JackI read a Nick interview that came out around the time of the other two reissues in which he said the band had one or two unreleased tracks recorded along with others (presumably Catching the Butterfly, Rolling People, and Come On) at Olympic studios in early '97. I'll retrieve it later. I assume those two tracks have a chance of making the cut or being relegated to a Japanese bonus track.

I'm pretty sure that one of those UH outtakes is called All Ways Are Maybes, which was first mentioned here. Can't remember where I heard that it's from the UH era but I'm 67% sure that it is. Also, didn't Brian Cannon say that Snakeskin wasn't really a proper song? Maybe that's why it was left off the ASIH reissue. EDIT: Here is where a Verve forum moderator describes Snakeskin as "'very bizarre', about 45 seconds long cut with Richard's voice from some interview or other and Sobbo leaving an answer machine message." EDIT 2: Here is where All Ways Are Maybes is (implicitly) mentioned as a contender for the UH reissue (go to page 7). And now we've got Nick McCabe praising it along with Jazz Summers saying that it could have been a single! Let's try not to overhype the song though, it might become the next Stop the Clocks!

Yeah, that's the name of the song I was thinking of. Also, there's only 5 copies of 'Snakeskin', so presumably they weren't able to retrieve it, or it was just an unworthy tune.

mystoryisgoryThat musicradar article was indeed the one I'm referring to. There's definitely a chance we will be hearing AWAM as well as another song. I never looked into Snakeskin as much but it's still something I want to hear!

For CD3 I condensed it to represent more Verve tracks rather than the Ashcroft acoustic demos. Untitled is potentially the 2nd unreleased track recorded the same day as 'All Ways Are Maybes' (which has been included), Catching The Butterfly potentially has a rough mix from that day as well. Country Song will be the Northern Soul era demo, as while it isn't exactly demoed in this era, it was omitted from the ANS reissue. The only track that appeared on Alone With Everybody is C'mon People which was originally a full band demo minus McCabe. I enjoy the demo and suggest it should have a place on CD3. Monte Carlo was indeed properly mixed and retailed with the Verve single collection in 2004 but as far as I'm concerned it's just as much a '96 era Verve tune and part of the UH timeline. I also added the music videos for the DVD/Blu-Ray whatnot. CD3 may seem underwhelming as most of it is still a Verve minus Nick affair but hopefully we will get two new never before heard jams/tracks when he rejoined.

The radio sessions tracks on the two reissues are just incredible. Nick McCabe... what a fucking wizard! Love all the live sessions from 1993 and the Radio 1 sessions in 1995. The Radio 1 live version of Life's An Ocean is my favorite rendition of that song aside from Nick's 'Life Is Not A Rehearsal' remix.

It's ridiculous how Nick has basically been outcast from mainstream music. Imagine what he could do for Noels solo albums for example, or Gorillaz, BRMC etc. The Verve should have never split up, period. Imagine the amount of amazing music they could have created together in the last ten years.

I read an interview where Nick said he wasn't the biggest fan of ASIH around the time UH came out, something about growing up and making more mature sounds, so there's a chance the follow up would've been more of the acoustic balladry with hints of psychedelic soundscapes thanks to him. Nevertheless they would've dominated the 2000s.

One of my all time favorite Verve songs so it naturally blends well into a acoustic mix. Nothing beats the album version though! That reverse quadraverb and echo! Bliss.

Well, this is rather frustrating. The reissue that I was looking forward to most and hoping would include All Ways Are Maybes and the complete set of Urban Hymns demos contains neither nor anything we haven't heard before. Very disappointing. Perhaps Richard vetoed the inclusion of the Urban Hymns demos because they include superior versions of his solo work?

I hate that the 2CD version has the live gig instead of the b-sides, meaning you have to pay a shitload more to get those 10 songs. I really like how Oasis management handled that with Chasing the Sun - all the b-sides on the moderately priced 2CD version feels like less of a cash grab.

So the Urban reissue is out. Does anyone actually care? Nothing really in there we don't already have. The previous ones were much much better.
