Got bored this morning.... Below is a table showing 3 things mostly: 1) How I rank the tracks from each album cycle. 2) How I rank each track against the other two albums. 3) Total points achieved. | Heathen Chemistry
| | Don't Believe The Truth
| | Dig Out Your Soul
| 3 3 1 3 2 1 3 2 3 3 1 1 | Stop Crying Your Heart Out The Hindu Times Little By Little Songbird Born on a Different Cloud Better Man She Is Love Force Of Nature (Probably) All In The Mind The Cage Hung In A Bad Place A Quick Peep
| 2 1 2 1 3 2 1 1 1 2 2 2 | Part Of The Queue The Importance of Being Idle Lyla Let There Be Love Lord Don't Slow Me Down Turn Up The Sun Guess God Thinks I'm Abel Mucky fingers The Meaning of Soul Love Like A Bomb A Bell Will Ring Keep The Dream Alive
| 1 2 3 2 1 3 2 3 2 1 3 3 | The Turning Falling Down The Shock Of The Lightning Bag It up The Boy With The Blues Waiting For The Rapture I'm Outta Time (Get Of Your) High Horse Lady Aint Got Nothin soldier On To Be Where There's Life The Nature of Reality
| 26

Take away... Looking at this, it is pretty clear to me that Don't Believe The Truth is certainly NOT the worst Oasis album. For me anyway. After about 5 minutes, I think I've worked out what the table means.... So is it each album is sorted with the best track at the top of the pile, and the worst at the bottom? Then, the numbers next to each track is a comparison with the equally ranked track from the other two albums [So, The Turning > POTQ > SCYHO on the top row , TIOBI > Falling Down > THT on the second row, etc..?], showing which album has the 'worst best track' and the 'best worst track'? Hey... I have some ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs I need translated... wanna give it a go? (your analysis of the above chart is spot on btw)

With that said, imagine an album of: 1. Turn Up the Sun 2. Bag it Up 3. The Turning 4. The Shock of the Lightning The Importance of Being Idle 5. The Importance of Being Idle Part of the Queue 6. Eyeball Tickler The Shock of the Lightning 7. I'm Outta Time I'm Outta Time 8. Lyla Falling Down 9. Part of the Queue To Be Where There's Life 10. Falling Down Boy With the Blues 11. Boy With the BluesOf dear lord no. You can't mix these two albums, they're completely different. That wouldn't sound right. That is true. I had that thought after I posted and was doing something else. I think the tracklisting I posted is about as close as you can come, but you still have too many straightforward rock songs (and some very similar ones as well like Lyla and TSOTL), and even those songs are still very different in their nature and atmosphere. The DBTT tracks that work best with the DOYS tracks seem to be TUTS, Idle, and POTQ (the latter which is somewhat of a stretch but could work). I edited the tracklisting to kind of resemble that, but they still do work better as two standalone records; as opposed to HC and SOTSOG, which are easier to mix into one album.

Not enough Pass Me Down the Wine in this thread. Would have loved it on the album.
Dare I also say... The Quiet Ones could have been brilliant if complete....
The Harrison-esque solo and Liam at the end are great. The song needed a lot of work. But there are small hints of brilliance in there. Id rather have an album with 12 Quiet Ones than 12 Eyeball Ticklers tbh.
Won't Let You Down would have been a lot better if Liam didn't sound like Eric Cartman.

I like Pass Me Down the Wine, I think it's the best b-side from the DBTT era, agree it should have been on the album.

I remember a foul forum member from some years back (2010ish, can't remember his name) was adamant in his belief that Pass Me Down The Wine would rise from an obscure b-side to become a classic ubiquitous song for Oasis within five years. That's how much he thought of that song, and also how deluded he was.

I would have added that I gave another spin to ABWR, but I didn't want to bring up Beady's Mighty Eye's blood pressure.

I'll echo the sentiments of most here. The highs are highs, but the lows are lows.
The flow of the album is great.
The thought of the album without Lyla and TIOBI is scary though. Especially if they were replaced by Those Swollen Hand Blues and a no solo Stop the Clocks (the solo by the NGHFB dude redeemed that song).

I really like Mucky Fingers, good lyrics and nice harmonica work, never got the hate, maybe because it's a very unusual Oasis song.

I prefer the Velvet Underground version. Savage! You probably didn't even know who they were until people compared Mucky Fingers to VU when DBTT came out.

Loved it when it came out but I do attend to agree with you. There is just not enough Noel written Liam sung songs. It has the worst offering from Liam by a long shot, TUTS is good but the rest of Andy and Gem's songs are way below standard and should not be on an Oasis album. That is really the whole problem with 00's Oasis. Oasis for me should be Noel writing songs for Liam to sing and maybe singing 1-2 himself and then 1-2 Liam written songs.

I think the way you look at an album can depend on when you hear it.
When this album came out, I always remember watching the little preview documentary that came with it and thinking how good the clips of all the songs sounded compared to the previous two albums. Couple that with the tour they did in support of this album and it was a good time to be an Oasis fan.
I'm sure if you listen to it for the first time years later it doesn't hold the same appeal.
It's certainly not their worst album for me.

This is personally my least favorite Oasis album as well. I agree with the others that Idle is the only real standout track in the bunch...all the others are just bland.
The main reason this album doesn’t stand up well to me is because it’s the one that really started the trend of “everyone in the group gets 2-3 songs on the album” trend, which I hate. As others have said, Oasis to me is Liam Gallagher singing Noel Gallagher written songs, and the fact that there were only TWO of those is appalling.
And like a lot of Dave Sardy produced things, the demo version of Let There Be Love is much better than the album version, which to me is unlistenable.

DBTT has as many bad songs on it as HC did. One is claimed to be their great comeback while the other is viewed as toilet paper despite huge sales, mega hit singles, incident free touring. Boggles the mind. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.................
