people calling it experimental new direction but it's ye old g# d# c# with more distortion so... dont know what to expect. Chord progression does not equal song style. It's completely different from just about anything he has done. This. Noel isn't making up chords. And honestly, take Radiohead. Most of their songs actually rely on fairly simple chords.

I gave it 5 because the first 30 seconds of the song is one of the worst things Noel has ever done (IMO) but after that it's getting quite catchy and I start liking it.
For me the intro is one of the most important things in songs and if I don't like it's not a good thing. I just don't like the way Noel delivers his vocals in the first verse and it's a shame because other people seem to enjoy it. Not for me, though...
Not wanna make this Liam vs. Noel thing but I was actually waiting for Noel's album much more than As You Were but after hearing Holy Mountain I gotta say I enjoy most of the songs from Liam's new album over this. The Right Stuff still remains my favourite post-Oasis song, however.

Rated it a 5. I really want to like it but just don't. Not a fan of Noel's vocals on it, just find it pretty annoying on the whole. Can see why a few like it due to its energy because it does have that in abundance. Looking forward to hearing the other songs as I liked the previews of the 3 songs on the trailer a lot more than this.

Okay ...
20 or so listens later I'm starting to like it. I haven't lost my mind like some of you, but I'm seeing its appeal. For those of you still struggling, pretend you're an adult in 1963 and you're hearing She Loves You for the first time. It has that same annoying, almost creepy over-exuberance, and if you were in your twenties or thirties then you probably would have had that same "the fuck is this shit?" reaction ... I would have to be honest.
I'm just very interested to hear how in blue fuck this is going to fit with the stuff that was in the trailer.

Probably a stupid question but anyway, why do people always feel the need to defend something they like or pretend they like? Surely this is utterly pointless? What does one get out of it? You like it, be happy with that fact, or is it that you're trying to convince yourself that you like it because you really wanted to?

Why do people always feel the need to repeat themselves if they hate something? Surely this is utterly pointless. What does one get out of it? You hate it, get over it. Or are you trying to convince yourself that you hate it because you really wanted to?

And why some people who do not like something feels the need to post it like 10 times each, basically every time someone says he likes it ? Is it maybe that they are so childish as to see record releases as if they were a football match and only care about "their team" winning?

Or are you trying to convince yourself that you hate it because you really wanted to? But I never said I hated the song and I don't, it's catchy enough. I never 'want' to hate a song, especially a song by Noel or Liam Gallagher as I'm an OASIS fan and have been for about 20 years. I want as much great music from both of them as possible.

I'm commenting from the fence. I like the song but I get the feeling some people don't like the song as much as they wanted and they're pissed off but convince themselves to like it as much to give it a 10/10 score. This is just the vibe I'm getting from reading peoples comments and replies. I just find it a bit sad.

Song has grown on me. I'd give it a 6 now, from a 3. It looks really fun live.

This song isn't a masterpice for sure, it just a good little sunny song. I'm sure the even better songs are ahead.

I can see where Noel was coming from with this but I just feel it fails in what it were trying to achieve. All he's had since the split is "Noel is not coming out of his comfort zone" and, to be fair, he was going to do that with AA but that fell apart.
So now, Noel has tried to head in that direction but, my problem with this song is, it feels like its trying too hard to be different and it somehow ends up sounding like something nowadays U2 would sing (which isn't a very good comparrision.) I fear for the rest of the album if this is the lead off single.
Sure when I first heard it, I was like WTF but now I've listened a few times, it's ok but it's still very poor in comparrision to even his solo stuff (leaving Oasis to one-side)

I expect to find plenty to like when I hear the full song, but has anyone addressed the obvious yet with how similar it is to Beautiful Day?

You like it, be happy with that fact, or is it that you're trying to convince yourself that you like it because you really wanted to? Your post in an inconvenient truth. It's the same stigma with songs that is famously not liked here - I enjoy Sunday Morning Call whereas the majority of the forum considers it a pile of MOR trash (if anyone can't stand MOR music it's me). I consider myself to be open to different styles of music, but if there's something I don't like / care for, as in as much as I listen to it, it isn't enjoyable, then I'm going to say that. Because people don't like a song that's unconventional doesn't mean their preference is narrow. We are on a forum and share opinions about music, that criticism can be really strong, as long as we aren't attacking others about it and comparing the songs to terrorist groups (that one is from a banned member though, still).

See, there's a lot of people here saying "meh, don't really like it, not my cup of tea, 5/10" and that's totally fine. But when people start saying things like "this is the worst shit Noel has ever done" or "it doesn't even have a melody", that's not stating an opinion, that's just idiotic. I don't think saying "this is objectively Noel's best solo song" makes sense either; I think it's among the best but taste is subjective. It's simply ridiculous when people start forgetting that on a music forum.
