"Fifteen Minutes" was played a few minutes ago on BBC Radio 6. Crazy guitars from Andy! The main riff... that's the sound of a Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar vibrato arm which gets pushed down with the picking hand while strumming chords. Basically the same technique used by Kevin Shields of MBV... just without all those layers of distortion! Probably some kind of strange tuning as well... it doesn't sound like standard tuning to me. listen: clyp.it/0pmaf1ad?token=82721aa0631f75fb018eb1c90a6d8395

I quite like Clouds of Saint Marie. Gonna pick the new album this weekend in my local record shop. Looking forward to seeing them next February.

Listening to the album right now and enjoying a lot.
R.I.D.E. and Kill Switch are visceral tunes, great stuff.

I've listened to the whole album a few times. In short: it's really good!
There are no bad songs: a few of them are far from being exceptional but there are no duds.
It's very varied in sound: some of it sounds like Sonic Youth (Fifteen Minutes), some of it sounds 100% Ride (Clouds of Saint Marie), some of it sets a post-rockish mood (Eternal Recurrence) - and there's even a gorgeous, airy ballad dipped in hazy reverb (Shadows Behind the Sun). Overall, This Is Not a Safe Place is more guitar-heavy and less electronic than Weather Diaries, but it retains the modern touches of its predecessor. It definitely sounds like a record made in 2019, that's for sure. And it's quintessentially RIDE.
As of now, I'd rank the tracks in four tiers:
The Great / Future RIDE Classics Jump Jet Future Love Shadows Behind the Sun
The Very Good End Game In This Room Eternal Recurrence
The Good Fifteen Minutes Clouds of Saint Marie Repetition
The Alright R.I.D.E. Dial Up Kill Switch

By the way... durk was right: Jump Jet is massive YES! i was trying like hell to back channel (message) you a clean version of 15 Minutes last night after you had heard on BBC but i couldn't send. R.I.D.E. is a grower. Didn't like at first few listens but now i love. Good lead off to album and great drum song.

Just finished my first listen of the album (and I hadn’t listen to any of the songs previously released). I know time and repeated plays are keys factors to jugde an album, but I’m pretty excited at the moment so...
This is gonna be the album of the year for me without a doubt, I can’t remember the last time I had goosebumps 5 or 6 times listening to an album for the first time. It’s amazing how confident the band sounds, and how they seem to be trying so many diferent things for good. First highlights for me have been Future Love, Fifteen Minutes and Jump Set, but I agree there’s no bad song in here.
I know it’s soon to tell but it may very well become the best Oasis-related release since 2009.

I like it! I didn't know the Ride. Andy writing seems much better than when he was with the BE.
(some songs would be perfect for Liam, though)

I haven't seen the credits yet, but I'm pretty sure that Shadows Behind the Sun was written by Mark Gardener. It's his style. Also, it shares some similarities with Magdalen Sky, a gorgeous acoustic track from his 2005 solo record.

Listened to the album in full for the first time as I drove around the area today (a music experience everyone should have) and I have some mixed feelings. Gratefully, the pros outweight the cons so I'll dive into the negative: The first half of the album is lackluster aside from Future Love. The instrumental intro track (R.I.D.E), Repetition, and Kill Switch are very disposable tunes that seemed like clumped up album fillers rather than scattered throughout the LP. When you compare the beginning of Weather Diaries which has Lannoy Point, one of the best tracks of 2017, it's easy to feel let down about what's next. But out of sheer brilliance, the album recovers immediately right before the second half. Clouds of St. Marie has elegance in its simplicity, harking back to classic Ride sounds and giving the listener a dreamy palette cleanser after the mediocre preceding tracks. Eternal Recurrence is an incredibly ethereal long track, and sounds like the sequel to Weather Diaries (the title track) on the previous album. Fifteen Minutes is a fun little track that could've been a Going Blank Again outtake. Jump Jet's relentless groove and atomspheric production is the perfect club dance song (it blows This Is The Place out of the water ). I immediately knew Dial Up was an Andy tune based on the voice and the lyrics (that could be a good and bad thing ), the lyrics and melody is average but a wonderful atompshere as usual. End Game is good, but nothing more than filler yet then again much better than the select tracks of the first half. Shadows Behind The Sun is a Weather Diaries leftover, and is a solid ballad of Mark's, drenched with reverb and guitar delay while being another track that sounds ripped from the Going Blank Again sessions. That leads to me to the big catch of the year as far as I'm concerned. In This Room is the song of the year, I love everything about it and hearing it for the first time in the car was such a fun time as I couldn't see the runtime of the track. When that dark, expansive outro begins I thought that was the end, but it immediately built up into a final send off and still went on and on! I believe it ended at around 8 minutes and 40 seconds. The dirty ambient sound of it, the lyrics, the dark melody, just everything about it sums up why Ride's reunion has been a resounding artisitic success. Final rankings: (10) In This Room (9) Eternal Recurrence (9) Jump Jet (9) Clouds Of St. Marie (8) Shadows Behind The Sun (7) Future Love (7) Fifteen Minutes (7) Dial Up (6) End Game (5) R.I.D.E (4) Repetition (4) Kill SwitchWhile the math average score after adding up the totals is giving me a 7/10, I'm going to override it and give a personal score of 8/10. The three bad apples of the first half aren't enough to bring down this album which is still stellar overall. Currently, I still give the edge to Weather Diaries though.

This album is amazing! It's not possible that they could make something better than classics like Nowhere and GBA (same as Gallaghers with DM and WTSMG), but TINASP is really good!
It's really difficult to pick a favourite song, but Shadows Behind The Sun, wow, amazing ballad. I see you guys dont like R.I.D.E and Kill Switch, I love these two songs though.
My least favourite one is Repetition, I still like it though, but the rest of the material is really strong

I quite like Repetition, even if it's definitely among the weaker songs. Kill Switch is meh, and Dial Up... still can't get into it. Classic Andy filler in my book, partially saved by a brilliant production. I really like End Game though.
I agree that the beginning is a bit of a letdown... it's missing a Lannoy Point right there at track 1! And I'm not sure about Eternal Recurrence's placement in the record.

Thanks to the forum: I didn't know Ride and... this album is a mind-blowing.
Are the others album as good as this one? I like the alternation of slow and more rock song.
In this room... what a tune!

Well... Nowhere and Going Blank Again are two of some of the best records in the 90s. Weather Diaries can be argued as the best comeback record this decade alongside Slowdive.

As glider said, Nowhere and Going Blank Again - the first two Ride albums - are a must listen! Nowhere has the classic Ride shoegaze sound, while Going Blank Again is probably more similar to This Is Not a Safe Place in terms of pace and sound. If you've never heard Leave Them All Behind, the opening track of Going Blank Again... you're in for a treat!
