If you buy into Noel’s story. I personally think they’d rehearsed it before. Noel’s been known to tweak, combine and enhance his stories for stream lined effect. well the line at the start to the effect of 'so we have time to do it again' was very telling. like they had done one pass- unrecorded- then decided to roll tape. that makes more sense to me tbh. Exactly. I thought that’s what he was saying too. Wasn’t sure. Beleive you me. That was not Mike Rowe’s first time playing piano on that tune.

So is this a bonus track to some versions of the record or included on every version of it (except for vinyl)? 'Cause even the "standard" version on the official site says it's included.

Sounds like a shitty coldplay song. I like noel the rock star, not noel the geography teacher. You can say whatever you want about the rest of the album but to me 'Dead in the Water' sounds like 100% pure and unfiltered Noel Gallagher from start to finish. I can't genuinely understand where you hear Coldplay in this one. Unless you're taking the piss.

Clearly has some sort of an axe to grind with Noel.

First of all you're not banned. Second, if you were banned, you couldnt have had make this post. Do you log in by your mobile device using wifi? Because someone else had a similar issue and contacted us a while ago. I have had the "you are banned from this forum" message quite a few times. Thought that I may have overstepped the line with my abuse of Beady’s Here Now, but refreshing my browser cache always fixes it so it doesn't deter me. X Definitely something up with proboards. Have gotten it myself a few times today and had to refresh to get rid of it.

Beautiful. One of Noel's best songs since going solo. Did a cover of it if anyone's interested. Nice one. Chords? Thank you. I was just playing Cadd9, G, Em, D.

Beautiful. One of Noel's best songs since going solo. Did a cover of it if anyone's interested. I'd seriously take this version over the original. Prefer your vocal control/more subdued vocal. The song sounds much better the way you do it, i think it serves the melodies much better. One of my gripes with Noel's vocals is that his dynamics are all over the place, especially on live acoustic songs. Usually I like dynamic singers but Noel can get a bit too piercing for me at times. He's like the singing version of Al Pacino, it's either a whisper or very loud and not much in between. He was never always that way, if you go back to unplugged, his vocals weren't that way. He might be a better singer now, but i don't think it necessarily means he sounds better. Some people might like Noel singing that way, the emotion, but it gets too shrill for me. Anyway, good job, enjoyed it more than i've enjoyed the album version. Thanks very much man. Really appreciate the feedback.

Love this songs. Its pure 90s "talk tonight" Noel. I kinda hate what Noel represents now, dont like much of his recent music, but this thing is wonderful and he should have done the whole album in this style, not some fuckin u2 shit.

I don't think he improvised everything on the spot. I might be ruining the song for everyone here, but I'm pretty sure Mike Rowe mentioned on the StageLeft podcast that he added keyboards to the recording while on the road.
i don't this so. he may have added a few bars to retouch but he was in the studio that day playing Dying of the Light and Noel specifically mentions him jumping into the tune I think Noel's asks "do we have time to do it once more" in relation to Dying of the light and then just decides to play Dead in the Water. I think Mike is improvising. They are basic chords which Mike would have no problem following and the setup that day had Mike and Noel facing one another. Plus, isn't it Mike at the end saying "is that new?" It's certainly not the engineer who had an Irish accent. I think it's Mike. The only fly in the ointment with Noel's story for me is how perfectly he recalls the lyrics. If he'd only written it two days before and decided to play it impromptu then he does well remembering the words so flawlessly.

In fact, I don’t think you are, you’re probably just someone with an infatuation with Liam and that’s about it. This song is Noel’s soul exposed like the best Oasis songs, whether they’re ‘rocked up’ or acoustic it is a formula that underlies his classic sound. Failure to notice it is an epic failure on behalf of a so called Oasis ‘fan’.

Is this still a bonus song or de facto part of the album though? I've noticed for example in Mexican iTunes it is not listed as a bonus song or part of an special edition, is part of the standard album

I went to the record shop today and it is indeed included on the standard edition for €13. A "special edition" had no extra track, just a booklet and a more sturdy package going for €17. WTF? The fool I am baught the special edition of course.

Omg I'm obsessed with this song. This is what If I had a gun should have been. The atmosphere is breathtaking. Reminds me of being a kid, melting into the couch with my headphones blaring, totally checked out from the world

there's a lot of filler caused by restricting himself to only writing in the studio. THIS. I really wish he had stuck to this genre. DITW is amazing, it touches my soul so deeply it made me cry tonight while I was hearing through my headphones. Noel at his best, back in the game he's familiar with.

Nice traditional Noel song, there's always room for one of these on each album. A bit better than Dying of the Light and a billion times better than If I Had A Gun, shame they couldnt agree to use this kind of material to back up the better songs on the album as there's a lot of filler caused by restricting himself to only writing in the studio. There's filler on all NGHFB and Oasis albums.
