We all know Noel. Extend those extracts to 5 minutes long, then you’ll get the songs. No hope for tricky moves.
When I hear him « singing » beautiful dream, beautiful world... it hurts my ears (and my heart). He seems to forget writing songs.
I’m deep into electronic music. I love Thom Yorke’s solo stuff. He always writes songs. The tunes are there. I’m glad Noel is trying to experiment but I need melodies. And when I listen to Fort Knox, it just sounds like an average Primal Scream song.
I really want to be surprised. I want it so much. But that video doesn’t make me feel particularly confident...

Haha. That's what I was hoping DOYS would have vaguely sounded like when it was announced. Good stuff. Although the vocals were not what i expected, that's gonna take some getting used to for sure. I could make out Beautiful World and She Taught Me To Fly, what was the first song?
Ahh god damnit. As You Were, this and The Last Jedi before the year is out.

Y'know, I listened to Chasing Yesterday for the first time in a while all the way through yesterday. People saying he 'didn't believe in it' are talking crap. I'm sorry. He put it out there as his second album. It's an excellent one. Maybe not as good as his first, but it's still a fantastic effort. Yes, perhaps the last of its kind in terms of where he wants to go now, and probably released six months too late, but it's nonsense that he doesn't rate it or didn't believe it. That album cemented NG's place as a festival headliner and kept the momentum from his first album despite a three-and-a-half-year break. And it's that album that has given him the safety net of being able to take his music in a different direction. Agreed 100%. It's still a great album to listen all the way through. Some nice music on Chasing Yesterday. And then you have Where the City meets the Sky with some great remixes. |
