I think this song will be deserving of its own thread...so I'm starting one now.

I'm getting the impression this will be something along similar lines to Sitting Here in Silence on my Own, which I always felt was a very personal song for Noel.

Oh geez it better be miles and miles better than that song. I really like that song, definitely the best B side from DBTT. Shame it was a bit too short and felt a tad unfinished. I think DITW will be much better, but I can imagine it to be along similar lines, particularly now we've heard how it was recorded almost by accident - a snapshot moment in time.

i feel somehow it will be in the vein of The Dying of the Light or one of those unreleased acoustic songs floating around at the time.

Around the 15 minute mark, they discuss it.

Capo on second or third fret, Em, Cadd9 and a G... yeah, I can already picture it in my mind It will be good, maybe a bit "Noel on autopilot" but I can't complain since for the first time we're getting something different on the regular album.

Like Stop the Clocks, the hype looms larger than anything the song could ever be. I absolutely loved Stop the Clocks, but there are a lot of fans whose reactions were along the lines of "wait, that's IT?"

Stop The Clocks was super hyped up by Noel starting in 2002 when he first mentioned it. We all salivated over the Zanzibar bar gig bootleg (fuck you franklomax). We also all assumed it would be on DBTT. Until today we knew very very little about Dead On The Water. It would take years to reach the heights of STC or RM. Both disappointing to say the least.

If Record Machine was on DOYS with Liam on vocals and a kind of All Around The World style to it then it'd be 100x the song that we got in the end. Stop The Clocks being called the best song hes ever done and then being a tame La's rip off was very disappointing. Was also obvious that he wouldnt just sit on a song of such quality when he was releasing songs like High Horse Lady.

I think the production is what 'ruined' those two tunes - on the album versions. The demo versions of both - the ones that are on YouTube and I believe from 2002/2003, are so much better purely because they aren't masked by awful production. Plus, as Noel has said, STC is in the wrong key on the album version. I think it's definitely a case as well that those songs would have suited the DOYS era a lot more - as in fairness they were meant to. Record Machine would certainly have filled out DOYS nicely, especially with a Liam vocal - as that was clearly written with his vocal strengths in mind. STC I think wouldn't have suited Liam's power, and Noel vocally does do it justice, but the album version that we ended up getting just doesn't match up to the demo.

I like Record Machine very much the way it is! Just not a fan of Sardy's production on it (and I'm not a Sardy hater). Think the demo version is miles better.

Then again, this is the same guy that put Acquiesce,Let's All Make Believe and Masterplan as b-sides. Y'know, I've never minded High Horse Lady. It is what it is. A filler track. But DOYS is an album that really flows for me. STC is a great song but wasn't ever done justice imo in the final recorded versions. The solo at the end is a superb bit of work on both the demo and final recording though.

Stop The Clocks is just meh. To me isn't a production issue, its just that I don't feel the song at all. The ending is just noise. And that 'Saaaaaahuuunddddd..saaaahuuuuunddd' sound terrible. Im sure that Dead In The Water will be a classic Noel song. Acoustic, voice and piano. No drums at all. Probably the same chords as WTSRTS or The Dying Of The Light or If I Had A Gun,but definitely the one I will hear first when the record gets leaked.

Stop The Clocks was Noel's attempt at writing Looking Glass by The La's without the ability to do so. I don't mean that as a knock on Noel's writing, it's just that Looking Glass seems to live in a musical world of it's own, it is otherworldly and there's no point in trying to do something similar.

I think this song has all the reasons to be good. To my ears Noel was in quite a good form in terms of songwriting around CY. Riverman , Ballad, While The Song Remains, Right Stuff, all are easily in top of his solo stuff. Can't wait until he drops his next record with all the songs Holmes told him not to do Not that i'm not excited about Who Built The Moon, it's just i think he's still pretty good at writing those songs that just come to him like he says, with the tv on, with no sound Why not release them, then ?

Well i had zero expectation about this song, and it seems dumb to place it on a very "out there" record. We'll see, but if it is that good, then i would be a shame not to have a proper studio recording.
Noel hyped it too much already though.

Every time STC comes up in this forum I feel like an alien. I ADORE that song. It's everything I wanted it to be. My only regret is that it wasn't released by Oasis.
