song I think, I struggle to listen to it sometimes so I can only imagine what it must be like.

Sending you warm hug and wishing you and your family all the best. I've been there myself 2 years ago too. Chasing Yesterday came out just after my dearest mum passed away. I can't tell how many times I listened to this album and especially The Dying Of The Light every night back then. Don't force yourself, take your time and cherish the loving memories of your dearest mum.

Best of luck mate and take care. Noel's music does have that uncanny ability to let the light back into the soul at dark times.

There seem to be two types of fans
Fans who Love Who Built the Moon (proper) and Love Dead in the Water. Then there are those who hate Who Built the Moon but love Dead in the Water
I feel like the oddball. I love Who BUilt the Moon but Dead in the Water does almost nothing for me. It's very boring and I don't think it's one of his best 'Noel+Guitar' songs.

I personally don't mind it, but I don't love it either. It's as if I'm listening to a completely different song!

I've just ordered the Holy Mountain 12" vinyl just to get this song for my collection. Still absolutely blown away by it.

My only problem with this songs is that its a bonus track. I wish it was the last track on the album. I know it is completely different to the 'feel' of WBTM but for me it works. It's shit if you buy music on vinyl.

All other formats have Dead In The Water as the last track.
